Impact of phase transformation on mechanical properties anisotropy of commercially pure titanium

    , Article Materials and Design ; Volume 37 , 2012 , Pages 223-227 ; 02641275 (ISSN) Nasiri Abarbekoh, H ; Ekrami, A ; Ziaei Moayyed, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Effects of microstructure and texture, before and after phase transformation, on the anisotropy of the mechanical properties and fracture behaviors of commercially pure titanium were studied. Before phase transformation, due to the split distribution of basal texture the activation of different deformation systems led to mechanical properties anisotropy. Although the fracture mechanism in both specimens was voids nucleation, growth and coalescence, the shape, size and distribution of dimples were affected by active deformation systems. However, after phase transformation, basal plains in most grains were aligned with the transverse direction. This texture component led to the activation and...

    Abstract
In the present study, for the first time, a thermodynamically consistent large deformation theory is developed to model the multi physics problem of axonal swelling which is the hallmark of most of the brain diseases. To this end, the relevant axonal compartments are first explained and the corresponding model parts are introduced. Next, the problem is formulated as an open thermodynamic system and the corresponding constitutive and evolution equations are extracted utilizing the balance laws. Here, a multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient is used to capture the active behavior of the axonal actin cortex. Specific free energy functions are given for the model parts to...

Effect of silicon carbide nanoparticles on hot deformation of ultrafine-grained aluminium nanocomposites prepared by hot powder extrusion process

    Abstract
The flow behaviour of Al–SiC nanocomposites prepared by mechanical milling and hot powder extrusion methods was studied at different temperatures (350–500°C) and strain rates (0.005–0.5 s−1). The flow of the Powder metallurgy nanocomposites exhibited a peak stress followed by a dynamic flow softening behaviour. It was shown that mechanical milling increased high-temperature strain rate sensitivity of ultrafine-grained (UFG) aluminium while decreasing its flow dependence to temperature. Constitutive analysis of the hot deformation process by Zener–Hollomon parameter (Z) also indicated a remarkable increase in the deformation activation energy (about 40%). Likewise, SiC nanoparticles (up to...

A Study on Flow Behavior of AA5086 Over a Wide Range of Temperatures

    , Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Volume 25, Issue 3 , 2016 , Pages 1076-1084 ; 10599495 (ISSN) Asgharzadeh, A ; Jamshidi Aval, H ; Serajzadeh, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Flow stress behavior of AA5086 was determined using tensile testing at different temperatures from room temperature to 500 °C and strain rates varying between 0.002 and 1 s−1. The strain rate sensitivity parameter and occurrence of dynamic strain aging were then investigated in which an Arrhenius-type model was employed to study the serrated flow. Additionally, hot deformation behavior at temperatures higher than 320 °C was evaluated utilizing hyperbolic-sine constitutive equation. Finally, a feed forward artificial neural network model with back propagation learning algorithm was proposed to predict flow stress for all deformation conditions. The results demonstrated that the strain rate...
