Aircraft Drag Determination in Frequency Domain Using Parametric Identification Methods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ramezani Dehaghi, Hassan (Author) ; Banazadeh, Afshin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Determination of drag force is one of the most difficult activities in the design and development of an aircraft. Accurate estimation of drag force is very important in design studies and needs to be estimated over and over during the design trade-offs. Importance of the determination of drag force, from the performance viewpoint, is an important stage in development and evaluation of an aircraft behavior and if the thrust and drag forces are well determined, the other performance characteristics could be easily estimated. Different methods are introduced for determination of drag using flight test or system identification methods in the time domain owing some limitations, disadvantages or...

Evaluation and Analysis of Traffic Headway Characteristics on Rural Freeways

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirzarazi Dehaghi, Ehsan (Author) ; Nassiri, Habibollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Vehicle headway distribution plays an important role in various traffic engineering aspects such as capacity and level of service analysis and simulation issues. Although many headway models have been developed over the past decades, few have investigated the effects of vehicle’s type and its position in the traffic lanes on headway distributions. In this research, time headway data were collected at three different freeways using video camera. The collected data were analyzed and modeled for four different categories (i.e., car-car, car-truck, truck-car, and truck-truck) and under two traffic conditions of platooning and non-platoonig. Four types of probability distribution functions of...

The kautz mesh: a new topology for SoCs

    Abstract
Nowadays networks-on-chip are emerging as a hot topic in IC designs with high integration. In addition to popular mesh topologies, other structures can also be considered especially in 3D VLSI design. The Kautz topology is one of the interconnection architectures for multiprocessors. In this paper we propose an efficient three dimensional layout for a novel 2D mesh structure based on the Kautz topology. Simulation results show that by using the third dimension, performance and latency can be improved compared to the 2D VLSI implementation. ©2008 IEEE

The 2D digraph-based NoCs: Attractive alternatives to the 2D mesh NoCs

    Abstract
This paper proposes two-dimensional directed graphs (or digraphs for short) as a promising alternative to the popular 2D mesh topology for networks-onchip (NoCs). Mesh is the most popular topology for the NoCs, mainly due to its suitability for on-chip implementation and low cost. However, the fact that a digraph offers a lower diameter than its equivalent linear array of equal cost motivated us to evaluate digraphs as the underlying topology of NoCs. This paper introduces a family of NoC topologies based on three well-known digraphs, namely de Bruijn, shuffleexchange, and Kautz. We study topological properties of the proposed topologies. We show that the proposed digraph-based topologies...

    Abstract
In this paper, a 2D shuffle-exchange based mesh topology, or 2D shuffle-exchange mesh (SEM) for short, is presented for network-on-chips. The proposed 2D topology applies the conventional well-known shuffle-exchange structure in each row and each column of the network. Compared to an equal sized mesh which is the most common topology in on-chip networks, the proposed shuffle-exchange based mesh network has smaller diameter but for an equal cost. Finally for better performance cross-shuffle is proposed. Simulation results show that the 2D SEM and 2D cross-shuffle effectively reduce the power consumption and improve performance metrics of the on-chip networks compared to the conventional mesh...

    Abstract
During the recent years, 2D mesh network-onchip has attracted much attention due to its suitability for VLSI implementation. The 2-dimensional de Bruijn topology for network-on-chip is introduced in this paper as an attractive alternative to the popular simple 2D mesh NoC. Its cost is equal to that of the simple 2D mesh but it has a logarithmic diameter. We compare the proposed network and the popular mesh network in terms of power consumption and network performance. Compared to the equal sized simple mesh NoC, the proposed de Bruijn-based network has better performance while consuming less energy. © 2008 IEEE

    Abstract
Since oil reservoirs are limited and energy demand is increasing, seeking for high efficient EOR processes or enhancing the efficiency of current proposed EOR methods for producing trapped oil from reservoirs are highly investigated. As a way out, it is possible to couple the EOR and nanotechnology to utilize the efficiency of both methods together. Regarding this possibility, in the present study, in the first stage of investigation stable and uniform water-based solution of nano-sized particles of copper oxide with different concentrations (0.01–0.05 M) were prepared and then injected into the core samples. In the first stage, the effects of different surfactants with respect to their...

Inactivation methods for whole influenza vaccine production

    Abstract
Despite tremendous efforts toward vaccination, influenza remains an ongoing global threat. The induction of strain-specific neutralizing antibody responses is a common phenomenon during vaccination with the current inactivated influenza vaccines, so the protective effect of these vaccines is mostly strain-specific. There is an essential need for the development of next-generation vaccines, with a broad range of immunogenicity against antigenically drifted or shifted influenza viruses. Here, we evaluate the potential of whole inactivated vaccines, based on chemical and physical methods, as well as new approaches to generate cross-protective immune responses. We also consider the mechanisms by...

    , Article IET Communications ; July 2011, Volume 5, Issue 10, P. 1328-1335 Mashhadi, S. (Saeed) ; Mashhadi, Saeed ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study the authors present an in-depth study, analysis and discussion on maximum likelihood (ML)-based receiver for a typical spectrally encoded spread-time CDMA in the presence of multiple narrowband interference (NBI) signals in an additive white Gaussian noise channel. Furthermore, the authors demonstrate that by combining useful properties of ML-based receiver and three-level codes, that is, codes with values of -1, 0, +1, the authors can introduce a new strategy in which superior performance with respect to previous receiver structure based on two-level codes, that is, codes with values of -1, +1, can be attained. With the help of an example, the authors drive, first, the...

Investigation of Multiphase Flow in Oil Wells (with Focus on Two Phase Flow), Flow Pattern Recognition and Modeling

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shams, Reza (Author) ; Shad, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The concurrent flow of oil and water is a common occurrence in the field of multiphase flow in different fields including petroleum industry. In oil and gas, production engineers often face a situation in which more than one phase is flowing through the producers. In such conditions an accurate assessment of pressure loss inside the well plays a vital role in efficient and effective production planning. Changes in well orientation, wellbore diameter, reservoir and fluid properties as well as fluid flow rates are among parameters in which will affect the flow patterns that can occur inside a well during its life time. These flow patterns are created as a result of a competition between...

Casing Design Optimization Considering Drilling and Production Conditions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghi, Mahdi (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Shad, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Casing design is one of the most expensive parts in the drilling of oil wells, and any cost reduction with the basic design of these casing strings will significantly reduce the total cost of the operation. In recent years, occurring scenarios-based casing design has become popular; Because in many cases, it eliminates non-occurring scenarios such as gas kick and saves on drilling costs. In this study, we have tried to investigate all scenarios that may occur during the lifetime of the well, whether drilling or production, and for each well, based on its own field information, possible scenarios for each casing part are selected separately and the applying loads are calculated. For this...

PRI (Palm Rotation Indicator): a metric for postural stability in dynamic nonprehensile manipulation [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of MECHANIKA ; 2012, Vol. 18, No. 4, pp. 461-466 Beigzadeh, B. (Borhan) ; Meghdar, Ali ; Sohrabpour, Saeed ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, we discuss the postural stability of a nonprehensile manipulation problem, which deals with multibody objects. As a metric for postural stability, we define PRI. Then, the system is posturally stable, if PRI is inside the convex hull of the object-manipulator contact surface. We then discuss that dynamic biped locomotion is a special case of dynamic nonprehensile manipulation in all aspects; we prove that ZMP (zero-moment point) and FRI (zoot rotation indicator) are special cases of PRI (palm rotation indicator). Simulations and experiments corresponding to simple examples support the results
