    Abstract
In this work, a more accurate prediction of liquid evaporation flux has been achieved. The statistical rate theory approach, which is recently introduced by Ward and Fang and exact estimation of vapor pressure in the layer adjacent to the liquid-vapor interface have been used for prediction of this flux. Firstly, the existence of an equilibrium layer adjacent to the liquid-vapor interface is considered and the vapor pressure in this layer and its thickness calculated. Subsequently, by using the Fick's second law, an appropriate vapor pressure expression for the pressure of equilibrium layer is derived and by this expression and the statistical rate theory approach, evaporation flux is...

    Abstract
Automatic cell segmentation has various applications in different parts of science. The development of automated methods for cell segmentation, remains challenging in situations where there are touching cells. In this paper we propose a new method for separating touching cells. As the first step, we use a combination of graph segmentation algorithm and thresholding for segmenting foreground objects and producing a binary image. Next, boundary points of separation zone are selected by using a corner detection algorithm. Finally, the marker controller watershed transform is applied to separate touching cells at selected points. © 2008 IEEE

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Share Isfahani, Hajar (Author) ; Shafahi, Yusof (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Railway managers have strong economic incentive to minimize the cost of track maintenance in order to conserve safety standards and provide adequate service levels for train operators. The main object of this study is to provide a method for railway repairing and maintaining management and improve previous researchs.
In this study, a cumulative damage model based upon a nonhomogeneous Markov process is developed to model track deterioration. The maintenance of deteriorating facilities can be a great challenge because the process of deteriorating has random features for some facilities.
The genetic algorithm is used to find the optimal repair for each possible track state in the...

Flight Frequency Determination and Aircraft Routing Problem: Model and Solution

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nasr Isfahani, Hossein (Author) ; Shafahi, Yusof (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study aims to solve weekly Flight Frequency Determination and Aircraft Maintenance Routing Problem (AMRP) simultaneously. The objective function here is to maximize the total net profit of an assumptive airline with predetermined airfare and origin-destination market demand. All the needed constraints regarding AMRP is added to the modified version of original model which proposed by Ghafoori in 2011. On the other hand, while this kind of model is based on travelling salesman problem, the occurrence of sub-tours is inevitable. Thus, the model will be, secondly, restricted with more constraints which help eliminate infeasible solutions. The proposed model, then, is tested for three...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samiei Isfahani, Saman (Author) ; Hadadpour, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Road casualty is the fifth leading cause of death in Iran. To adopt proper countermeasures there is a need to evaluate the consequences of the implemented policies. Despite the development of crash time series models, these methods have not been in accordance with the multivariate, seasonal, and non-linear nature of crash data. On the other hand, the interpretable crash causal analysis frameworks are descriptive and they lack predictive power. Moreover, the unobserved homogeneity between observations has been widely overlooked in the crash causal analysis literature. This thesis introduces a novel causal analysis methodology by combining the interpretability and prediction power of the...

    Abstract
A variational theory (VT), in which the potential energy of a real system is evaluated relative to the hard-sphere system, was used to investigate the medium's effects on the pair potential parameters. By adding the medium's effects to the isolated pair potential, the concept of an 'effective pair potential' (EPP) was introduced. The EPP parameters were compared with those of the average effective pair potential (AEPP) for Ar, which showed the importance of the medium effects and the long range interactions of the AEPP in dense fluids. The study showed that the depth parameter of the AEPP is much larger than that of the EPP
