    Abstract
Nowadays, ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems are in focus because of their attractive features such as high capacity, low power consumption and robustness against fading. On the other hand, spectrally-encoded spread-time (SE/ST) systems with superior ability on interference suppression provide proper multiuser efficiency over UWB channels. Coherent SE/ST code division multiple access (CDMA) systems are widely addressed in the literature requiring accurate channel estimation and high implementation complexity. In this paper we propose multi-level SE/ST CDMA system with non-coherent detection and simple receiver structure. Our results demonstrate the effect of signal to noise ratio...

    Abstract
In this paper, we study and analyze the performance of matched and partially-matched receivers for a typical ultra wide-band Spectrally-Encoded Spread-Time (SE/ST) CDMA in the presence of multiple tone jammers. We investigate a scenario where there is no information about the jammer frequencies in the transmitter side while it is desirable to cancel it in the receiver side. We will demonstrate the performance of the SE/ST system would be improved through partially matched filter at the receiver. In addition, we approximate the two-dimensional RAKE receiver by a simple one-dimensional RAKE for the scenario where there are K asynchronous users. Furthermore, closed form formula for the...

Joint pilot power and pattern design for compressive OFDM channel estimation

    Abstract
This letter investigates the deterministic design of pilot power and pattern for sparse channel estimation in OFDM systems based on minimizing the coherence of the DFT sub-matrix. It has been suggested that the pilot pattern forming a cyclic difference set (CDS) or almost difference set (ADS) is optimal. So, we proposed a deterministic procedure that jointly optimized for pattern and power of pilots as a solution. First, pilot patterns forming CDS/ADS were gathered through a search. Then, the power was numerically allocated to the different pilots from all the patterns. Finally, the pilot pattern and power pair leading to minimum coherence was selected from the available pairs. Simulation...

MIMO SAR ground moving target indication via compressed sensing

    , Article 26th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2018, 8 May 2018 through 10 May 2018 ; 2018 , Pages 398-403 ; 9781538649169 (ISBN) Hedayati, R ; Mashhadi, S ; Vahedi, P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems are so popular in aerial imaging because of their high resolution. Ground moving target indication (GMTI) is one of the most challenging problems in this field. The use of multiple antennas in transmit and receive is an innovative idea that can overcome the limitations of SAR systems. In this paper, after modelling the received signal and focusing it, we propose an algorithm for GMTI with the use of compressed sensing. The proposed algorithm has low complexity compared to similar algorithms. Simulation results show that this approach is accurate in estimation of positions and velocities of moving targets. © 2018 IEEE

A new trade-off scheme for MIMO OFDM-based cognitive radio systems over correlated fading channels

    , Article Conference of Open Innovation Association, FRUCT, 20 April 2015 through 24 April 2015 ; Volume 2015-June, Issue June , April , 2015 , Pages 247-258 ; 23057254 (ISSN) Zamanipour, M ; Mashhadi, S ; Balandin S ; Trifonova U ; Tyutina T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A joint pre- and post-coder (JPROC) is proposed for MIMO OFDM-based cognitive radio systems over correlated fading channels. The main aim is to have a trade-off between licensed networks and un-licensed networks in the underlay scenario. To handle the un-desired interferences on the main networks, the eigen-values of this JPROC should be small in each licensed network, as much as possible, whereas un-licensed users have higher rates. Frequency selective MIMO fading channels are coded with orthogonal space-time-frequency block codes (OSTFBCs) to improve the bad effects of these small eigen-values on the signal to noise ratio (SNR) in the main network. On the other hand, the system is operated...

Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system approach in bandwidth and mutual coupling analyses of a novel UWB MIMO antenna with notch bands applicable for massive MIMOs

    , Article AEU - International Journal of Electronics and Communications ; Volume 94 , 2018 , Pages 407-417 ; 14348411 (ISSN) Abbasi Layegh, M ; Ghobadi, C ; Nourinia, J ; Samoodi, Y ; Najafi Mashhadi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A novel UWB MIMO antenna with band-notched characteristic operating in the frequency range between 3.1 GHz and 10.6 GHz is presented. The designed MIMO antenna has two ports and the size of 32×14 mm2 which is fabricated on an FR-4 printed-circuit-board. The feeding system of the proposed antenna is a microstrip line. The two antennas are positioned face to face but laid reversely upon the substrate in order to have a good isolation, less cross polarization, high gain and good envelope correlation coefficient. S-parameters describe the input-output relationship between ports (or terminals) in a MIMO antenna. The effects of the strip feed line width on the variations in reflection coefficient...

Fuzzy pole placement for speed control in D.C. motor

    Abstract
Background: in this paper, fuzzy pole placement control approach is proposed to control the speed of D.C motor. In this method, state feedback gain is tuned by fuzzy logic. Methods: In conventional pole placement control, constant gain is considered to insert the poles of system in the desired place. Therefore, unnecessary effort is appliedto the system, and the system implementation becomes costly. In contrast, in fuzzy pole placement control, poles of system alter gradually based on the performance of system and are settled in desired point causing the system to display apposite performance. In other words, in conventional pole placement, a determined pair of poles exists, whereas in fuzzy...

Compressed sensing and multiple image fusion: An information theoretic approach

, Article Iranian Conference on Machine Vision and Image Processing, MVIP ; 2013 , Pages 339-342 ; 21666776 (ISSN) ; 9781467361842 (ISBN) Keykhosravi, K ; Mashhadi, S ; Engineers (IEEE) Antennas and Propagation Society; The Institute of Electrical and Electronics ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, we propose an information theoretic approach to fuse images compressed by compressed sensing (CS) techniques. The goal is to fuse multiple compressed images directly using measurements and reconstruct the final image only once. Since the reconstruction is the most expensive step, it would be a more economic method than separate reconstruction of each image. The proposed scheme is based on calculating the result using weighted average on the measurements of the inputs, where weights are calculated by information theoretic functions. The simulation results show that the final images produced by our method have higher quality than those produced by traditional methods, especially...

    Abstract
Communication networks with highly mobile users are emerging rapidly. Autonomous vehicular communication is an interesting example of such systems. High mobility speed causes drastic change in channel states, and consequently a doubly selective fading scenario is a proper model for such channels. In this paper, by considering this proper model, we introduce a multiuser system based on orthogonal signal division multiplexing in a cognitive radio scenario. Carrier interferometry codes are also utilized in this system. By designing the transmitter and receiver, the performance of such system is investigated. We show that this system works properly when users are moving rapidly, and moreover the...
