    Abstract
In this paper, we consider a wireless cooperative network with a wireless-powered energy harvesting (EH) relay. The relay employs a time switching (TS) policy that switches between the EH and data decoding (DD) modes. Both energy and data buffers are kept at the relay to store the harvested energy and decoded data packets, respectively. In this paper, we derive static and dynamic TS policies that maximize the system throughput or minimize the average transmission delay. In particular, in the static policies, the EH or DD mode is selected with a pre-determined probability. In contrast, in a dynamic policy, the mode is selected dynamically according to the states of data and energy buffers. We...

DMAIDPS: a distributed multi-agent intrusion detection and prevention system for cloud IoT environments

    , Article Cluster Computing ; 2022 ; 13867857 (ISSN) Javadpour, A ; Pinto, P ; Ja’fari, F ; Zhang, W ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Cloud Internet of Things (CIoT) environments, as the essential basis for computing services, have been subject to abuses and cyber threats. The adversaries constantly search for vulnerable areas in such computing environments to impose their damages and create complex challenges. Hence, using intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPSs) is almost mandatory for securing CIoT environments. However, the existing IDPSs in this area suffer from some limitations, such as incapability of detecting unknown attacks and being vulnerable to the single point of failure. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed multi-agent IDPS (DMAIDPS) that overcomes these limitations. The learning agents in...

    Abstract
The power control of horizontal axis wind turbines can affect significantly the vibration loads and fatigue life of the tower and the blades. In this paper, we both consider the power control and vibration load mitigation of the tower fore-aft vibration. For this purpose, at first, we developed a fully coupled model of the NREL 5MW turbine. This model considers the full aeroelastic behaviour of the blades and tower and is validated by experiment results, comparing the time history data with the FAST (Fatigue, Aerodynamics, Structures, and Turbulence) code which is developed by NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab in the United States). In the next, novel sensorless control algorithms are...

    Abstract
This research explored the influences of shielding gases on the appearance of weld beads and the microstructures and mechanical properties of thin-wall samples using conventional gas metal arc welding as the heat source by using 5356 aluminium alloy welding wire as the raw materials and nitrogen (N2) and argon (Ar) as the shielding gases. The results showed that under the same parameters and after mono-layer single-bead welding was performed using N2 as the shielding gas, the bead height was higher, the bead width was narrower, and the penetration depth was shallower. The grain size of the thin-wall sample protected by N2 was 43.5–47.8 % smaller than that obtained under Ar protection....

    Abstract
Curcumin incorporated polyurethanes (CPU) are gaining much attention as a biomaterial. However, challenges are still remained due to hydrophobicity and low mechanical strength of CPU. Herein, we synthesized the CPU/ZnO nanocomposites with good mechanical and improved hydrophilic properties via in-situ polymerization. A series of curcumin incorporated polyurethane with different concentrations of ZnO nanoparticles (ZnCPU) are synthesized by using the curcumin, polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the soft segment, hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) as the hard segment, and 1,4-butanediol (BDO) as the chain extender. The addition of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) facilitated the soft domain of PU which is...

    2007
    Abstract
An integrated microsampling approach based on solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was developed to provide a complete solution to highly efficient and accurate pharmacokinetic studies. The microsampling system included SPME probes that are made of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and C18-bonded silica, a fast and efficient sampling strategy with accurate kinetic calibration, and a high-throughput desorption device based on a modified 96-well plate. The sampling system greatly improved the quantitative capability of SPME in two ways. First, the use of the C18-bonded silica/PEG fibers minimized the competition effect from analogues of the target analytes in a complicated sample matrix such as blood...

    Abstract
There has been a growing demand for materials with superior absorption capabilities, such as strong absorbing capacity, thin thickness, and light weight, to solve challenges related to EM radiation pollution. While the majority of the research is focused on optimizing material compositions, component microstructure and absorber structure are also critical factors for improving microwave absorption performance. In this research, we show how the microstructure of components and absorber design may increase dissipation features. Solvothermal and hydrothermal methods were utilized for synthesizing mesoporous CuS micro-particles with a 3D hierarchical structure as a dielectric component and...

    Abstract
In this paper, we focus on the problem of hierarchical cross- layer dynamic resource allocation for heterogeneous networks with flexible backhaul. We formulate the radio resource management problem as a two timescale non-convex stochastic optimisation problem which jointly optimizes flow control, routing control, interference mitigation and link scheduling in order to maximize a generic network utility. We propose an iterative hierarchical control structure where the long-term controls are adaptive to large scale fading and the short-term control is adaptive to the local CSI within a pico or macro BS, to find the optimal solution. The proposed solution benefits from low complexity and...

    Abstract
Cloud computing environments provide users with Internet-based services and one of their main challenges is security issues. Hence, using Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) as a defensive strategy in such environments is essential. Multiple parameters are used to evaluate the IDSs, the most important aspect of which is the feature selection method used for classifying the malicious and legitimate activities. We have organized this research to determine an effective feature selection method to increase the accuracy of the classifiers in detecting intrusion. A Hybrid Ant-Bee Colony Optimization (HABCO) method is proposed to convert the feature selection problem into an optimization problem. We...

    Abstract
This research aims to represent a novel approach to detect malicious nodes in Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) within the next-generation smart cities. Smart city applications have a critical role in improving public services quality, and security is their main weakness. Hence, a systematic multidimensional approach is required for data storage and security. Routing attacks, especially sinkholes, can direct the network data to an attacker and can also disrupt the network equipment. Communications need to be with integrity, confidentiality, and authentication. So, the smart city and urban Internet of Things (IoT) network, must be secure, and the data exchanged across the network must...

    Abstract
One of the main advantages of utilizing flexible backhaul in future HetNets is that it can provide better user experience through flexible resource allocation. For this purpose, it is important to provide the required quality of service (QoS) in such networks. In this paper, we consider the problem of cross-layer radio resource management in HetNets with flexible backhaul which guarantees minimum total transmit power of BSs as well as the average end-to-end data rate requirement of each data flow. The problem is formulated as a two-timescale stochastic optimisation, where the long-timescale control variables are flow control, routing control and interference mitigation, while the...

Optimal hierarchical radio resource management for HetNets with flexible backhaul

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications ; Volume 17, Issue 7 , 2018 , Pages 4239-4255 ; 15361276 (ISSN) Omidvar, N ; Liu, A ; Lau, V ; Zhang, F ; Tsang, D. H. K ; Pakravan, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Providing backhaul connectivity for macro and pico base stations (BSs) constitutes a significant share of infrastructure costs in future heterogeneous networks (HetNets). To address this issue, the emerging idea of flexible backhaul is proposed. Under this architecture, not all the pico BSs are connected to the backhaul, resulting in a significant reduction in the infrastructure costs. In this regard, pico BSs without backhaul connectivity need to communicate with their nearby BSs in order to have indirect accessibility to the backhaul. This makes the radio resource management (RRM) in such networks more complex and challenging. In this paper, we address the problem of cross-layer RRM in...

    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of content caching in 5G cellular networks relying on social-aware device-to-device communications (DTD) is investigated. Our focus is on how to efficiently select important users (IUs) and how to allocate content files to the storage of these selected IUs to form a distributed caching system. We aim at proposing a novel approach for minimizing the downloading latency and maximizing the social welfare simultaneously. In particular, we first model the problem of maximizing the social welfare as a many-to-one matching game based on the social property of mobile users. We study this game by exploiting users' social properties to generate the utility functions of the...

    Abstract
Ionic liquids, which are designable and nonvolatile, have become a hot topic in the field of CO2 separation from industrial gases. In order to utilize the nonvolatile and low heat capacity of ionic liquids, it is necessary to solve the problem of high viscosity of pure ionic liquids. In the present study, ether functionalized pyridinium ion [E1Py]+ with good biodegradability and low viscosity was selected as cation. Ions containing cyano groups were used as anions, such as thiocyanate ion [SCN]-, dicyanamide ion [N(CN)2]-, tricyanomethanide ion [C(CN)3]-. Three ionic liquids with low viscosity were synthesized and characterized by 1HNMR, 13CNMR and FTIR. The physiochemical properties of...

    Abstract
Group 6 transition metal dichalcogenides (G6-TMDs), most notably MoS2, MoSe2, MoTe2, WS2 and WSe2, constitute an important class of materials with a layered crystal structure. Various types of G6-TMD nanomaterials, such as nanosheets, nanotubes and quantum dot nano-objects and flower-like nanostructures, have been synthesized. High thermodynamic stability under ambient conditions, even in atomically thin form, made nanosheets of these inorganic semiconductors a valuable asset in the existing library of two-dimensional (2D) materials, along with the well-known semimetallic graphene and insulating hexagonal boron nitride. G6-TMDs generally possess an appropriate bandgap (1-2 eV) which is...

    Abstract
In this work, a novel and facile synthesis process to fabricate single crystalline organometal halide perovskite nanowires has been successfully developed. Nanowires were grown in a high density ordered array from metal nanoclusters inside anodic aluminum oxide templates using a non-catalytic chemical vapor deposition method. Specifically, perovskite NWs were grown as a result of the reaction between methylammonium iodide (MAI) and the Pb/Sn (Pb or Sn) metal in anodic aluminum oxide templates under optimal conditions. The characterization results show that there is a reaction zone at the interface between the perovskite material and metal, at the bottom of the anodic aluminum oxide...

    Abstract
Primal-Dual Interior-Point Methods (IPMs) have shown their power in solving large classes of optimization problems. In this paper a self-regular proximity based Infeasible Interior Point Method (IIPM) is proposed for linear optimization problems. First we mention some interesting properties of a specific self-regular proximity function, studied recently by Peng and Terlaky, and use it to define infeasible neighborhoods. These simple but interesting properties of the proximity function indicate that, when the current iterate is in a large neighborhood of the central path, large-update IIPMs emerge as the only natural choice. Then, we apply these results to design a specific self-regularity...
