Numerical modeling of pulse tube refrigerator and sensitivity analysis of simulation

    Abstract
In this article a double-inlet pulse-tube refrigerator (DIPTR) is modeled using the nodal analysis technique. The main complexity of the problem is oscillatory and unsteady characteristics of the flow. Solving the flow field in the regenerator section of the system as a porous medium with nonlocal thermal equilibrium is challenging. Governing equations are developed applying mass, energy, and momentum equations to different finite volumes in each component of DIPTR. A numerical code (SharifPTR), with graphical user interface, has been developed to investigate the influence of geometrical and working parameters on performance. The governing equations are a system of boundary value problems....

Dynamic responses of a rectangular plate under motion of an oscillator using a semi-analytical method

    , Article JVC/Journal of Vibration and Control ; Volume 17, Issue 9 , 2011 , Pages 1310-1324 ; 10775463 (ISSN) Ghafoori, E ; Kargarnovin, M. H ; Ghahremani, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A semi-analytical method is presented to calculate the dynamic responses of a rectangular plate due to a moving oscillator. In previous analytical solutions of the moving oscillator problem, the elastic distributed structure has usually been modeled by an elastic beam structure. This restrictive assumption is removed in this study by assuming a general plate as two-dimensional elastic distributed structure. The method can be applied for any arbitrary path on the plate. A combination of the Fourier and Laplace transformation as well as the convolution theorem is used to solve the governing differential equations of the problem. A modified integration technique is then presented to solve the...

Experimental investigation of thermal resistance of a ferrofluidic closed-loop pulsating heat pipe

    , Article Heat Transfer Engineering ; Vol. 35, issue. 1 , 2014 , pp. 25-33 ; ISSN: 01457632 Mohammadi, M ; Mohammadi, M ; Ghahremani, A. R ; Shafii, M. B ; Mohammadi, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
For the present article, a pulsating heat pipe (PHP) is fabricated and tested experimentally by bending a copper tube. The effects of working fluid, heat input, charging ratio, inclination angle, magnets location, and ferrofluid (magnetic nanofluid) volumetric concentration have been investigated on the thermal performance of this PHP. Experimental results show that using ferrofluid as a working fluid improves the thermal performance of the PHP significantly. Moreover, applying a magnetic field on a ferrofluidic PHP reduces its thermal resistance. By changing the inclination angle of the PHP from vertical mode to angles close to the horizontal mode, the present PHP has a constant and...

Optimization of a regenerative gas turbine engine with isothermal heat addition with the genetic algorithm

    , Article Proceedings of the ASME Turbo Expo, 8 June 2009 through 12 June 2009, Orlando, FL ; Volume 4 , 2009 , Pages 265-274 ; 9780791848852 (ISBN) Haghighi, E ; Borzou, B ; Ghahremani, A. R ; Shafii, M. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The use of advanced cycles to take advantage of the gas turbine's thermodynamic characteristics has received increasing attention in recent years. These cycles have been developed for large scale power generation. Due to the powerful abilities of bio-inspired computing techniques such as Genetic Algorithm in locating the optimal (or near optimal) solutions to a given optimization problem, they are widely utilized for determining the parameters of different engineering systems in order to meet the specified performance objectives for a given problem. In order to illustrate the performance of one of these techniques, development and application of it for an engineering problem is presented. In...

    Abstract
This study aims to identify genetic causes of familial female infertility characterized by embryonic developmental arrest (EDA) and repeated implantation failure (RIF) with oocyte donation IVF cycle. We used Whole-exome sequencing and Sanger validation to find causative genes in an Iranian consanguineous family that had 3 infertile daughters, 4 fertile daughters, and 2 fertile sons. All patients in this consanguineous family exhibited typical manifestations of unexplained RIF and EDA. Genetic analysis identified a homozygous missense variant (c.G1054C:p.G352R) in exon 13 of the TLE6 gene that cosegregated with the EDA phenotype in an autosomal recessive pattern. Other members of the family,...
