Abstract
The mechanism of gold nanowire (AuNW) and nanotube (AuNT) electrodeposition in a cyanide-free solution is investigated for the first time based on the analytical model of Szabo et al. (A. Szabo et al., J. Electroanal. Chem. 217 (1987) 417) for recessed cylindrical ultramicroelectrode (UME). Track-etched Polycarbonate Template (PCT) is served as cylindrical UME ensemble/arrays. Firstly, Au is nucleated through a charge transfer step and when the Nernst thickness exceeds the pore length, the radial diffusion is established around pore mouths. By overlapping of these domains, the planar diffusion toward the whole PCT surface is obtained. An analytic expression for global diffusion coefficient...

Abstract
The separation of water-oil mixtures has attracted widespread attention because of the increasing amounts of oily wastewater produced from the daily activities of humans and different industrial processes. Therefore, the development of facile and efficient oil-water separation technologies is imperative. In this work, a new highly superhydrophilic-superoleophobic coated stainless steel mesh was fabricated using virtue of the surface modification of poly (BzVimBr-Vim)@PFOA@SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) through a facile preparation process. The new fabricated superhydrophilic and highly oleophobic coating exhibits good adhesive properties. The oil contact angle (OCA) and water contact angle (WCA)...
Gold and Gold-Nickel Pulse Electrodeposition
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years use of expensive metals plating has taken much interest from decorative state to industry trends. In this research the effect of pulse plating on the structure and properties of pure gold and gold-nickel has been studied. In case of pure gold pulse plating from cyanide bath, it was shown that current efficiency increased by increasing duty cycle up to 30% and decreased, afterwards. By increasing frequency from 1 to 150 Hz current efficiency decreased. By reducing the level of frequency, average grain size was increased, owing to the occurrence of recrystallization. An increase in the value of current density was also shown to be responsible for a reduction in current...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Hexavalent chromium ions (Cr(VI)) is one of the most dangerous heavy ions for the environment, humans and other living organisms. Hence, finding new ways to determine and reduction to the much less toxic trivalent chromium (Cr(III)) is highly important. In this thesis, electrochemical and photoelectrochemical methods have been employed for the direct detection and reduction of Cr (VI). For this purpose, the indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode decorated with gold-palladium bimetallic nanoparticles (AuPd) was used for the determination and reduction of Cr(VI) via electrochemical route. These AuPd decorated electrodes exhibited a wide linear concentration range of 0.001-100 µM, a very low...

Abstract
Oriented ZnO nanorods were grown directly on fluorine doped tin oxide substrates by a single bath electrodeposition process. A pulse potential at the beginning of growth improved the density and orientation of the nanorods. Pulse potential grown ZnO nanorod films showed better harvesting of visible light and enhanced the light driven water splitting performance in comparison to nanorods grown without any pulse potential. To further improve the water splitting activity, the nanorods were decorated with gold–palladium nanoparticles by sputtering. This caused visible light absorption to increase due to a plasmonic effect and the photoelectrochemical water splitting performance to further...

Abstract
LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NCM811) has been considered as a promising cathode for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high electrochemical capacity and low cost; however, poor cycling stability is one of the main restricting factors in industrial applications of the NCM811 cathode material. Notably, the capacity fading and low structural stability of NCM811 are intensified at elevated temperatures. ZrO2- and composite rGO-ZrO2-coated NCM811 were fabricated by a facile wet chemical method and evaluated at 25 and 55 °C to overcome these impediments. The ZrO2 coating provides superior cycling and thermal stability and perfectly protects the cathode active material from deleterious side reactions, and...

Abstract
In this study, failure of a high pressure economizer tube of a boiler used in gas-Mazut combined cycle power plants was studied. Failure analysis of the tube was accomplished by taking into account visual inspection, thickness measurement, and hardness testing as well as microstructural observations using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Optical microscopy images indicate that there is no phase transformation during service, and ferrite-pearlite remained. The results of XRD also revealed Iron sulfate (FeSO4) and Iron hydroxide sulfate (FeOH(SO4)) phases formed on the steel surface. A considerable amount of Sulfur was also...

Abstract
In-situ deposition of cupric oxide (CuO) thin films on fluorine-doped tin oxide is performed through a rapid microwave-assisted method. The duration of microwave (MW) irradiation is optimized in order to prepare efficient and stable photocathodes for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. We obtain CuO with a unique morphology consisted of intermingled nanosheets. We evaluate PEC performance of the photocathodes through Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) and current stability analyses. The highest achieved photocurrent density is -1.15 mA.cm-2 at 0 V vs. RHE for the sample MW-irradiated for 60 min. This value is comparable or superior to several other CuO-based photocathodes prepared by...

Abstract
Enhancing stability against photocorrosion and improving photocurrent response are the main challenges toward the development of cupric oxide (CuO) based photocathodes for solar-driven hydrogen production. In this paper, stable and efficient CuO-photocathodes have been developed using in situ materials engineering and through gold-palladium (Au-Pd) nanoparticles deposition on the CuO surface. The CuO photocathode exhibits a photocurrent generation of ∼3 mA/cm2 at 0 V v/s RHE. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) analysis and X-ray spectroscopy (XPS) confirm the formation of oxygen-rich (O-rich) CuO film which demonstrates a highly stable photocathode with retained...

Abstract
Using interpolation and starting with Bernoulli numbers, posed by Leopold and Kubota, the aspect of adic function was constructed as adic analogues of the Dirichlet functions.Studing Galois module theory of ideal class group and his favorite structure extensions and modules related to them,Iwasawa found a new method for constructing adic functions by using Stickelberger’s elements. These results wich established by Iwasawa are known as Iwasawa Theory and they have many application in Algebriac Number Theory. Iwasawa’s most remarkable disconvry is the facet that at least in some important cases, there is a similar deep algebraic and analytic dichotomy in arithmetic of extensions. A...
The Evolution of a Geometric Space in in the Nineteenth Century
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Shahshahani, Siavash (Supervisor)
Abstract
The meaning and the nature of space and it’s essential properties seems to be one of the oldest problems which has been continuing to occupy human’s mind during centuries. It can be counted as a common ground between philosophy, mathematics, physics and even art. However this thesis concentrates on the philosophical and mathematical attitudes, neglecting the other aspects of the issue. Prima facie, it appears that the concept of space is essentially mingled with geometry, the science which seems to investigate the essentials of space. Taking it for granted, Kant regarded space, and so Euclidean geometry which dominates it, as an indispensible and necessary structure of the human’s mind....
