    Abstract
This research reports the remarkable effects of Zr-based metal–organic framework, i.e. UiO-66, on cross-linked network structure and mechanical behaviors of ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber under sulfur vulcanization systems. To this end, EPDM rubber was vulcanized with conventional (CV), semi-efficient (SEV) and efficient (EV) vulcanization systems. In addition, EPDM nanocomposites containing 5 phr UiO-66 with all three vulcanization systems were also prepared, for the sake of comparison with their corresponding unfilled samples. While the unfilled EPDM vulcanizates showed expectable behaviors in cross-linking density estimated by swelling experiment and cure-rheometer...

Thermally oxidized Nanodiamond: an effective sorbent for separation of methotrexate from aqueous media: synthesis, characterization, in vivo and in vitro biocompatibility study

    Abstract
In the present study the effect of nanodiamond (ND) on the adsorption capacity of Drug has been investigated. Thermal oxidation nanodiamond (OND) was used as adsorbents for Methotrexate adsorption. The surface properties of NDs were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and zeta potential. It was determined that thermal oxidation changed the surface properties of ND, including increase the amount of carboxylic acid groups and decreasing the zeta potential of ND by increasing the thermal oxidation time. The adsorption experiments showed that untreated ND (UND) has large adsorption capacity and fast adsorption kinetic for methotrexate (MTX). These results suggest that the...

Nanodiamond-filled chitosan as an efficient adsorbent for anionic dye removal from aqueous solutions

    , Article Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering ; Volume 6, Issue 2 , 2018 , Pages 3283-3294 ; 22133437 (ISSN) Raeiszadeh, M ; Hakimian, A ; Shojaei, A ; Molavi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A series of novel chitosan/nanodiamond (CTS/ND) composites containing NDs with variable surface carboxyl groups and various concentrations were prepared using solution casting method. Powdery CTS/ND composites were employed as the adsorbent of a model anionic dye (methyl orange, MO). Experimental results showed that the incorporation of NDs with high carboxylic content (ND-H) in to CTS increased substantially the maximum adsorption capacity of neat CTS from 167 mg/g to 454 mg/g. The remarkable adsorption capacity of dye on CTS/ND composites was associated to the oxygen-containing groups on the outer surface of NDs which would be beneficial to interact with the dye molecules through hydrogen...

Amino-silane-grafted NH2-MIL-53(Al)/polyethersulfone mixed matrix membranes for CO2/CH4 separation

    , Article Dalton Transactions ; Volume 48, Issue 36 , 2019 , Pages 13555-13566 ; 14779226 (ISSN) Ahmadijokani, F ; Ahmadipouya, S ; Molavi, H ; Arjmand, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) are promising candidates for carbon dioxide separation. However, their application is limited due to improper dispersion of fillers within the polymer matrix, poor interaction of fillers with polymer chains, and formation of defects and micro-voids at the interface of both phases, which all result in the decline of the gas separation performance of MMMs. In this work, we present a new method to overcome these challenges. To this end, a series of MMMs based on polyethersulfone (PES) as the continuous polymer matrix and MIL-53-derived MOFs as the dispersed filler were prepared. FTIR-ATR, XRD, TGA, FESEM, and N2 adsorption/desorption analyses were employed to...

The single adsorbents and their nanohybrids were characterized by FESEM, FTIR, XRD,TGA, BET, and zeta potential measurements. The experimental adsorption results displayed that the synthesized nanohybrids presented higher adsorption capacity for anionic dyes compared to cationic dyes in...

    Abstract
A series of UiO-66/polyaniline (UiO-66/PANI) nanohybrids with various UiO-66 to aniline weight ratios ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 was synthesized using an in situ polymerization technique. The adsorption behavior of the neat PANI nanofiber network and the synthesized nanohybrids was examined toward anionic methyl orange (MO) dye from aqueous media. It was realized that the maximum adsorption capacity of PANI (229 mg/g) increases steadily by increasing the UiO-66 content in the nanohybrid up to 7 wt % at 426 mg/g, and then, it approximately levels off at 432 mg/g for the nanohybrid sample containing 10 wt % UiO-66, that is, UP10. Based on a thorough characterization, it was shown that UiO-66 is...

    Abstract
The present research focused on the corrosion protection behaviors of epoxy coatings filled with polyaniline (PANI) and its nanohybrid with a Zr-based metal-organic framework (MOF), i.e., UiO-66. Hybrid nanoparticles were synthesized at various weight percentages of UiO-66 in the nanohybrid, including 5, 25, and 50 wt % named H5, H25, and H50, respectively. The morphological features of the nanoparticles characterized with various techniques showed that the nanohybrids with higher UiO-66 content, i.e., H25 and H50, provided a core-shell microstructure with a porous core covered by the PANI outer shell. Analysis of the saline solution (3.5 wt % NaCl) containing the nanoparticles indicated the...

In this article, droplet size and its distribution along a pulsed liquid-liquid extraction column, is studied where SiO2 nanoparticles with concentrations of 0.01, 0.05 and 0.1vol.% and different hydrophobicities are applied to the dispersed phase. Using ultrasonication, nanoparticles were dispersed in kerosene as the base fluid. Nanofluids' stability was ensured using a UV-vis spectrophotometer. Some 22,000 droplets were measured by photographic technique and results were compared with systems containing no-nanoparticles (Water-Acetic acid-Kerosene). Addition of nanoparticles changed the droplet shape from ellipsoidal to spherical. Also, there was a marked influence on droplet breakage and...

    Abstract
We demonstrated a novel mixed-matrix composite membrane (MMCM) based on acrylated polyurethane (APU) and UiO-66 nanoparticles to separate CO 2 /N 2 mixture. UiO-66 and functionalized UiO-66 including NH 2 -UiO-66 and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)-UiO-66 were loaded into APU/2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (APUH) matrix at variable concentrations between 3 and 30 wt %. APUH/GMA-UiO-66 MMCMs exhibited strong adhesion with a support layer of polyester/polysulfone, which was not deteriorated after immersion in water for a long time (20 days). Incorporation of UiO-66 and its functionalized forms increased simultaneously permeability and CO 2 /N 2 selectivity, which were indeed superior in comparison...
