Planning for groundwater sustainable use: A case study in Nishapur Plain, Iran

    , Article Agricultural Water Management ; Volume 229 , 2020 Abrishamchi, A ; Khakbazan Fard, F ; Taghavi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
In Iran, due to arid and semi-arid climate, groundwater resources play an essential role in food production, as well as domestic and industrial water supply. In recent years, increasing population, scarcity of surface water resources, and effects of worldwide and regional climate change have resulted in over-exploitation and unsustainability of these resources in the country. The present study aims to estimate groundwater sustainable yield, examine effects of spatial and temporal scale, and propose a plan for groundwater sustainable use in Nishapur Plain, in the north-east of Iran. In investigating the effects of spatial scale, the area of the plain is divided into several zones, with...

The effect of oxidation of macroporous silicon on carbon nanotubes growth by TCVD method

    , Article Synthesis and Reactivity in Inorganic, Metal-Organic and Nano-Metal Chemistry ; Volume 37, Issue 6 , 2007 , Pages 489-492 ; 15533174 (ISSN) Mortazavi, S. Z ; Iraji zad, A ; Taghavi, N. S ; Reyhani, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown on deposited Ni on macroporous silicon by thermal chemical vapor deposition (TCVD) method using CH4 as the reaction gas. Macroporous silicon was fabricated by electrochemical etching of P-type silicon in organic electrolytes. The effect of oxidation of porous silicon (PS) on growth rate, morphology and structure of CNTs has been studied. The SEM micrographs and Raman spectra indicated that the nanotubes grown on the oxidized PS are more homogeneous and regular than those grown on the pristine PS and growth rate of CNTs grown on oxidized PS higher than those grown on pristine PS. In addition, the CNTs grown on the non-oxidized PS have different morphology...

Free energy for deformed Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity

    Abstract
In this paper, we study a particular deformation of the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity recently considered by Maxfield, Turiaci, and independently by Witten. We will compute the partition function of this model as well as its higher order correlators to all orders in genus expansion in the low temperature limit for small perturbations. In this limit, the results match with those obtained from the Airy limit of a Hermitian random matrix ensemble. Using this result, we will also study the free energy of the model. One observes that although the annealed free energy has pathological behaviors, under certain assumptions, the quenched free energy evaluated by replica trick exhibits the desired...

    Abstract
In this paper we propose, Spectral method to solve unsteady gas equation which is a nonlinear ordinary differential equation on semi-infinite interval. These approaches are based on Modified generalized Laguerre functions. These methods reduces the solution of this problem to the solution of systems of algebraic equations. We also compare this works with some other numerical results

Stochastic ensemble pruning method via simulated quenching walking

    , Article International Journal of Machine Learning and Cybernetics ; Volume 10, Issue 7 , 2019 , Pages 1875-1892 ; 18688071 (ISSN) Taghavi, Z. S ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Niknamfar, A. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer Verlag  2019
    Abstract
Inspired by an upward stochastic walking idea, a new ensemble pruning method called simulated quenching walking (SQWALKING) is developed in this paper. The rationale behind this method is to give values to stochastic movements as well as to accept unvalued solutions during the investigation of search spaces. SQWALKING incorporates simulated quenching and forward selection methods to choose the models through the ensemble using probabilistic steps. Two versions of SQWALKING are introduced based on two different evaluation measures; SQWALKINGA that is based on an accuracy measure and SQWALKINGH that is based on a human-like foresight measure. The main objective is to construct a proper...

Solving the P-Center Problem under Uncertainty

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taghavi, Majid (Author) ; Shavandi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Facility location decisions play a prominent role in strategic planning of many firms, companies and governmental organizations. Since in many real-world facility location problems, the data are subject to uncertainty, in this thesis, we consider the P-center problem under uncertainty of demand nodes. Using Bertsimas and Sim approach, we modeled the problem as a linear optimization model. Furthermore, we develop a tabu search algorithm to solve the problem. Finally we designed some experiments to adjust the parameters of tabu search algorithm. We presented the numerical result accordingly

On Feenberg’s Alternative Thinking About Virtual Space Technologies

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi, Morteza (Author) ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Cultural and social problems in the modern age have motivated many thinkers to analyze modernity. Some of them have tried to solve these problems and, if possible, prevent their occurrence in the future. Proposed solutions are mostly dystopian, i.e. by being disappointed, they think the only possible way to overcome these problems is to annihilate modern civilization, or they pursue a passive approach; i.e. they have accepted the problems of modernity but only seek a way to mitigate its challenges. Among these, solutions which try to make use of the capacities of the modern civilization, especially emerging technologies, are really scarce. These approaches seek to realize (and make...

Has "The Work and Technology Course" in the Elementary School and Guidance School Paid Enough Attention to Improve Technological Thinking?

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nafari, Hossein (Author) ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
It has been five years since the new education system was started, according to which fundamental changes have been applied to school text books. The mentioned changes in the text books are based on “the fundamental transformation document” and “Iran’s national educational curriculum”. In “Iran’s national educational curriculum”, eleven fields concerning pedagogy and learning are explicitly mentioned; one of these eleven fields is “training and learning work and technology”. One of the merits which has been stressed in this field, is “technological thinking”. Nowadays, methods of extending and reinforcing the technological thinking have come to be the subject of investigations in many...

APIS’ Evolution Comprehension Via Analyzing the Q&As in the Stack Overflow Website

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taghavi, Samira (Author) ; Heydarnoori, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Client applications are often developed with the help of software frameworks in order to reduce the development costs and to increase the software quality. However, frameworks may evolve to add new features or to fix bugs, and thus, their APIs may change at the same time. Nevertheless, these API changes can cause the client applications to not work properly. New frameworks typically use the deprecation mechanism to reduce this effect, but their documents often do not provide sufficient information. Consequently, deprecated APIs usages remain unresolved in client applications. To tackle this issue, we introduce ARFES (Automated Recommender of Framework Evolution Solutions) that provides...

Religious Science: Comparison of Golshani's and Javadi Amoli's Views

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fakheri, Marzieh (Author) ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Religious science, its nature, possibility, and the mechanism of achievement have come to the fore in recent years. In this thesis, Javadi Amoli’s and Golshani’s theories are compared in this respect. Javadi Amoli begins by situating the reason, and certain knowledge as its product, in the architecture of religious knowledge. Since this kind of knowledge unveils divine action, Amoli counts it as already divine in nature. Therefore, there would be no conflict between science and religion in principle, unless atheist scientists insist on drawing non-empirical conclusions from sciences. Other conflicts too are superficial and resolvable. Amoli sees the fault of current sciences, which should be...

Explaining the Concept of Civilization by using Theory of Constructive Perceptions with Emphasis on Knowledge and Technology as Components of Civilization

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tahani, Ali (Author) ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of writing this thesis is to arrive at the concept of civilization. And in this process, using the constructive perception. My approach in constructive perception is different with approach of Allameh tabatabaei in constructive perception. In first chapter defining constructive perception as the perception that mind by analogy between two consepts makes the non-real relations and attributes it deliberated to the reality (the parties). Meanwhile, should have been constructive perception is the intermediary that stimulation our sense abut reality. These feelings can be tenderness or hatred or fear and hope and ... . In the second chapter we will show that the use of technology...

Feyerabend’s Point of View on Scientific Progress

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yazdani, Homa (Author) ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Feyarabend’s philosophy of science is against method and rule such that he believes that “anything goes”. However, he sometimes applies the term “progress”. Reviewing his publications shows that from his point of view, progress is qualitative and relative. So, unlike other philosophers of science Feyarabend ignores the clarification of the concept; subsequently, his applications of the term “progress” are somewhat ambiguous. However, by studying his philosophy, one may realize what should be done to achieve progress in any sense. The affirmative aspect of Feyerabend’s philosophy, while highlights the social and ethical elements, considering his humanitarian outlook as well as his special...

The concept of Social Ethics and Its Relation to the Politics from Hobbes Point of View

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Karimi, Sasan (Author) ; Taghavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, I study the concept of social ethics from a modern point of view. What I call modernity, is the fundamental philosophical revolution happened in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in Europe, this period is called “Enlightenment”, what I assume is from Machiavelli to Kant. One of the most important philosophers belongs to this enlightenment period is Thomas Hobbes, a Scottish philosopher whose main book “Leviathan” is well-known as the basis of the modern politics. Modern politics makes sense against classical one, founded by Aristotle in a book mentioned under the same title. What Hobbes describes as society based on public interests etc. is in a different point of view...

A memory efficient algorithm for multi-dimensional wavelet transform based on lifting

    , Article 2003 IEEE International Conference on Accoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, Hong Kong, 6 April 2003 through 10 April 2003 ; Volume 6 , 2003 , Pages 401-404 ; 15206149 (ISSN) Taghavi, Z ; Kasaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
Conventional implementation of multi-dimensional wavelet transform (e.g. 3-D wavelet) requires whether a high amount of "in access" memory or a continual access to slow memory of a processor which makes it infeasible for most applications. In this paper, we proposed a novel algorithm for computation of an n-D discrete wavelet transform (DWT) based on lifting scheme. In addition to benefits of lifting scheme (which causes a major reduction in computational complexity and performs the total computations in time domain), our real-time approach computes the coefficients for all kinds of 1st and 2 nd generation wavelets with short delay and optimized utilization of the slow and fast memories of a...

Iterative multiuser receiver for coded MC-FH multiple access systems in the presence of partial-band interference

    , Article 2004 IEEE 60th Vehicular Technology Conference, VTC2004-Fall: Wireless Technologies for Global Security, Los Angeles, CA, 26 September 2004 through 29 September 2004 ; Volume 60, Issue 3 , 2004 , Pages 1899-1903 ; 15502252 (ISSN) Taghavi, Z ; Nasiri Kenari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
In this paper, we consider an iterative multiuser receiver for the coded MC-FH system, first introduced in [4], in the presence of partial-band interference. The structure of the receiver consists of two principal parts: multiuser soft input soft output (SISO) detector and SISO channel decoder. When the channel is under the attack of jamming, for optimum detection we propose to add a jamming estimator to multiuser SISO detector. So, the new SISO multiuser detector consists of multiuser likelihood calculator (MULC) and iterative jamming estimator (JE). The numerical results show that the proposed receiver works quite well compared to the ideal receiver which has the perfect channel state...
