    , Article Surface and Coatings Technology ; Vol. 238 , 2014 , pp. 158-164 ; ISSN: 02578972 Surani Yancheshmeh, H ; Ghorbani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The effect of pulse reverse current (PRC) method on Ni-Mo coatings electroplated from chloride solution was investigated by various plating parameters such as plating duration, the anodic duty cycle, the anodic current density and the cathodic current density. By increasing the anodic duty cycle and anodic current density, the Mo content of coatings reached 68wt.% and 78wt.%, respectively at cathodic current densities of 500 and 300mAcm-2. The Mo content of coatings increases by the preferential dissolution of Ni on the anodic pulse and also by the replenishment of Mo complexes in the diffusion layer near the substrate surface during the anodic pulse. In comparison with the direct current...

    , Article Ceramics International ; Vol. 41, issue. 1 , 2014 , pp. 217-224 ; ISSN: 02728842 Sajjadnejad, M ; Ghorbani, M ; Afshar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Zinc-TiO2 nano-composite coatings were synthesized by Direct Current (DC) and Pulse Current (PC) electrodeposition techniques. The effects of the plating parameters on the microstructure, codeposition percentage of TiO2 and corrosion behavior were investigated. The coatings morphology presents hexagonal grains perpendicularly oriented to the surface. Under DC conditions, TiO2 content of the coatings decreased with increasing TiO2 concentration of the electrolyte. Increasing applied current and TiO2 concentration in the bath leads to a fine microstructure with corrosion currents as low as 2.7 μA/cm2. Under PC conditions, incorporation rate of nanoparticles tends to increase with increasing...

    Abstract
Homogeneous and fairly monosized microspherical structures of polyaniline has been synthesized using a simple soft template method with β-naphthalene sulfonic acid (β-NSA) as both the surfactant and dopant, and ammonium persulfate (APS) as the oxidant at 2-5 C. The morphology of PANI-NSA was successfully controlled from nanotubes to microsphere, by changing the synthesis conditions (i.e. pH, the concentration of surfactant and monomer, and temperature). Some mechanistic aspects of the formation of nanotubes and hollow spheres have been discussed precisely based on SEM, TEM, DLS, FTIR and UV-visible results. Moreover, synthesis was performed under acidic environment to obtain further...

    Abstract
This paper presents a detailed frequency-domain system identification method applied to identify steering dynamics of a coastal patrol vessel using a data analysis software called CIFER. Advanced features such as the Chirp-Z transform and composite window optimization are used to extract high quality frequency responses. An accurate, robust and linear transfer function model is derived for yaw and roll dynamics of the vessel. To evaluate the accuracy of the identified model, time domain responses from a 45-45 zig-zag test are compared with the responses predicted by the identified model. The identified model shows excellent predictive capability and is well suited for simulation and...

    Abstract
Cu-Sn composites incorporated with graphite and/or SiC particles were produced by electrodeposition technique. The effect of particle concentration in the plating bath and current density on tin content and volume percentage of particles in the coatings has been investigated. Structure, morphology, micro hardness and wear properties of the coatings have been studied. The results showed that particles cause an increase of tin content in the plated Cu-Sn. Graphite and silicon carbide particles had different effects on coating hardness; 7.8. vol.% graphite decreased the hardness of Cu-Sn layer from 231. Hv to 172. Hv whereas, 5.1. vol.% SiC raised the hardness to 316. Hv. Moreover, friction...

A sigma-delta analog to digital converter based on iterative algorithm

    , Article Eurasip Journal on Advances in Signal Processing ; Volume 2012, Issue 1 , 2012 ; 16876172 (ISSN) Kafashan, M ; Ghorbani, M ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In this article, we present a new iterative algorithm aimed at improving the performance of the sigma-delta analog to digital (A/D) converter. We subject the existing sigma-delta modulator, without changing the configuration, to an iterative procedure to increase the signal-to-noise ratio of the reconstructed signal. In other words, we demonstrate that sigma-delta modulated signals can be decoded using the iterative algorithm. Simulation results confirm that the proposed method works very well, even when less complex filters are used. The simple and regular structure of this new A/D converter, not only makes realization of the hardware as ASIC or on FPGA boards easy, but also allows it to...

    Abstract
Electrodeposition of long and well-defined gold nanotubes in polycarbonate (PC) templates is still a major concern due to pore blockage problems. In the present study, we introduce a novel method for electrodeposition of long gold nanotubes within the pores of PC templates for the first time. In order to deposit gold atoms onto the pore walls preferentially, pore walls were functionalized with a coupling agent. Short and thin Ni nanotubes were then electrodeposited at the bottom of the pores. Gold nanotubes were subsequently electrodeposited at constant potentials and low solution concentrations. The morphology of nanotubes was characterized by electron microscopy and their formation...

    Abstract
The alcoholic suspensions of titania nano-particles were prepared using the methanol, ethanol, isopropanol and butanol as the solvents as well as triethanolamine (TEA) as an dispersant. The colloidal stability of suspensions, both in the absence as well as presence of TEA, was studied by measuring the zeta potential, sedimentation, pH and electrical conductivity of suspensions, dispersant adsorption and particles size distribution. Results showed that in the absence of TEA, the stability of the suspensions increases with the molecular size of alcohol (from methanol to butanol), while the zeta potential decreases. It was also observed that with the addition of TEA up to the optimum dosage (4...

    , Article Proceedings - 2011 2nd International Conference on Control, Instrumentation and Automation, ICCIA 2011 ; 2012 , Pages 195-200 Salarieh, H ; Ghorbani, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of Optimal Trajectory Planning for a high speed planing boat under nonlinear equality and inequality path constraints, is addressed. First, a nonlinear mathematical model of the craft's dynamic is constructed. To solve a trajectory optimization problem, we can utilize the indirect or direct methods. In the indirect methods, the maximum principle of Pontryagin is used to transform the optimal control problem into Euler-Lagrange equations, on the other hand, in the direct methods it is necessary to transcribe the optimal control problem into a nonlinear programming problem (NLP) by discretization of states and controls. The resulted NLP can be solved by...

Electrophoretic deposition of titania nanoparticles in different alcohols: Kinetics of deposition

    , Article Journal of the American Ceramic Society ; Volume 94, Issue 8 , 2011 , Pages 2354-2361 ; 00027820 (ISSN) Farrokhi Rad, M ; Ghorbani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The suspension of titania nanoparticles in different alcohols (methanol, ethanol, and butanol) was prepared and triethanolamine (TEA) was used as a dispersant. The suspensions were characterized by different tests such as sedimentation, zeta potential, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The electrophoretic deposition (EPD) was performed at various voltages and times. EPD from butanolic suspension (0.8 g/L TEA) showed the slowest kinetics, because of the low electrophoretic mobility of titania nanoparticles in it (2.40 × 10-5 cm2·(V·s)-1). Also, it was observed that at low voltages (5, 10, and 20 V), the EPD kinetics from methanolic suspension (0 g/L TEA) was the fastest; however,...
