Electrodeposition of Graphene-Ni-Mo Coating on Titanium Substrate

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Arjang, Masomeh (Author) ; Afshar, Abdollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, linear polarization resistance (LPR) of cathodic pulse electrodeposited graphene- Nickel-Molybdenum coating is optimized by design of experiments approach (central composite design). Applied current density (i), cathodic pulse durations (Ton) and total electrodeposition time (Ttotal) are selected as the substantial factors. The best prediction model proposes a definitive linear relation without any significant interaction of the LPR by analysis of variance. The best value of LPR is achieved equal to 1406KΩ.cm2, obtaining at i of 137.5 A/cm2, Ton of 45.5 ms and Ttotal equal to 315 s. Polarization test is carried out to determine corrosion behavior of the coating. It shows...

Loading Pattern and Spatial Distribution of Wind Load and Comparison of Wind and Earthquake Effects along the Height of Tall Buildings

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nikbakht, Hamed (Author) ; Bakhshi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the ongoing research project on tall buildings, the study of wind-induced demands is categorized as: along-wind and crosswind responses. These demands are caused by different mechanisms. Moving along the wind-induced is due to the effects of turbulence impact while the perpendicular component is related to the effects of windstorm. Along-wind response may be of special importance with respect to the comfort criteria. The loading condition on skyscrapers may differ from low-rise buildings due to the number of stories, on structures due to the high number of stories, and the importance of dynamic effects of current loading (wind). On the other hand the effect of wind load on tall structures...

Facilitating the Use of Photovoltaic Renewable Energy Sources Using Demand Response Taking into Account Uncertainty in Real Time Market Prices

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nikbakht Dastjerdi, Mohammad (Author) ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the expansion of the use of renewable photovoltaic sources in electricity generation, the problem of uncertainty in predicting the production capacity of these sources has become one of the most important challenges of power networks due to dependence on climatic conditions, which is a random and uncertain phenomenon. Eliminating or reducing the stated problem requires economic policies that hold the producers of these resources accountable for deviating from the promised products in the day-ahead market. This thesis, the first place, proposes a fuzzy-neural prediction method with minimal input information considering the speed and accuracy of the prediction, which reduces the...

Selection, Competition, and Coordination in a Triple-Channel Supply Chain

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nikbakht, Arjang (Author) ; Najmi, Manoochehr (Supervisor) ; Talebian, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis’s problem is how a manufacturer should select distribution channels and how to interact with the selected ones. The acquired model, analyzes strategies of the manufacturer regarding selecting distribution channels and coordinating contracts for a triple-channel supply chain environment. The aforementioned channels are physical, electronical, and direct. It is assumed that manufacturer is the Stackelberg leader and the physical channel is the electronical’s follower. Four scenarios are introduced to analyze players’ interactions through contracts. Horizontal competition with Stackelberg game is present in first three scenarios. The forth scenario obtains the maximum total profit...

Comparison of nonlinear behavior of steel moment frames accompanied with RC shear walls or steel bracings

    , Article Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings ; Volume 22, Issue 14 , 2013 , Pages 1062-1074 ; 15417794 (ISSN) Esmaeili, H ; Kheyroddin, A ; Kafi, M. A ; Nikbakht, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this paper, the seismic behavior of dual structural systems in forms of steel moment-resisting frames accompanied with reinforced concrete shear walls and steel moment-resisting frames accompanied with concentrically braced frames, have been studied. The nonlinear behavior of the mentioned structural systems has been evaluated as, in earthquakes, structures usually enter into an inelastic behavior stage and, hence, the applied energy to the structures will be dissipated. As a result, some parameters such as ductility factor of structure (μ), over-strength factor (Rs) and response modification factor (R) for the mentioned structures have been under assessment. To achieve these objectives,...

Implementation of the eXtended finite element method (X-FEM) in frictional contact problems

    , Article MATERIALS PROCESSING AND DESIGN; Modeling, Simulation and Applications - NUMIFORM '07: 9th International Conference on Numerical Methods in Industrial Forming Processes, Porto, 17 June 2007 through 21 June 2007 ; Volume 908 , 2007 , Pages 1573-1578 ; 0094243X (ISSN) Khoei, A. R ; Anahid, M ; Yadegaran, I ; Nikbakht, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Numerical modeling of engineering contact problems is one of the most difficult and demanding tasks in computational mechanics. In this paper, the extended finite element method is employed to simulate the presence of discontinuities caused by frictional contact based on the penalty approach. The FEM approximation is enriched by applying additional terms to simulate the frictional behavior of contact between two bodies. The penalty method, which is one of the most commonly used techniques for contact problems, is used to model the penetration between two contacting boundaries and the normal contact force is related to the penetration by a penalty parameter. Finally, numerical examples are...

Cosmic Inflation with Random Stairlike Potentials and Primordial Black Holes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nikbakht, Bahar (Author) ; Abolhasani, Ali Akbar (Supervisor) ; Khosravi, Nima (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Primordial black holes have attracted attention because of their possible role in explaining phenomena such as dark matter and gravitational waves. These observations require the primordial black holes to be in different mass ranges. We investigated the inflaton potentials in which the stochastic sequence of sharp step-like features on the slow-roll potential can produce primordial black holes in different mass ranges. To this end, we first studied the cumulative effects of consecutive steps and showed that there is a resonance mechanism that leads to an exponential enhancement of the power spectrum of certain wavelengths.

Structure of human errors in tasks of operators working in the control room of an oil refinery unit

    , Article Indian Journal of Science and Technology ; Volume 5, Issue 2 , Feb , 2012 , Pages 2065-2070 ; 09746846 (ISSN) Gholi Nejad, N. S ; Jafari, M. J ; Ghalehnoi, M ; Mehrabi, Y ; Ghadiri, M ; Nikbakht, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In the present research, human errors existed in tasks of operators working in two control rooms (Northern and Southern control rooms) in the Tehran oil refinery are identified and evaluated. Then, corrective strategies and actions are advised to decrease errors. At first, using hierarchical task analysis (HTA) method, four positions including shift controller, head operators, control room's operators, and outside operators are analyzed. Afterwards, human errors in the considered positions are identified and assessed using technique for retrospective and predictive analysis of cognitive errors (TRACEr). Results present 670 internal errors and 738 external errors in the Northern sector while...
