Design of Airport Control Tower Structures Located in Seismic Zones

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi Toroghi, Amir (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Airport Traffic Control Towers (ATCTs) are among the most critical structures in an airport that are expected to keep their level of serviceability after severe strong earthquakes. Therefore analysis and design of these structures need a detailed investigation on the seismic behavior of the structure based on the structural characteristics. In this study three different existing reinforced concrete ATCTs have been investigated. As important parameters of earthquake design of structures, response modification factor (R-factor) of these towers will be determined. R-factor reduces elastic force level to design force level and contains the effect of ductility, overstrength. In Iranian seismic...

Hardware Implementation of ANFIS Based Equalizer

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi Toroghi, Navid (Author) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Ghorshi, Mohammad Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, prolific usage of free air as a medium for data transmission leads interests to optimize the conditions of devices which are involved in wireless communication systems. Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) distortion is a natural characteristic of wireless channels that occurs due to propagating electromagnetic waves in different directions. Due to different paths between a transmitter and a receiver, the received signal consists of several copies of the transmitted signal with different delays. The most common way of eliminating or mitigating the effects of ISI is channel equalization. The present work leads to implementing a supervised equalization in wireless communication. The...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khaksar Toroghi, Masoud (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Controlling the nonlinear processes is very important in industry. In this thesis, model predictive control is considered as a nonlinear control strategy and two nonlinear models, namely wiener and Hammerstein models are used and their identification methods are described. State-space model is also considered and closed-loop stability has been studied. Another strategy for controlling the nonlinear process is global linearization control. Some concepts and related theorems for this strategy are stated. PID controller is used as a linear controller for this strategy. In this model for estimating the state and load, two nonlinear observers are used. Stability analysis of output feedback...

Analysis of Security Properties of E-voting Protocols: A Provable-security Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Toroghi Haghighat, Ali Reza (Author) ; Jalili, Rasool (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recent violation of security properties of e-voting protocols not using provable security, indicates the importance of provable security. In this thesis, we use the provable security approach to analyze security properties of e-voting protocols. In addition to presenting an efficient and provably secure protocol, the minimal assumptions to achieve privacyin e-voting protocols are analyzed. The firstcon-tribution of this thesis is presenting an efficient and provably secure coercion-resistant protocol, which is a variant of the JCJ e-voting protocol (Juels et al.,2010). It decreases the total number of JCJ’s operations fromO(n2) to O(n). The second contribution of this thesis is proving the...

Experimental and Theoretical Analysis of Plastic Deformation of Metals under Impact Loading Using Taylor Impact Test

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khayyer Dastjerdi Toroghi, Ahmad (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In most of the engineering applications, the mechanical behavior of materials in high strain rate deformations differs from their behavior in quasi-static deformations. In some engineering problems like impact loading on structures, metal forming and explosive forming, the range of strain rate is about . Taylor impact test is one of the experiments used for characterizing the dynamic behavior of materials in high strain rate deformations. In the Taylor impact test a rigid cylindrical projectile is impacted normally onto a hard and massive surface (anvil), the projectile deforms by mushrooming at the impact end. With plastic wave propagation analysis, the plastic deformation of projectile is...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vafa Toroghi, Mojtaba (Author) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Safety is an important factor in the nuclear power plants due to its inherent human and environmental hazards. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of the plant and proper functioning of its various components, a series of commissioning tests should be conducted according to international nuclear power plants standards, before its operational exploitation. On the other hand, safety of the plant can be guaranteed by modeling transient states and possible scenarios of accidents in different situations. In this study, a commissioning test of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) and its associated accident is modelled by gathering geometric data and information about the facilities...

In this paper with the use of fuzzy genetic algorithm combination with evolutionary algorithms, as a method for local searching, it has been tried to exploit high capabilities of genetic algorithm, as a search algorithm, beside to other evolutionary algorithms, as local search algorithms, in order to increase efficiency of a rule learning system. For this purpose three hybrid algorithms have been used for solving the intrusion detection problem. These three algorithms are combination of genetic algorithm and SFL and PSO as three evolutionary algorithms which try to introduce efficient solutions for complex optimization problems by patterning from natural treatments. © 2007 IEEE

Predicting the Optimal Operation Pattern of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Using Artificial Intelligence Approaches

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi, Mahdi (Author) ; Torkian, Ayoub (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the growth of the population and the significant expansion of industries in the last century, many environmental problems have plagued developed and developing countries. One of these environmental problems is water pollution. Observing the effects of water pollution over time, sanitary and industrial wastewater treatment was proposed as a reliable solution. With technology development, wastewater treatment requirements have become stricter. The increase in energy consumption and wastewater treatment costs due to population growth and industrialization on the one hand and strict regulations, on the other hand, have forced those involved in this field to employ a variety of technical and...

Investigation of Flow Field in a Small-Scale Cleanroom by Design and Implementation of Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadi, Masoud (Author) ; Saidi, Mohammad Hasan (Supervisor) ; Zabetian Toroghi, Mohammad (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
The air distribution is the main factor of contaminant transportation in cleanrooms. The experimental method is the most reliable one for investigation of flow field, which the difficulties associated with it, has limited not only the examination of the flow field in cleanrooms, but also the improvement of their qualities. Most of the experimental researches in indoor air quality concern conventional rooms and do not take into account specific supply-exhaust diffuser configurations, which are used in cleanrooms. Using small-scale models can reduce the complexity and the cost of measurements. In this research, the 3D velocity field of a small-scale cleanroom is measured in three different...

Development of a Model for Prediction of Inhibitors of HIV1 Virus

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi, Fatemeh (Author) ; Jalali Heravi, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main aim of this study is developing a robust QSAR model for describing and predicting the inhibitory activities of O-(2-phthalimidoethyl)-N-substituted thiocarbamates derivatives as novel HIV-1 non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase (HIV-1 NNRTIs) inhibitors. These drugs change the active site of the reverse transcriptase enzyme, and finally halter the HIV reproduction cycle. As the first step of this study, a multiple linear regression (MLR) model was built but it has no satisfied prediction ability. As a next step, the nonlinear correlation of the molecular descriptors and activities has been investigated by using artificial neural networks (ANN). In this section the effects of variable...

Two novel chaos-based algorithms for image and video watermarking

    , Article Iranian Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering ; Volume 8, Issue 2 , 2012 , Pages 97-107 ; 17352827 (ISSN) Mohammadi, S ; Talebi, S ; Hakimi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    IJEEE  2012
    Abstract
In this paper we introduce two innovative image and video watermarking algorithms. The paper's main emphasis is on the use of chaotic maps to boost the algorithms' security and resistance against attacks. By encrypting the watermark information in a one dimensional chaotic map, we make the extraction of watermark for potential attackers very hard. In another approach, we select embedding positions by a two dimensional chaotic map which enables us to satisfactorily distribute watermark information throughout the host signal. This prevents concentration of watermark data in a corner of the host signal which effectively saves it from being a target for attacks that include cropping of the...

Optimizing the Investment Portfolio Including Life Insurance

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi, Parsa (Author) ; Moddares Yazdi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Life insurance is a contract whereby the insurer becomes insured under certain conditions and for an amount known as insurance premium. Consequently, the insurer will pay the insured inheritors some given benefit as in the contract. There are different types of life insurance in the market. Other sectors of our proposed portfolio include risky and risk free investments. Household consumption is also considered as another variable in this package. This problem can be raised in both inflationary and non-inflationary states. You can also include a variable called loan. In the literature, this problem has been addressed by considering a sub-category of life insurance (Term Life Insurance)...

Proposing a Value-based Pricing Model in IaaS based on the Market Segmentation Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi Asiabar, Mohammad (Author) ; Houshmnad, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cloud infrastructure pricing framework is one of the challenges for many cloud economists and researchers, albeit its proper definition is one of the main requirements for business triumph. Efforts to focus on this issue have been extensively focused on a uniform market. Moreover, the models are mainly based on the cost factor and resources of cloud infrastructure, aiming to maximize revenue and profit margins for cloud service providers. Models that also consider the demand side and define criteria regarding the customer needs, preferences, and experiences are called value-based models, which provide a great competitive advantage for the providers aside from its higher profit margin and...

Graphene oxide interlayered in binder-free sulfur vapor deposited cathode for lithium-sulfur battery

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Volume 55, Issue 16 , 2022 ; 00223727 (ISSN) Hakimi, M ; Sanaee, Z ; Ghasemi, S ; Mohajerzadeh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    IOP Publishing Ltd  2022
    Abstract
The main drawback of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries which leads to a short lifetime, is the shuttle effect during the battery operation. One of the solutions to mitigate the shuttle effect is the utilization of interlayers. Herein, graphene oxide (GO) paper as an interlayer has been implemented between the sulfur cathode fabricated by the vapor deposition process as a binder-free electrode and a separator in a Li-S battery in order to gain a sufficient capacity. The morphological characteristics and electrochemical performance of the fabricated electrode have been investigated. The fabricated battery demonstrates an initial discharge capacity of 1265.46 mAh g-1 at the current density of 100...

Frequency Comb Generation Using Time-Varying Electromagnetic Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hakimi, Amin (Author) ; Mehrany, Khashayar (Supervisor) ; Memarian, Mohammad (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis presents a resonant time-periodic structure based on the Fabry-Perot resonator for frequency comb generation. Time-periodic structures cannot generate a frequency comb by themselves because side-harmonic amplitudes are really weak. However, due to resonant structure, it is expected that the side-harmonics, which are generated because of the time-periodic part of the structure, are increased if they are close to the main modes of the structure. But the results show that, generally, the amplitude of side harmonics, which are close to the main mode, is increased and far side-harmonics don't have remarkable amplitudes. However, we will show that if the modulation frequency of the...

Experimental and Numerical Study of Spray Combustion under Hot-diluted Conditions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Azimi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Mardani, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, combustion of liquid fuel spray under the condition of hot and diluted oxidizer, has been investigated. To this end, a novel type laboratory-scale test rig was designed to study the physics governing the MILD-Spray combustion conditions with an applied approach. The underlined test rig eliminates the operational problems of its predecessor test stands and is used for a heavier fuel with much more complex chemical composition (kerosene). The test section is axially symmetrical, in which the fuel is injected by a pressure-swirl atomizer in the direction of hot and diluted co-flowing air. With the use of the aforesaid test rig, the effect of variables such as oxygen...

Residuated semigroups and morphological aspects of translation invariant systems [electronic resource]

, Article 1997, Volume 90, Issue 1, Pages 69–81 ; Fuzzy Sets and Systems Daneshgar, A. (Amir) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The main goal of this paper is to verify classical properties of morphological operators within the general model of translation invariant (TI) systems. In this model, TI operators are defined on the space of LG-fuzzy sets Φ i.e. Φ = {A: G → Ω ∪ {− ∞}} in which G is an abelian group and Ω is a complete lattice ordered group. A TI operator Y is an operator on Φ which is invariant under translation on G and Ω as groups. We consider the generalization of Minkowski addition (D on Φ and we emphasize that (Φ,⊛) is an involutive residuated topological monoid. We verify all properties of traditional (set-theoretic) morphological operators as well as classical representations (Matheron, 1967) for...

On defining numbers of circular complete graphs

    , Article Discrete Mathematics ; Volume 307, Issue 2, 28 January 2007, Pages 173–180 Daneshgar, A. (Amir) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Let d(σ)d(σ) stand for the defining number of the colouring σσ. In this paper we consider View the MathML sourcedmin=minγd(γ) and View the MathML sourcedmax=maxγd(γ) for the onto χχ-colourings γγ of the circular complete graph Kn,dKn,d. In this regard we obtain a lower bound for dmin(Kn,d)dmin(Kn,d) and we also prove that this parameter is asymptotically equal to χ-1χ-1. Also, we show that when χ⩾4χ⩾4 and s≠0s≠0 then dmax(Kχd-s,d)=χ+2s-3dmax(Kχd-s,d)=χ+2s-3, and, moreover, we prove an inequality relating this parameter to the circular chromatic number for any graph G

Duality in a generalized model for translation invariant systems [electronic resource]

, Article Fuzzy Sets and Systems ; 1996, Volume 83, Issue 3, Pages 347–352 Daneshgar, A. (Amir) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In a previous paper we introduced a generalized model for translation invariant (TI) operators. In this model we considered the space, φ of all maps from an abelian group G to ω U {-∞}, called LG-fuzzy sets, where ω is a complete lattice-ordered group; and we defined TI operators on this space. Also, in that paper, we proved strong reconstruction theorem to show the consistency of this model. This theorem states that for an order-preserving TI operator Y one can explicitly compute Y(A), for any A, from a specific subset of φ called the base of Y. In this paper duality is considered in the same general framework, and in this regard, continuous TI operators are studied. This kind of operators...
