    Abstract
Global environmental pollution and energy supply demand have been regarded as important concerns in recent years. Metal oxide semiconductor photocatalysts is a promising approach to apply environmental remediation as well as fuel generation from water splitting and carbon dioxide reduction. ZnO nanostructures have been shown promising photocatalytic activities due to their non-toxic, inexpensive, and highly efficient nature. However, its wide band gap hinders photo-excitation for practical photocatalytic applications under solar light as an abundant, clean and safe energy source. To overcome this barrier, many strategies have been developed in the last decade to apply ZnO nanostructured...

    Abstract
(Chemical Equation Presented) New 2-aryl-4-chloro-3-hydroxy-1H-indole-5,7- dicarbaldehydes were synthesized in three steps from acetophenone derivatives. By oxidation of acetophenones to aryl glyoxals using selenium dioxide and condensation with acetylacetone in the presence of ammonium acetate in water 3-acetyl-5-aryl-4-hydroxy-2-methyl-1H-pyrrols were obtained. 2-Aryl-4-chloro-3-hydroxy-1H-indole-5,7-dicarbaldehydes were synthesized via Vilsmeier-Haack reaction of pyrrole derivatives in moderate yields

Stereoselective synthesis of β-amino ketones via direct Mannich-type reactions, catalyzed with ZrOCl2·8H2O under solvent-free conditions

    , Article European Journal of Organic Chemistry ; Issue 22 , 2006 , Pages 5152-5157 ; 1434193X (ISSN) Eftekhari-Sis, B ; Abdollahifar, A ; Mahmoodi Hashemi, M ; Zirak, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
At room temperature, zirconium oxychloride (ZrOCl2· 8H2O) efficiently catalyzes the direct Mannich-type reaction of a variety of in situ generated aldimines using aldehydes and anilines with ketones in a three-component reaction under solvent-free conditions. The reaction proceeds rapidly and affords the corresponding β-amino ketones in good to high yields with good to excellent stereoselectivities. The catalyst can be recycled for subsequent reactions without any appreciable loss of efficiency. © Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 2006

Group 6 transition metal dichalcogenide nanomaterials: synthesis, applications and future perspectives

    , Article Nanoscale Horizons ; Volume 3, Issue 2 , 2018 , Pages 90-204 ; 20556756 (ISSN) Samadi, M ; Sarikhani, N ; Zirak, M ; Zhang, H ; Zhang, H. L ; Zaker Moshfegh, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Group 6 transition metal dichalcogenides (G6-TMDs), most notably MoS2, MoSe2, MoTe2, WS2 and WSe2, constitute an important class of materials with a layered crystal structure. Various types of G6-TMD nanomaterials, such as nanosheets, nanotubes and quantum dot nano-objects and flower-like nanostructures, have been synthesized. High thermodynamic stability under ambient conditions, even in atomically thin form, made nanosheets of these inorganic semiconductors a valuable asset in the existing library of two-dimensional (2D) materials, along with the well-known semimetallic graphene and insulating hexagonal boron nitride. G6-TMDs generally possess an appropriate bandgap (1-2 eV) which is...

Biocompatible magnetic N-rich activated carbon from egg white biomass and sucrose: Preparation, characterization and investigation of dye adsorption capacity from aqueous solution

    , Article Surfaces and Interfaces ; Volume 15 , 2019 , Pages 157-165 ; 24680230 (ISSN) Vahdati Khajeh, S ; Zirak, M ; Zooghi Tejrag, R ; Fathi, A ; Lamei, K ; Eftekhari Sis, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2019
    Abstract
In the present work, N-rich activated carbon was synthesized using hydrothermal carbonization of egg white biomass in the presence of sucrose, followed by chemical activation and magnetization of hydrochar in the presence of iron (II) and (III) at NaOH solution. The results showed that the sucrose has a critical role in hydrochar yield by increasing of sucrose content. This claim also proved by SEM analysis, which hydrochar morphology was changed from the layered to fused carbon spheres morphology that confirmed the increasing of nucleation site. The materials were characterized with VSM, SEM, CHN, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy and XRD techniques. Capacity of prepared magnetic activated carbon...

Design and tailoring of one-dimensional ZnO nanomaterials for photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes: a review

    , Article Research on Chemical Intermediates ; Volume 45, Issue 4 , 2019 , Pages 2197-2254 ; 09226168 (ISSN) Samadi, M ; Zirak, M ; Naseri, A ; Kheirabadi, M ; Ebrahimi, M ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Abstract: Photocatalysis using semiconductors has emerged as a promising wastewater treatment process to overcome the major challenges faced by conventional technologies. The advantages of ZnO nanomaterials over other semiconductors, and their structure-dependent properties, make them important building blocks in nanotechnology as multifunctional materials. Moreover, it has been confirmed that ZnO nanomaterials can exhibit high performance in photodegradation of organic dyes for treatment of industrial effluent. The wurtzite structure of ZnO contains polar and nonpolar planes; the low surface energy and thermodynamic stability of the nonpolar planes enable formation of one-dimensional (1D)...

    Abstract
Although fluctuations in the waiting time series have been studied for a long time, some important issues such as its long-range memory and its stochastic features in the presence of nonstationarity have so far remained unstudied. Here we find that the "waiting times" series for a given increment level have long-range correlations with Hurst exponents belonging to the interval 1/2

    Abstract
Direct solvent exfoliation of bulk MoS2 with the assistance of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) produces a novel two-dimensional organic/inorganic semiconductor hetero-junction. The obtained P3HT-MoS2 nanohybrid exhibits unexpected optical limiting properties in contrast to the saturated absorption behavior of both P3HT and MoS2, showing potential in future photoelectric applications
