Evaluating of Damages for Surface Tanks under Blast Loadings

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hasanpour, Amir (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The on grade flexible steel storage tanks are extensively used in oil refineries, petrochemical plants, power plants and many other municipal utilities. The increasing statistics of various incidents and attacks occurred to these facilities clearly indicates the vulnerability of these strategic installations under the effects of intentional (terrorist) blasts. Therefore, Given the strategic nature of the care and maintenance for these tanks, their damage assessment under the prescribed explosion is quite important. Due to flammable content of some of these tanks, it is necessary to speed up the process of their vulnerability assessment and making the appropriate decisions for any needed...

Evaluating of Damages for UnAnchored Surface Tanks under Blast Loadings

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fallahnejad, Mohammad (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofouei, Fayaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
On Grade steel tanks are widely used in petroleum complexes, refineries, power plants and many urban facilities. Increasing the number of attacks, incident reports and operational events happening in refineries proves the sensitivity of these strategic facilities against various Hazards such as explosion. So, the damage assessment of tanks after the explosion is important for their maintenance and repair.Since some of the tanks containing flammable materials, quick action to estimate the possible damage and required strengthening and retrofitting or disconnecting the input to a plant lifeline is of utmost importance. Therefore, special attention to study the blast loading and the study of...

Seismic Response and Buckling behavior of Aboveground Cylindrical Steel Tanks

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sobhan, Mohammad Saeed (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor) ; Khaje Ahmad Attari, Nader (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the seismic response of aboveground, anchored cylindrical steel tanks subjected to horizontal and vertical ground acceleration is investigated. The buckling capacity of the steel tanks is estimated using static pushover (SPO) and incremental dynamic analyses (IDA). Finite element models of a broad tank and a tall tank with height to diameter ratios (H/D) of 0.40, 0.80 and with a liquid level of 90% of the height of the cylinder were used in this study. Appropriate load patterns due to the horizontal and vertical components of ground excitations are utilized for SPO analyses. The influence of the vertical component of ground acceleration on buckling capacity curve of the tank...
