    Abstract
The present study is focused on the investigation of the absorption properties of the bi-layer absorber with different thickness and orientation approaches. Improvement in absorption exclusively depends on the various parameters as interfacial polarization, multiple reflections among layers, conduction loss, phase cancellations, and shape anisotropy, etc. By considering these parameters. Calcium titanate micro-cubes CaTiO3 (CTO) and polypyrrole nanotubes (PPy) nanocomposites were prepared and microwave absorption from single layer coaxial absorbers having M1 = CaTiO3+15 wt% polymer and M2 = CaTiO3+30 wt% polymer were determined. Different layer orientations and thicknesses of the bi-layer...

    Abstract
Strontium hexaferrites with the composition of SrFe12−xTix/2Znx/2O19 (x = 0–2.5 in steps of 0.5) were synthesized using chlorides by means of co-precipitation route. The structural, magnetic and microwave absorption properties of the samples were surveyed. The results confirmed that the magnetoplumbite single phase was obtained for all samples and the hexagonal particles dispersed within size range of 1–2 µm. With increasing amount of dopant, coercivity decreased from 5640 to 1486 Oe while the maximum saturation magnetization was 63 emu/g and belonged to x = 0.5. The reflection loss results denoted that the prepared composites had excellent microwave absorption properties and the maximum...

    Abstract
The importance of hyperthermia as a promising method in disruption and removal of cancerous cells is well understood. One of the effective options of concentration of heat within a specific tissue is using laser and exploiting absorption properties of metallic nanostructures. In this report, the geometrical effect of gold nanostructures in the performance of laser based hyperthermia has been analyzed. The analysis is based on the consideration of absorption properties of gold nanostructures, interaction of laser light with a specific tissue containing nanostructures and the effect of generated heat on elevation of temperature inside the tissue. The analysis is performed using Mie theory (for...

    Abstract
In this study, a two-layer feed-forward neural network was constructed and applied to determine a mapping associating mix design and testing factors of cement-nano silica (NS)-rice husk ash ternary blended concrete samples with their performance in conductance to the water absorption properties. To generate data for the neural network model (NNM), a total of 174 field cores from 58 different mixes at three ages were tested in the laboratory for each of percentage, velocity and coefficient of water absorption and mix volumetric properties. The significant factors (six items) that affect the permeability properties of ternary blended concrete were identified by experimental studies which were:...

    Abstract
In this study, ternary MWCNTs/CoFe2O4/FeCo nanocomposite coated with conductive PEDOT-polyaniline (PA@MW/F/C) co-polymers were synthesized by microwave-assisted sol-gel followed in-situ polymerization methods. The phases, crystal structures, morphologies, magnetic and electromagnetic features of the as-prepared samples were identified via XRD, SEM, XPS, VSM, and VNA respectively. Absorption characteristics were investigated in the frequency (12–18 GHz) Ku band. XRD, VSM and SEM analysis confirmed the partial reduction process of CoFe2O4 and successfully decorated magneto-dielectric particles with co-polymers. By measuring electromagnetic features of the samples, it was found that coating...

    Abstract
SrFe12-xTix/2Zn x/2O19 (x = 0-2.5) powders were synthesized by use of chlorides through co-precipitation method. The obtained powders were then milled by high energy ball mill to crash hard agglomerates and achieve nanoparticles. In order to evaluate microwave absorption versus frequency, composites including ferrite, as a filler, and matrix of polyvinylchloride (PVC) with weight ratio of 70% ferrite were prepared. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and vector network analyzer (VNA) were employed to study the structural, magnetic and microwave absorption properties...

    Abstract
Lead silicate glasses (LSGs) have high gamma-ray attenuation but low chemical durability properties. In this work, LSGs with (55.5-68.5 wt%) PbO content containing ZrO2 and TiO2 additions were produced. The chemical corrosion of various produced LSGs in 0.5 N HNO3 aqueous solution and determination of their gamma-ray attenuation coefficients for 60Co and 137Cs sources were investigated. The weight loss measurements, the SEM micrographs, the EDS analysis of the sample surfaces and the ICP analysis of solution were used to characterize the dissolution process. The effects of PbO content, ZrO2 and TiO2 additives on chemical corrosion, and also the effect of PbO on gamma-ray attenuation...

    , Article Radiation Physics and Chemistry ; Volume 141 , 2017 , Pages 223-228 ; 0969806X (ISSN) Kiani, M. A ; Ahmadi, S. J ; Outokesh, M ; Adeli, R ; Mohammadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this research, the characteristics of the prepared samples in epoxy matrix by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), as well as scanning electron microscope (SEM) are evaluated. Meanwhile, the obtained mechanical properties of the specimen are investigated. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is also employed to evaluate the thermal degradation of manufactured nanocomposites. The thermal neutron absorption properties of nanocomposites containing 3 wt% of montmorillonite nanoclay (closite30B) have been studied experimentally, using an Am-Be point source. Mechanical tests reveal that the higher B4C concentrations, the more tensile strengths, but lower...
