Effective Implementation of Image Reconstruction Algorithm in Millimeter Wave Imaging

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seyyed Talebi, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Shabany, Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Kavehvash, Zahra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays active Millimeter Wave Imaging Systems are used in verity of medical and security applications. This widespread application re- sults from the intrinsic characteristic of electromagnetic waves in this rang of frequency that can penetrate through interior body structures and clothing with- out bringing harmful ionizing efects to the body. Millimeterwave systems can be very high resolution due to the relatively short wavelength. The current state-of-the-art in active millimeter-wave imaging systems use a set of transmit/receive antennae. The transmitter antennae illuminated the intended person with millimeter waves while the back scattered signal is recorded by the receiver antennae....

Dynamic behavior Analysis of a Swirl Burner using Recurrence Plotting Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Mohammad Sadegh (Author) ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation, based on the method of recurrence plot and its application in dynamic system analysis we examine the behavior and dynamic analysis of a swirl burner. Though retrospective studies on thermoacoustic instability have been performed on single-blown premixed cone shape flames and several combustion systems but so far this method has not been considered for a real combustion system. There have also been more work on phenomena known as the flame separation from the burner (blowout) and its propagation into the burner (flashback), which is almost conscious of their process. In fact, selecting a single flame has been to eliminate the flame-flame interactions in the...

    Abstract
Buckling-Restrained Braced Frame system (BRBFs) are a new type of steel seismic-load-resisting system that has found use in several countries because of its efficiency and its promise of seismic performance far superior to that of conventional braced frames. The system is addressed in the 2005 edition of the AISC Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings, also a set of design provisions has been developed by NEHRP. This thesis illustrates the seismic design of buckling-restrained braced frames and compares its seismic performance with the performance of ordinary bracing systems. This work investigates the advantage and disadvantages of this new type of seismic resisting. By having...

Experimental Investigation of Pressure Distribution on the Surface of a Supercritical Airfoil in Transonic Regime

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Masoud (Author) ; Soltani, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Transonic flow study is important due to its vast applications. Supercritical airfoils are designed for transonic flow to postpone drag divergence and reduce the strength of shock. This type of airfoils are chiefly used in modern commercial airplanes because of their low drag in transonic regime and, as a result, reduction in their fuel consumption. Using supercritical airfoils needs accurate investigation of flow field due to several influential factors such as specific geometry, nonlinear nature of flow phenomena, and compressibility effects. However, the availability of experimental and numerical data for supercritical airfoils is less than that of the conventional ones. Thus,...

Retrofitting of Existing Steel Frames using Ductile Bracing Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seyyed Farizani, Sarah (Author) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recent earthquakes indicate the importance of retrofitting existing structures to achieve an acceptable level of performance. Use of bracing systems is a cost-effective method for seismic retrofitting of existing steel frames. In particular, Buckling Restrained Braces (BRBs) and Special Concentrically Bracing systems (SCB) are practical choices to be used because of their large energy dissipation capacity especially under moderate to severe earthquakes. Buckling restrained braces which yield in both tension and compression, exhibits stable and predictable hysteretic behavior. In this study several existing steel frames, which are designed based on older versions of the building codes, have...

Investigation on Using Fresnel Lens in Human Eye

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Eskandari, Mohammad Amin (Author) ; Seyyed Reihani, Nader (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Human eye is one of the most important organs of the human body. Performance of the eye may be decreased by some anomalies such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, cataract, glaucoma, etc. There are variety of techniques to treat eye anomalies including surgery, using optical elements and training methods. The easiest way of treating refractive errors of the eye, is to use optical elements such as contact lenses, intraocular lenses and glasses. In the case of cataract, Crystalline lens loses its opacity and should be replaced by artificial lens. The best choice is Fresnel lens which has lower weight and thickness than refractive lenses.Fresnel lens is a diffractive optical element which uses...

Inventory-Routing Problem with Roaming Delivery Locations

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Masoumeh (Author) ; Akbari Jokar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many researches in the literature have emphasized on the combination of different supply chain decisions in order to reduce the overall costs of the system. On the other hand, the advancement of technology and the necessities of modern life have created conditions that expect more realistic assumptions that are in line with these conditions to be considered in supply chain problems. One of these assumptions is the mobility of the customer's location during the planning period, which is discussed in this research. In other words, in this research, a single-period single-item inventory routing problem is considered with roaming delivery locations. In fact, in this research, a mathematical...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Beygian, Narges (Author) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor) ; Talebi, Majid (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The event of the loss of off-site power (loop) is one of the nuclear power plant accidents which, if occurred, in worst case , the main generator will be stopped after a short time after beginning of the accident and AC feed of the power plant loads such as safety systems and main pumps of primary circuit will be interrupted . In order to control the event, it is necessary to start the emergency diesel generators, at least for one of safety channels. If the diesel generators are not started or not loaded, the accident will advance, and it will be changed to station black-out (SBO). If the SBO occurs, due to non operation of residual heat removal systems (RHR), it may be result to melt the...

    Abstract
In this piece of work, a gravity model is suggested as Iranian non-fuel export model to OIC countries. The most important results out of this model are the acquired coefficients of two variables, namely “ECO membership” and “Economic and Trade Freedom of Importer”. At first, we expected that for importer, being a member of ECO would increase the amount of trade with iran. Surprisingly, this is not what we see in a model. In fact, as ECO has not achieved any tangible success in increasing trade between its members, eastern Asian Muslim countries has become an important trade partner for iranians. This result is compatible with other pieces of researches about ECO. “Economic and Trade Freedom...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamali, Mohammad Vahid (Author) ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today’s growing interest to the underwater explorations and navigations demands to design appropriate underwater communication methods and systems. However, radio frequencies which are widely being used in free space communications, can’t be a good candidate for underwater wireless communications, due to their sever attenuation in water. On the other hand, underwater acoustic communication has been widely studied and implemented in the past decades, inspired by suitable propagation of acoustic waves through the underwater medium. Nevertheless, acoustic communication systems have limited bandwidth, lower propagation speed and lower security than optical counterparts, which suggests underwater...

Mobility-Aware Resource Allocation in Hybrid Visible Light Communication and 5G Radio Access Technologies Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Dastgheib, Mohammad Amir (Author) ; Salehi, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Visible light communication (VLC) uses huge license-free spectral bandwidth of visible light for high-speed wireless communication. Since each VLC access point covers a small area, handovers of mobile users are inevitable. In order to deal with these handovers, developing fast and effective resource allocation algorithms is a challenge. this paper introduces the problem of mobility-aware optimization of resources in hybrid VLC and 5G radio access technologies networks using the T-step look-ahead policy and employing the notion of handover efficiency. It is shown that the handover efficiency can correlate the overall performance of the network with future actions based on the mobility of...

    Abstract
Lithium has 9 isotopes which two isotopes are stable and remaining isotopes are unstable and have half-life. Lithium stable isotopes include 6Li and 7Li that their abundance is 7.53% and 92.47% respectively. Importance of lighter lithium isotope appears for its small cross section against thermal neutron and producing fusion reactors fuel in nuclear industries. Thermal neutron absorption cross section for 6Li and 7Li are 950 barn and 37 mbarn respectively. Interesting of these isotopes in nuclear industry is due to the large difference in the absorption cross section.6Li compounds implied for tritium producing in coat of nuclear fusion reactor with DT fuel. Following tritium is used in...

Study and Preparation of the Modified Nanostructure Carbon Electrode for Capacitive Deionization (CDI) Process

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Majid (Author) ; Ahadian, Mohammad Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays capacitive deionization (CDI) has attracted a lot of attention for water treatment. CDI is an emerging water treatment technology that uses electrophoretic driving forces for desalination of water. During the CDI process, ions are adsorbed onto the surface of electrodes by applying a low voltage electric field (DC<2V). In addition, the regeneration of the electrodes contains desorption of the electrosorbed ions from the surface of the electrodes to the water in the absence of the applied electric field. In the mechanism of CDI, separation and accumulation of ions in the electric field are the main processes and no additional chemicals are required in this technology. Therein,...
