    Abstract
The preparation of two new azulene-based imine ligands N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-6-tBu-1-azulenylmethaneimine, 3, and N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-6-tBu-3-(2,6-diisopropylphenyliminomethyl)-1-azulenylmethaneimine, 4, is described. These imine ligands display stimuli responsive emissive behavior and their fluorescence can be switched on and off by protonation and neutralization with trifluoroacetic acid and trimethylamine, respectively. The cyclometalation of the monoimine ligand by platinum gave the cyclometalated complex [PtMe(SMe2)(3′)], 5, (where the prime denotes the cyclometalated ligand 3). The reaction of 5 with TlPF6 yields the trinuclear bent Pt2Tl complex {[PtMe(SMe2)(3′)]2(μ-Tl)}PF6,...

RF reactive co-sputtered Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles in SiO 2 thin films

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Volume 253, Issue 18 , 2007 , Pages 7438-7442 ; 01694332 (ISSN) Sangpour, P ; Akhavan, O ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2007
    Abstract
We have studied formation of Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles in sputtered SiO 2 thin films. Silica thin films containing Au-Ag nanoparticles were deposited on quartz substrates using rf reactive magnetron co-sputtering technique. The films heat-treated in reducing Ar + H 2 atmosphere at different temperatures. They were analyzed by using UV-vis spectrophotometry, atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) methods for their optical, surface morphological as well as structural and chemical properties. The optical absorption of the Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles illustrated one plasmon resonance absorption peak located at 450 nm between the absorption bands of pure Au and Ag...

Cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes of 2,2′-bipyridine N-oxide containing a 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene ligand: structural, computational and electrochemical studies

    Abstract
The preparation and characterization of new heteronuclear-platinum(ii) complexes containing a 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf) ligand are described. The reaction of the known starting complex [PtMe(κ2N,C-bipyO-H)(SMe2)], A, in which bipyO-H is a cyclometalated rollover 2,2'-bipyridine N-oxide, with the dppf ligand in a 2:1 ratio or an equimolar ratio led to the formation of the corresponding binuclear complex [Pt2Me2(κ2N,C-bipyO-H)2(μ-dppf)], 1, or the mononuclear complex [PtMe(κ1C-bipyO-H)(dppf)], 2, respectively. According to the reaction conditions, the dppf ligand in 1 and 2 behaves as either a bridging or chelating ligand. All complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy....

Effect of morphology on the solar photocatalytic behavior of ZnO nanostructures

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 485, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 616-620 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Mohajerani, M ; Lak, A ; Simchi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
ZnO nanostructures in the shape of particle, rods, flower-like and micro-sphere were synthesized via facile hydrothermal methods and the effect of morphology on the decolorization of CI Acid Red 27 solution under direct irradiation of sunlight was investigated. XRD patterns showed that the synthesized nanostructures have Wurtzite-type hexagonal structure with high crystallinity and crystallite size in the range of 67-100 nm. UV-vis absorption spectra indicated that the ZnO nanorods have higher visible light harvesting as compared to the other morphologies. The decolorization obeys the first order kinetics rate with the kinetics constant of 4.5-19.5 × 10-3 min-1 dependent on the ZnO...

Compound Hertzian chain model for copper-carbon nanocomposites' absorption spectrum

    , Article Micro and Nano Letters ; Volume 6, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 277-279 ; 17500443 (ISSN) Kokabi, A ; Hosseini, M ; Saeedi, S ; Moftakharzadeh, A ; Vesaghi, M. A ; Fardmanesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The infrared range optical absorption mechanism of carbon-copper composite thin layer coated on the diamond-like carbon buffer layer has been investigated. By consideration of weak interactions between copper nanoparticles in their network, optical absorption is modelled using their coherent dipole behaviour induced by the electromagnetic radiation. The copper nanoparticles in the bulk of carbon are assumed as a chain of plasmonic dipoles, which have coupling resonance. Considering nearest neighbour interactions for this metallic nanoparticles, surface plasmon resonance frequency (ω 0) and coupled plasmon resonance frequency (ω 1) have been computed. The damping rate against wavelength is...

Controlling morphology and structure of nanocrystallineVcadmium sulfide (CdS) by tailoring solvothermal processing parameters

    , Article Journal of Nanoparticle Research ; Volume 13, Issue 7 , 2011 , Pages 3011-3018 ; 13880764 (ISSN) Dalvand, P ; Mohammadi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Cadmium sulfide (CdS) with different morphologies was successfully prepared by solvothermal process by controlling the processing parameters, including nature of precursor and solvent, reaction temperature and process time. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that, in all cases highly pure and crystallized CdS with hexagonal structure were obtained. In addition, it was found that the processing parameters influence on preferable growth direction of CdS nanostructures. Field emission scanning electron microscope analysis showed that CdS nanowires with different aspect ratios were obtained (depending upon the reaction temperature and process time) in presence of sulfur powder and...
