Correlation between surface stochastic parameters and field emission property of NiO nanorods

    , Article Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics ; Vol. 47, Issue. 11 , 2014 ; ISSN: 00223727 Ebrahimi, M ; Qorbani, M ; Bayat, A ; Zavarian, A. A ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this research, nickel thin films have been deposited on Si (1 0 0) substrate using the dc sputtering method. Then, the deposited layers were annealed in different temperatures to oxidize and crystallize the as prepared layers. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis indicated that the nanorod shape of the nickel oxides has grown on the substrate and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy determined the formation of stoichiometric NiO on the surface. Field emission (FE) measurements of the NiO nanorods exhibited the lowest turn-on electric field at about 3.8 V μm-1 in the 300 μm vacuum gap. Moreover, the field enhancement factor (β) was measured of about 4109 for this sample. The FE...

Optimal Ag2S nanoparticle incorporated TiO2 nanotube array for visible water splitting

    , Article RSC Advances ; Volume 4, Issue 15 , 2014 , Pages 7838-7844 ; ISSN: 20462069 Gholami, M ; Qorbani, M ; Moradlou, O ; Naseri, N ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Free-standing TiO2 nanotube array (TNA) films were fabricated via two-step anodization of a titanium sheet. The X-ray diffraction pattern indicated amorphous TNAs were transformed into anatase after annealing the films at 500 °C in air. The surface of TNA was modified by a sequential-chemical bath deposition (S-CBD) method to fabricate Ag2S nanoparticles and forming TNA/Ag2S-n nanostructure, by varying the number of cycles (n). Based on SEM observations, the produced films consisted of vertically ordered tubular structure arrays, each with 125 nm in diameter and 4.1 μm in length containing silver sulphide nanoparticles of ∼12 nm diameter. X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the...

To what extent can surface morphology influence the photoelectrochemical performance of Au:WO3 electrodes?

    Abstract
Considering hydrogen as a future fuel, development of clean energy sources based on solar power is the main human challenge in recent years. Here, for the first time, Au:WO3 photoanodes are synthesized with different Au concentrations and then applied for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. A comprehensive statistical study on the prepared photoanode surface is conducted to understand the correlation between surface morphology and PEC activity, using atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results clearly justified the maximum surface area observed for the film containing 1 mol % Au. Additionally, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis determined that Au nanocrystals have been formed in cubic...

    Abstract
Energy and environment crises motivated scientists to develop sustainable, renewable, and clean energy resources mainly based on solar hydrogen. For this purpose, one main challenge is the low cost flexible substrates for designing earth abundant efficient cocatalysts to reduce required water oxidation overpotential. Here, a systematic morphological and electrochemical study has been reported for cobalt oxide/hydroxide nanoflakes simply electrodeposited on four different commercially available substrates, titanium, copper sheet, steel mesh, and nickel foam. Remarkable dependence between the used substrate, morphology, and electrocatalytic properties of nanoflakes introduced flexible porous...

A stable and high-energy hybrid supercapacitor using porous Cu2O-Cu1.8S nanowire arrays

    , Article Journal of Materials Chemistry A ; Volume 8, Issue 4 , 2020 , Pages 1920-1928 Esfandiar, A ; Qorbani, M ; Shown, I ; Ojaghi Dogahe, B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A three-dimensional electrode based on porous Cu2O-Cu1.8S nanowires is prepared by means of a facile fabrication process. In this electrode, nanowires are decorated with Cu1.8S polyhedral nanostructures on the top, which are directly grown on a copper foam, thereby eliminating the need for a polymer binder. As an electrochemical electrode, it exhibits an extrinsic pseudocapacitive charge storage mechanism, which is different from that of battery-like Cu2O-CuO and Cu(OH)2 electrodes. The areal and volumetric capacitances of the Cu2O-Cu1.8S electrode can reach 2.6 F cm-2 and ∼200 F cm-3, respectively, at 2 mA cm-2, which are much higher than those obtained using copper(i, ii) oxide and...

    Abstract
Although fluctuations in the waiting time series have been studied for a long time, some important issues such as its long-range memory and its stochastic features in the presence of nonstationarity have so far remained unstudied. Here we find that the "waiting times" series for a given increment level have long-range correlations with Hurst exponents belonging to the interval 1/2

    Abstract
Although hematite (i.e., α-Fe2O3) has been widely investigated in photoelectrochemical water oxidation studies due to its high theoretical photocurrent density, it still suffers from serious surface charge recombination and low photoelectrochemical stability. Here we report an in situ electrochemical method to form a uniform and ultrathin (i.e., 3-5 nm) passivation layer all over the pores of an optimized ∼3.2% Ti-doped α-Fe2O3 photoanode. We unveil the amorphous and defective nature of the in situ derived layer assigned to a high concentration of oxygen vacancies and intercalated potassium atoms there, i.e., the formation of Ti/K co-doped defective α-Fe2O3−x. Owing to the efficient...

    Abstract
Being the second-largest country in the Middle East, Iran has a long history of civilisation during which several dynasties have been overthrown and established and health-related structures have been reorganised. Iran has had the replacement of traditional practices with modern medical treatments, emergence of multiple pioneer scientists and physicians with great contributions to the advancement of science, environmental and ecological changes in addition to large-scale natural disasters, epidemics of multiple communicable diseases, and the shift towards non-communicable diseases in recent decades. Given the lessons learnt from political instabilities in the past centuries and the...

    Abstract
Background: Accurate childhood cancer burden data are crucial for resource planning and health policy prioritisation. Model-based estimates are necessary because cancer surveillance data are scarce or non-existent in many countries. Although global incidence and mortality estimates are available, there are no previous analyses of the global burden of childhood cancer represented in disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs). Methods: Using the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2017 methodology, childhood (ages 0–19 years) cancer mortality was estimated by use of vital registration system data, verbal autopsy data, and population-based cancer registry incidence...

    Abstract
Background: Comprehensive and comparable estimates of health spending in each country are a key input for health policy and planning, and are necessary to support the achievement of national and international health goals. Previous studies have tracked past and projected future health spending until 2040 and shown that, with economic development, countries tend to spend more on health per capita, with a decreasing share of spending from development assistance and out-of-pocket sources. We aimed to characterise the past, present, and predicted future of global health spending, with an emphasis on equity in spending across countries. Methods: We estimated domestic health spending for 195...
