, Article Computers and Industrial Engineering, Elsevier ; Volume 50, Issue 4, August 2006, Pages 358–366 Eshghi, K. (Kourosh) ; Kazemi, Morteza ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, a new algorithm for solving the shortest loop design problem is presented. The shortest loop design problem is to find the shortest loop for an automated guided vehicle covering at least one edge of each department of a block layout. In this paper, first it is shown that this problem can be represented as a graph model. The properties of the presented model enable us to design a meta-heuristic based on ant colony system algorithm for solving the shortest loop design problem. Computational results show the efficiency of our algorithm in compare to the other techniques

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faghihi, Farshid (Author) ; Haji, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Based on the latest statistical figures, more than 50 billion Rials worth of medical equipment exists in Iran’s medical centers. In spite of this, Breakdown maintenance is used in all hospitals, which means that the equipment is utilized as long as it is not out of order and only in such a situation, i.e. a breakdown, the necessary repair operation is conducted on the equipment. In fact, no maintenance is carried out to prevent a breakdown, while the “prevention from breakdown” concept has long been introduced in the majority of industries in many countries including Iran and its positive impacts are undisputable. This thesis aims at proposing a solution for the implementation of a “planned...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faghihi, Ehsan (Author) ; Banai, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Modern communication systems, while demanding high power efficiency, suffer from the inherent nonlinearty effects. Such a problem becomes more critical in LEO satellites, in which there are fundamental power limitations. Considering that the main source of nonlinear effects are power amplifiers, one of the most common methods to improve signal quality in a transmitter, meanwhile maintaining power efficiency, is to utilize linearization techniques for power amplifiers. This project consists of two parts. The first is to design and fabricate a power amplifier for the desired frequency (2.4 GHz) and power requirements (3 W). The other is design and fabrication of a linearizer and matching it to...

    Abstract
Properties of melt processed polyamide 66 (PA66)/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite were first characterized experimentally. The experimental results exhibited the formation of crystalline layer around the nanotubes and a considerable enhancement in mechanical properties by incorporation of multiwalled carbon nanotube up to 1 wt%. Mechanical properties were analyzed in terms of structural parameters using micromechanical models proposed in this study. It was suggested that the mechanical properties were greatly dominated by crystalline layer and nanotube length. It was also deduced that the melt mixing process caused a significant nanotube breakage restricting further enhancement of...

    Abstract
The present work focused on the characterization of mechanical properties of novolac phenolic resin (PF) filled with two types of clays, including modified and unmodified ones, and multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT). It was found that the solution mixing method is able to disperse the nanoparticles within the PF resin appropriately. It was also shown that the unmodified clay (Closite Na+) has the highest influence on the mechanical properties possibly due to the good level of dispersion as well as the good interfacial interaction. Theoretical analysis based on the rubber elasticity theory showed that the nanoparticles influence the evolution of crosslinking density and network structure

    Abstract
Effects of molecular weight and structure of polyamide 6 (PA6) on morphology and properties of PA6/MWCNT prepared by melt mixing were investigated. Microscopic analysis showed fine dispersion of MWCNT within low viscosity PA6s due to domination of melt infiltration into MWCNT agglomerate at low viscosity matrices with linear structure. Rheological data indicated good interfacial interaction with no percolation of MWCNT up to 2 wt% loading. DSC thermograms showed nucleating role of MWCNT on crystallization of PA6s with marginal effect on crystallinity. Experimental data supported with micromechanical model showed limited improvement on mechanical properties, but it was closely consistent with...

Nonlinear Vibration Analysis of Circular Microplate Based on Strain Gradient Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faghihi, Mohammad Amin (Author) ; Asghari, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays the combination of mechanical and electronic systems in small scales is gaining attention. Micro electro-mechanical systems are widely used in various industries such as car manufacturing and electronic chips. In these devices, the most important and useful mechanical structures are beams and plates. Therefore, investigating the mechanical properties of these structures in very small scales (micro and nano) is of great importance. Decreasing the size to these scales leads to the dependence of the behavior of these structures to size. Accordingly, some theories for prediction of these behaviors have been presented, one of which is the strain gradient theory. This theory is used in...

Intelligent topology-oriented load shedding scheme in power systems

    , Article 27th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2019, 30 April 2019 through 2 May 2019 ; 2019 , Pages 652-656 ; 9781728115085 (ISBN) Zare, F ; Ranjbar, A ; Faghihi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2019
    Abstract
Load shedding is a prevalent emergency control designed to prevent system blackouts. The higher complexity and lower predictability of modern power systems makes it difficult to rely on conventional load shedding schemes which shed loads in pre-defined steps without sufficient consideration of the actual system characteristics and the disturbance situations. In case of large disturbances, the power system stability can be improved by optimal load shedding in more effective load buses. Proposed scheme utilizes improved Power Flow Tracing method to determine the amount and location of load drops considering power system constraints. Numerical simulations conducted on IEEE 39 bus standard test...

    Abstract
Load shedding (LS) is one of the most important protection schemes to prevent system blackout. In the case of largedisturbances, optimal LS in appropriate buses can effectively maintain the system stability. The higher complexity and lowerpredictability of modern power systems with high wind power penetration make it difficult to rely on conventional LS schemes, which shed a fixed, predetermined amount of load regardless of disturbance location. This study presents an intelligent LSscheme based on synchrophasor measurements that are adapted to both disturbance size and power system inertia. Theproposed scheme utilises improved power flow tracing method to determine the amount and location of...

Effects of rubber curing ingredients and PhenolicResin on mechanical, thermal, and morphological characteristics of rubber/phenolic-resin blends

    , Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 108, Issue 6 , 2008 , Pages 3808-3821 ; 00218995 (ISSN) Derakhshandeh, B ; Shojaei, A ; Faghihi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
This article examines the physical and mechanical characteristics of mixtures of two different synthetic rubbers, namely styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and nitril-butadiene rubber (NBR), with novolac type phenolicresin (PH). According to Taguchi experimental design method, it is shown that the addition of PH increases the crosslinking density of rubber phase probably due to its curative effects. Thermal analysis of the blends indicates that, contrary to NBR/PH blend, thermal stability of SBR/PH blend is dependent on sulfur content due to predominant polysulfidic crosslinks formed in SBR. Slight shift in glass-transition temperature (Tg) of pure SBR and NBR vulcanizates by the addition of PH...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nushak, Fatemeh (Author) ; baghalha, morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEM, the produced water would be divided into two phases of vapor and liquid. distribution of both liquid and vapor phases in different cell layers affects the performance, the efficiency and the life of a fuel cell significantly. Moreover, Nano pores of the cathode catalyst layer are involved with some phenomena such as electrochemical reaction kinetics, heat and mass transfer and interface phase change. One of the most important problems in the performance of fuel cells is distribution of liquid water in the porous areas. Water flooding in fuel cells causes to delay in oxygen transport to active sites in the catalyst layer because the pores of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naghib, Hamed (Author) ; Eskandari, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the interaction between thin plate completely bonded to the transversely isotropic halfspace and a concentrated force applied horizontally (Mindlin-type force) are considered. This problem has been solved analytically. This problem is used as sample for thin solid films and surface coating technology, where the surface of solid is covered by thethin plate for increasing its stiffness. Moreover, this problem is a good sample when homogenous solid is subjected to contact loading and can be seen that mechanical properties of material which is near the solid surface varies; consequently, a two-phase solid is created.Because of the influence of noted inhomogeneity, solid is...

Database Schema Extraction Prevention Through DBMS Error Handling

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naghdi, Sepideh (Author) ; Amini, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays large volume of sensitive data of organizations are stored in the databases. Thus, databases are attractive to the attackers to execute different types of attacks with different purposes. The useful information that attackers try to achieve in the preliminary steps of the attacks against the databases, is the database structure or schema. One of the popular approach to extract the schema of a database is to analyze the returned error messages from its DBMS. Hence, a solution to prevent schema disclosure via the error messages is customizing and modifying them. To achieve this goal, in this thesis, we propose a framework to handle and customize the error messages automatically and...

An Access Control System for Time Series Data in NoSQL Databases

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noury, Amir (Author) ; Amini, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
An important class of applications which have been rapidly growing recently is the one that create and use time series data. These types of data sets are ordered based on the timestamps associated to their data items. In practice, traditional relational databases are unable to satisfy the requirements of these data sets; however, NoSQL databases with column-wide data structure are appropriate infrastructure for them. These databases are very efficient in read and write operations (especially for time series data, which are ordered) and are able to store unstructured data. Time series data may contain valuable and sensitive information; hence, they should be protected from the information...
