Investigating optical properties of one-dimensional photonic crystals containing semiconductor quantum wells

    , Article International Journal of Optics ; Volume 2017 , 2017 ; 16879384 (ISSN) Mokhtarnejad, M ; Asgari, M ; Sabatyan, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This study examined MQWs made of InGaAs/GaAs, InAlAs/InP, and InGaAs/InP in terms of their band structure and reflectivity. We also demonstrated that the reflectivity of MQWs under normal incident was at maximum, while both using a strong pump and changing incident angle reduced it. Reflectivity of the structure for a weak probe pulse depends on polarization, intensity of the pump pulse, and delay between the probe pulse and the pump pulse. So this system can be used as an ultrafast all-optical switch which is inspected by the transfer matrix method. After studying the band structure of the one-dimensional photonic crystal, the optical stark effect (OSE) was considered on it. Due to the OSE...

    , Article AIAA Journal ; Volume 58, Issue 8 , August , 2020 , Pages 3577-3592 Mokhtari, M ; Asgari, M ; Haddadpour, H ; Sharif University of Technology
American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc  2020
    Abstract
Damping characteristics of three-layered sandwich cylindrical shells with the focus on mode switching phenomenon are investigated in the present study. All layers of the sandwich cylinder are formulated based on the first-order shear deformation theory. Considering the von Karman strain displacement relations, the nonlinear equations of motion are derived through Hamilton’s principle. By separating the displacement components into previbration and vibration states and substituting in the obtained nonlinear equations of motion, the previbration equilibrium equations and vibration equations of motion are obtained. The acquired equations are solved by applying the generalized differential...

    , Article Fluid Phase Equilibria ; Volume 519 , 2020 Yousefi Seyf, J ; Asgari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
The recently reported UNIversal QUAsiChemical Segment Activity coefficient (UNIQUAC-SAC) model [developed by Haghtalab and Yousefi Seyf Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 2015, 54, 8611] provides a practical thermodynamic framework to be used in VLE, LLE, and SLE calculations. The UNIQUAC-SAC model has the advantage of being independent of area (q) and volume (r) structural parameters used in the combinatorial part. While the UNIFAC or UNIFAC-DMD could not apply to the 47% (44 of 94) of the studied molecules because of the undefined groups. Here, the numbers of solvents with identified segment numbers were extended from 82 to 130 with a slight refinement to the previous values. The model parameters...

    Abstract
One of the engineers concern in designing bridges and structures under moving load is the uniformity of stress distribution. In this paper the analysis of a variable cross-section beam subjected to a moving concentrated force and mass is investigated. Finite element method with cubic Hermitian interpolation functions is used to model the structure based on Euler-Bernoulli beam and Wilson-⊖ direct integration method is implemented to solve time dependent equations. Effects of cross-section area variation, boundary conditions, and moving mass inertia on the deflection, natural frequencies and longitudinal stresses of beam are investigated. Results indicates using a beam of parabolically...

    , Article Composite Structures ; Volume 255 , 2021 ; 02638223 (ISSN) Omidi Soroor, A ; Asgari, M ; Haddadpour, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
The free linear vibration of an adaptive sandwich beam consisting of a frequency and field-dependent magnetorheological fluid core and an axially functionally graded constraining layer is investigated. The Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories are utilized for defining the longitudinal and lateral deformation of the sandwich beam. The Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to derive the frequency-dependent eigenvalue problem through the kinetic and strain energy expressions of the sandwich beam. In order to deal with the frequency dependency of the core, the approached complex eigenmodes method is implemented. The validity of the formulation and solution method is confirmed through comparison...

    Abstract
In This paper, a simple single-dimension Space Vector Modulation (SVM) technique is introduced to implement on three-phase thirteen-level Modified Packed U-Cell (MPUC) inverter for photo-voltaic system in which many DC sources are avail-able. The three-phase thirteen-level converter con-sists of three single-phase seven-level MPUCs that each phase has six switches and two isolated DC sources. One major advantage of proposed method is to produce an output voltage with nearly constant amplitude in desired range in case of input DC voltage fluctuations, which is common in renewable sources like Photovoltaic Systems (PV). On the other hand, the conventional Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)...

    Abstract
Online social networks play a major role in modern societies, and they have shaped the way social relationships evolve. Link prediction in social networks has many potential applications such as recommending new items to users, friendship suggestion and discovering spurious connections. Many real social networks evolve the connections in multiple layers (e.g. multiple social networking platforms). In this article, we study the link prediction problem in multiplex networks. As an example, we consider a multiplex network of Twitter (as a microblogging service) and Foursquare (as a location-based social network). We consider social networks of the same users in these two platforms and develop a...

    Abstract
Background: A few clinical trials have examined the effect of treatment interventions on postural control in patients with chronic low back pain, all of which have exclusively evaluated postural stability using traditional linear measures of postural sway. However, postural control improvement cannot be determined by exclusively relying on linear measurements, because these parameters provide no information on underlying motor control mechanisms. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effect of using lumbosacral orthoses (LSO) together with routine physical therapy, compared to routine physical therapy alone on postural control, using nonlinear analysis techniques. Methods: Forty-four...
