    Iteration Control in Design Process

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Soltan Mohammad, Bahram (Author) ; Malaek, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main goal of this research is to reduce aircraft design cycle period, by reducing the necessary number of design cycle iterations. The Design cycle period is one of the main characteristics of the design process and design cycle iterations play a major role in the design cycle period. To achieve the above mentioned goal, we present a mathematical model of iterations for the aircraft design process. This model describes the design coupled tasks as a discrete-linear time invariant dynamic system. This model also helps identify tasks which are the most important for generating iterations. This new method basically helps break information cycles that create iterations among important tasks....

Natural Language Generation from Visual Input

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rohanian, Mojtaba (Author) ; Vazirnezhad, Bahram (Supervisor) ; Bahrani, Mohammad (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Natural language generation is one of the burgeoning areas of Nautural Langauge Processing/Computational Linguistics in which the primary concern is to automatically generate sentences in human languages. Based on the type of the input they receive, NLG systems can be divided into two categories: text-to-text and data-to-text. Systems of the first type are usually a part of machine translation systems. The latter type, which is the subject of the current research, deals with language generation based on inputs other than raw text, such as databases, images, videos, audio and so on. This project is an attempt to create an image-to-text system. This is the first research on data-to-text NLG...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moradi, Mehdi (Author) ; Vazirnezhad, Bahram (Supervisor) ; Bahrani, Mohammad (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Putting human commonsense knowledge into computers has always been a long standing dream of artificial intelligence (AI). Since the first days of its appearance, AI knowledge engineers were studying hard to get round this bottleneck. The cost of several tens of millions of dollars and times have been covered so that the computers could know about “objects falling, not rising.”,” running is faster than walking" And “death is the end of the life”. The large database was built, automated and semi-automated methods were introduced and volunteers’ efforts were utilized to achieve this, but an automated, high-throughput and low-noise method for commonsense collection still remains as the holy...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Moradi, Siyamak (Author) ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor) ; Dabir, Bahram (Supervisor) ; Emadi, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nitrogen injection is a promising enhanced oil recovery process. Asphaltene precipitation during miscible gas injection is a common problem in oilfields throughout the world. In this work, a comprehensive study is conducted on effect of gas injection on phase behavior and asphaltene instability of live oil samples. Effects of oil API, gas type and concentration, pressure and temperature are studied under natural depletion and nitrogen injection processes by means of high pressure filtration and a photographic procedure coupled with image analysis. Filtration results show that nitrogen destabilizes asphaltenes more compared to methane and the problem is more severe for heavier crude samples....

For this purpose, firstly the macrocyclic ligand (Fig 3-1, L1) was synthesized and then was reacted with C60 (Fig 3-1, L2) of which the product was characterized by elemental analysis. Since the product was insoluble in any solvents, further study on its coordination chemistry was impossible. In a second procedure, the macrocyclic ligand was reacted with benzylbromide. The reaction mixture gave two macrocyclic ligands with different number of benzylic pendant groups (Fig 3-1, L3-L4). The products were separated by column...

Synthesis and Electrochemical Study of Endohedral Fullerenes Prepared by Arc Vaporizing Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Ali (Author) ; Ghanbari, Bahram (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Fullerenes are molecular solid materials which are composed of 3D closed shell carbon-only structure. As soon as mass production of fullerenes was performed, the synthesis and characterization of endohedral fullerenes having at least one non-carbon element in the hollow fullerene cage, was started (in which about 30 atoms inserted in it so far). Furthermore, because of low efficiency and purity of these nano-particles, nowadays characterization of fullerenes is one of the most important research fields. In this project, we firstly optimized the fullerene production parameters in an arc discharge reactor to reach convenient efficiency. Then, the synthesis of endohedral fullerene by vaporizing...

In the present study, the coordination chemistry of an O4N4-tetrabenza-crown ether macrocyclic ligand L1 with M2+ (M= Cu, Cd, Hg, and Pb) was investigated by employing UV-visible, 1H-NMR spectroscopy in their solutions. According to the association constants calculated by 1H-NMR titrations, the complex formation stability for these closed shell cations was found in a series of Pb > Hg > Cd, leading to the larger cation, the better accommodation with L1. Moreover, the supramolecular interaction of L1 with fullerene C60 was also assessed by UV-visible spectroscopy. Meanwhile, the structure of [Cd(1)]2+ complex was determine by X-ray crystallographic method in their solid state. A square...

Synthesis and Coordination Chemistry Study of NxO2 Aza-Crown Macrocycle Derivatives in Aqueous Solution

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moazez, Hedieh (Author) ; Ghanbari, Bahram (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, a water-soluble Aza-crown N2O2 ligand with a two-carboxylate side arm was synthesized and characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-vis, fluorescence, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. Unlike EDTA, this ligand is soluble in acidic solution. Fluorescence spectroscopy did not show significant selectivity except for calcium (and to some extent strontium) and copper cations. Due to the similarity of the aminocarboxylate groups with some chelating agents, the ability of this macrocyclic ligand as a scale inhibitor was investigated using the NACE-TM374 standard test method. In these tests, the new arm ligand showed significant protection against the presence of calcium sulfate....
