An Algorithm for Solving Generalized Single Row Facility Layout Problem

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Meskar, Mana (Author) ; Eshghi, Kourosh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Layout design problem is to determine a suitable arrangement for the departments, so that the total costs associated with the flow among departments become least. Single Row Facility Layout Problem which is called SRFLP, is one of layout problems that has many practical applications. This problem and its specific scenarios is often used to model many of the raised issues. This is arrangements of n departments with a specified length in a straight line, so that the sum of the weighted distances between pairs of departments is minimized. We can say that SRFLP is one-dimensional version of the layout design problem and it tries to minimize the cost of communication between rectangular...

Dynamic Pricing with Considering Customers Negotiation and Reference Price Effect

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Meskar, Mahla (Author) ; Modarres Yazdi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis studies optimal pricing policy of a firm selling perishable products in a retail store facing stochastic arrival of customers whom may ask for a bargain. With the tremendous growth of the internet and online sale channels, the ability of customers to get detailed information about previous sales creates an expectation for reasonable price of product in customers' opinion called reference price which has great impacts on their willingness to pay. In this work, we address the problem of determining a pricing strategy considering reference price effects in addition to customers' negotiation ability. We use dynamic programming to model retailer's problem, which considering reference...

Developing an optimal peer-to-peer ride-matching problem algorithm with ride transfers

    , Article Transportation Research Record ; Volume 2676, Issue 11 , 2022 , Pages 124-136 ; 03611981 (ISSN) Nickkar, A ; Lee, Y. J ; Meskar, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Thanks to recent developments in ride-hailing transit services throughout the world, the peer-to-peer (P2P) ride-matching problem has been actively considered in academia in recent years. P2P ride-matching not only reduces travel costs for riders but also benefits drivers by saving them money in exchange for their additional travel time. However, assigning riders to drivers in an efficient way is a complex problem that requires focusing on maximizing the benefits for both riders and drivers. This study aims to formulate a multi-driver multi-rider (MDMR) P2P ride-matching problem, based on rational preferences and cost allocation for both driver and rider, which also allows riders to transfer...

Developing an optimal algorithm for demand responsive feeder transit service accommodating temporary stops

    , Article Journal of Public Transportation ; Volume 24 , 2022 ; 1077291X (ISSN) Nickkar, A ; Lee, Y.-J ; Meskar, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Demand responsive feeder transit can minimize passengers’ travel times and operator's costs by optimizing routing based on real demand. One question about the demand response feeder transit operation is whether it can be optimized with door-to-door service or with temporary stops for picking up and delivering passengers. Obviously, door-to-door service eliminates passengers’ walking distances, but it increases passenger in-vehicle travel times and vehicle operating distance and costs. On the other hand, demand responsive feeder transit with temporary stops, which designates the temporary locations picking up and dropping passengers, minimizes bus operating distance and time as well as...

Design and Optimization of an Intelligent Impedance-based Flow Cytometer for POCT Applications

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Meskar, Zahra (Author) ; Fardmanesh, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Annabestani, Mohsen (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Microfluidics is the science of fabricating systems interfacing fluids of small volume and size ranging from microliters (10-6) to picolitres (10-12). Due to its remarkable features, such as low sample and reagent consumption, high sensitivity, low cost, automated devices, and short experimental time, microfluidic chips have been widely used as laboratory assays. As a term often used and described in “lab on a chip” and “organ on a chip” technologies, microfluidic chips have been used in the fast and frugal diagnosis of infectious diseases such as HIV, microscale surgery on single cells and tiny organisms and cell culture. The design, simulation, optimization, and fabrication of an...

A New Representation for GIS Data Based on Vector Format

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Meskar, Ahmad (Author) ; Vosughi Vahdat, Bijan (Supervisor) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the important tools that we frequently use in life is the map. In every day movements we can use the maps in order to navigate and find our way. We also utilize the maps to find out more about our surrounding world. GIS is the key technology which can help us reach these goals. In GIS generally there are 2 methods for representing geographic data, these methods are Raster and Vector data representation. In this thesis our purpose is to find another way for representing GIS data by using vector format. In this new representation we can access to information which are not accessible in regular maps. So we generate a new flexible platform for GIS data. Thus in order to represent new...
