    Following inadequate performance of bridges during the past earthquakes, serious attention has been drawn to evaluation of seismic vulnerability of existing bridges and retrofit measures. This research surveys seismic performance of existing bridges according to the latest manual for seismic rehabilitation of highway bridges in America (FHWA2006). This manual introduces six different methods which vary considerably in sophistication, rigor and applicability.     In this work we propose using heterogeneous interconnects in power-aware chip multiprocessors (also referred to as Helia). Helia improves energy efficiency in snoop-based chip multiprocessors as it eliminates unnecessary activities in both interconnect and cache. This is achieved by using innovative snoop filtering mechanisms coupled with wire management techniques. Our optimizations rely on the observation that a high percentage of cache mismatches could be detected by utilizing a small subset but highly informative portion of the tag bits.     Effects of both electron beam irradiation on the properties of polypropylene (PP) films and the irradiation on the different layers of a multilayer PP film are studied. A Fourier transform infrared spectroscope was used to investigate the chemical structure of the films. The results showed that the chemical properties of the first layer were improved, that is, more functional groups responsible for dye ability and hydrophilicity of the film were produced on its surface, while noticeable improvement was not detected on the surface of other layers.     Low temperature plasma (LTP) is nowadays an intensively investigated superficial treatment of wool. In this work we have investigated the effect of LTP on wool fabric under different conditions. The effect of the position of samples inside the reactor and the kind of gases used as discharge medium has been also investigated. The results show that not only the topography of the surface is modified but also the chemical composition of the surface. It is shown that the hydrophilicity of the samples and also their shrink resistance and anti-felting behavior have improved significantly under LTP treatment.     Standing-wave ultrasonic motors are a modern class of positioning systems, which are used to deliver a high precision linear or rotary motion with an unlimited stroke. The design process should be performed through an effective optimization algorithm in order to guaranty proper and efficient function of these motors.     In this article, we have studied the properties (especially water repellency) of cotton coated by a thin layer of aluminum. The process has been performed in a low temperature plasma medium, using a magnetron sputtering device. We have also investigated the effect of different gases such as argon and oxygen as the discharge medium on the properties of the obtained samples. The results which are exposure time dependent show a good repellent property for 30 min of treating in argon medium under the condition of our experiment.     Abstract
    In this work, the silver particle absorption and antibacterial activity of cotton fabric when modified by low temperature plasma were investigated. The modification consisted of plasma pre-functionalization followed by one-step wet treatment with silver nitrate solution. Oxygen and nitrogen were used as the working gases in the system, and the results were compared. The results showed that nitrogen plasma-treated samples can absorb more silver particles than oxygen-treated samples, and thus the antibacterial activity of the samples in this case, which was analyzed by the counting bacteria test, was increased considerably
