    Abstract
This paper deals with break size estimation of loss of coolant accidents (LOCA) using a nonlinear autoregressive with exogenous inputs (NARX) neural network. Previous studies used static approaches, requiring time-integrated parameters and independent firing algorithms. NARX neural network is able to directly deal with time-dependent signals for dynamic estimation of break sizes in real-time. The case studied is a LOCA in the primary system of Bushehr nuclear power plant (NPP). In this study, number of hidden layers, neurons, feedbacks, inputs, and training duration of transients are selected by performing parametric studies to determine the network architecture with minimum error. The...

Development of an Effective Method to Support Severe Accident Management in Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Saghafi, Mahdi (Author) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Following Three Mile Island (TMI) accident in 1979, first severe accident (SA) in Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs), Accident Management Support Tools (AMSTs) were developed and installed in a number of NPPs. Lessons learned from Fukushima accident highlighted importance of Accident Management (AM) in mitigation severe radiological consequences after a SA and suggested reconsiderations of AM program which in turn created the need for AMSTs adaption and modernization. An efficient AMSTs should have the following principal capabilities: (1) Identification of accidents and diagnosis of the plant damage state (PDS), (2) Prediction of accident progress path and (3) Source term analysis and prediction...

Analysis the Posibiliy of Transferring Water from Dearator to Steam Generator in Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in During SBO

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abdolmohamadi, Razieh (Author) ; Vousoghi, Naser (Supervisor) ; Ghofrani, Mohamad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Secondary circuit “feed and bleed” strategy is considered as as the severe accident management strategy with the goals of heat removal from the primary circuit to the secondary one, steam condensing in the primary circuit, natural circulation recovery by the primary circuit loops or return of water from the pressurizer to the primary circuit loops and wetting the core fuel elements In this study, a proposed solution was presented and analyzed for implementing the strategy of feed and bleed the Bushehr NPP secondary circuit during station blackout. For this purpose, first, the design information of the primary and secondary circuit of the Bushehr NPP and its working conditions at full power...

Accident management support tools in nuclear power plants: A post-Fukushima review

    Abstract
In stressful situations such as severe accidents in nuclear power plants, operators need support tools to ease decision making in the selection of accident management measures. Following the Three Mile Island (TMI) accident in 1979, the first severe accident in a nuclear power plant, Accident Management Support Tools (AMSTs) were extensively developed and installed in a number of nuclear power plants. Lessons learned from the Fukushima accident highlighted the importance of accident management in mitigation severe accidents and suggested the reconsideration of accident management programs, which in turn created the need for AMSTs adaption and modernization. This paper provides the first...
