    Abstract
This paper will focus on the design and development of a new gait training robotic device (LOKOIRAN) for patients with balance and locomotion disorders. The process of rehabilitation in this system is based on partial weight bearing system and programmable foot-plate training. The system consisted of several subsystems following: Driving and transmission system, back supporting system, leg exoskeleton, body weight support system and control system. A virtual reality environment was also designed and integrated to the system in order to motivate patients during rehabilitation protocol. The experimental tests on healthy subjects were performed to evaluate the performances of mechanical and...

Non-linear dynamical features of center of pressure extracted by recurrence quantification analysis in people with unilateral anterior cruciate ligament injury

    Abstract
Knowledge about the non-linear dynamical pattern of postural sway may provide important insights into the adaptability (flexibility) of human postural control in response to everyday stresses imposed on the body. A commonly used non-linear tool, i.e. recurrence quantification analysis, was chosen to investigate the effect of prior anterior cruciate ligament injury on the deterministic pattern of postural sway under different conditions of postural and cognitive difficulty. In double leg stance, as postural difficulty increased from open-eyes to closed-eyes and rigid-surface to foam-surface, the centre of pressure regularity (%determinism) increased as well. In comparison to healthy...

The effects of dual-tasking on postural control in people with unilateral anterior cruciate ligament injury

    Abstract
Several studies have investigated postural control in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) deficient patients; yet the contribution of cognitive processing (attention) in the postural control of these patients is still unclear. A dual-task design was used to determine the effects of a concurrent digit span memory task on standing balance in a group of ACL patients (n = 27) compared with a group of matched, healthy participants (n = 27). In double limb stance, three levels of postural difficulty were studies on a force platform (rigid surface with eyes open, rigid surface with eyes closed, and foam surface with eyes closed). There were three cognitive conditions (no cognitive task, easy cognitive...

Translation and validation study of the Persian version of the Arthritis Impact Measurement Scales 2 (AIMS2) in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee

    , Article BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders ; Volume 10, Issue 1 , 2009 ; 14712474 (ISSN) Mousavi, S. J ; Parnianpour, M ; Askary Ashtiani, A. R ; Hadian, M. R ; Rostamian, A ; Montazeri, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Background. The Arthritis Impact Measurement Scales 2 (AIMS2) has not been translated and validated for Persian-speaking patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. This was to provide a validated instrument to measure functional disability and health-related quality of life in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee in Iran. The aim of this study was to culturally adapt and validate the AIMS2 for Persian-speaking patients with osteoarthritis of the knee in Iran. Methods. A consecutive sample of patients with knee osteoarthritis were asked to complete the AIMS2, the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and four visual analog scales for pain, joint stiffness, patient's and physician's global...

Test-retest reliabty of center of pressure measures of postural stability during quiet standing in a group with musculoskeletal disorders consisting of low back pain, anterior cruciate ligament injury and functional ankle instability

    , Article Gait and Posture ; Volume 29, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 460-464 ; 09666362 (ISSN) Salavati, M ; Hadian, M. R ; Mazaheri, M ; Negahban, H ; Ebrahimi, I ; Talebian, S ; Jafari, A. H ; Sanjari, M. A ; Sohani, S. M ; Parnianpour, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Reliability is a population-specific property, but to the authors' knowledge there has been no study to determine the test-retest reliability of the postural stability measures such as center of pressure (COP) measures in the population of patients with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), while their clinical applications have been presented in literature. So, 33 patients with low back pain (LBP), anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and functional ankle instability (FAI) randomly completed postural measurements with three levels of difficulty (rigid surface-eyes open, rigid surface-eyes closed, and foam surface-eyes closed) in two sessions. COP data were used to calculate standard...

    Abstract
STUDY DESIGN. Cultural translation and psychometric testing. OBJECTIVE. To translate and validate the Iranian versions of the Neck Disability Index (NDI-IR) and the Neck Pain and Disability Scale (NPDS-IR). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA. The widely used the NDI and the NPDS scales have not been translated and validated for Persian-speaking patients with neck pain. This was to provide a validated instrument to measure functional status in patients with neck pain in Iran. METHODS. The translation and cultural adaptation of the original questionnaires were carried out in accordance with the published guidelines. One hundred and eighty-five patients with neck pain were participated in the study....
