    Abstract
Energy innovation is a key requirement to limit global warming and tackle climate change in the years to come. A better understanding of the public R&D mechanism is likely to improve allocation of resources for energy innovation. Thus, the present paper evaluates the impacts of public R&D and knowledge spillovers on the development of renewable energy sources. To achieve this goal, knowledge flow has been modeled as a function of public R&D expenditures, cumulative knowledge stocks and knowledge spillovers. To show the application of the model, the Nordic countries as one of the pioneers in renewable technologies have been chosen. Results show the cumulative knowledge stock will increase to...

Developing a model for integrating decisions in technology roadmapping by fuzzy PROMETHEE

    , Article Journal of Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems ; Volume 26, Issue 2 , 2014 , Pages 625-645 ; ISSN: 10641246 Ghazinoory, S ; Daneshmand Mehr, M ; Arasti, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Roadmapping, a tool of strategic planning, visualize where and how an organization will be in the future. Visualization of strategic programs assists people in the organization to understand the strategy which is a key for implementing strategy successfully. A generic roadmap is included of three main layers such as; market, product and technology. Decision making in each layer are done separately because of the nature of each layer. Therefore, decisions in roadmapping can be done with different tools. Whiles, decisions in each layer of the roadmap cannot be done without considering the upper or lower layer decisions. In this study we propose Fuzzy PROMETHEE method for integrating decisions...

A qualitative investigation of career orientations of a sample of Iranian software engineers

    Abstract
This study investigates different types of career orientation of a sample of Iranian software engineers and antecedents of these orientations. A qualitative study was conducted in seven Iranian small to large sized companies, where forty-nine software engineers were interviewed. Using the thematic analysis technique, technical, managerial, entrepreneurial, project based, and hybrid orientations were identified. For some orientations, several sub-orientations were also identified. In addition, the results propose some antecedents of career orientation, mainly based on engineer needs, competencies and values, which may be moderated by some external factors, including organizational and...

Evolutionary learning methodology: A case study of R&D strategy development

    , Article Technological Forecasting and Social Change ; Volume 80, Issue 5 , 2013 , Pages 956-976 ; 00401625 (ISSN) Hooshangi, S ; Arasti, M. R ; Hounshell, D. A ; Sahebzamani, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This article concerns the notion of methodology in strategic management of R&D/technology. Though development of new tools and methods has received much attention during the recent decades, attention to understanding methodologies has remained disproportionally low. In this study we distinguish two methodologies that are used in strategic management of R&D/technology: planning methodology and evolutionary learning methodology. We mainly focus on defining and describing the origins, nature, and characteristics of the latter. We propose a framework for methodology selection by investigating context, content, and process factors. Using this framework, we provide supportive evidence for...

Technology planning system for the Iranian petroleum industry: lessons learned from sanctions

    , Article Technological Forecasting and Social Change ; Volume 122 , 2017 , Pages 170-178 ; 00401625 (ISSN) Hoshdar, F ; Ghazinoory, S ; Arasti, M ; Fassihi, S. F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Iran's petroleum industry is facing challenges including maturity of hydrocarbon fields, growing population of the nation that demands additional revenues from petroleum exports, and international economic sanctions that have limited access to technology sources. Restrictions from international technology providers have led managers of the industry enterprises to try to develop their needed technologies inside the country. The Ministry of Petroleum has supervised this and as a result, a technology planning systems has been developed and implemented since 2009. In this paper, an overview of the Iranian petroleum industry is provided from a technology planning perspective. The focus has been...

    Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to propose a framework for developing business intelligence systems (BIS). Design/methodology/approach: Following a qualitative research method, a comprehensive framework at organizational and individual level, as well as team level, was developed. Findings: The findings revealed that team-level influential factors play a more significant role in BIS development success. The results also indicate that BIS development relies on suppliers, customers and their relationships, whereas the supplier side has a more significant impact on determining successful development. Drawing on these findings, embedded knowledge, knowledge management process capability...
