    Active microfluidic micromixer design using ionic polymer-metal composites

    Abstract
    In most of the microfluidic applications, it is necessary to have a mixed fluid from the beginning, but in microchannels, due to facing with low Reynolds flows, the fluids flow in the channel by the laminar regimes. Hence the mixing process is a challenging problem and researchers are trying to present fast and reliable micromixers. In this paper, using Ionic Polymer-Metal Composites (IPMCs), an active micromixer has been designed. To investigate the appropriateness of IPMC, using experimental and simulation tests, we show that the IPMC actuator is a potential candidate as an active element of microfluidic micromixers

    Abstract
    Surface phenomena is one of the fundamental branches of science that has many applications in industries related to multiphase processes. One of the most important issues of this knowledge is inter-phase transport phenomena in contacting gas - liquid and liquid – liquid systems. Multiphase systems generally include dispersions such that in many cases are associated with the relative motion between the continuous and dispersed phase. One of the most widely used inter-phase flow systems is dispersion of gas bubbles in the bulk of liquid.     Abstract
    We present gas sensing property of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) composite as the active element for acetone vapour detection at room temperature. The polymeric films were formed by spin coating method on SiO2 substrates. Then they were activated by dropping the CNTs suspension in acetone on the PMMA films. The CNT/PMMA films were characterised by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. Variation of film's electrical resistance after exposure polar and non-polar gases is utilised as the principle of gas sensing. The experimental results showed that the samples present chemical selectivity and reversibility toward polar gases especially acetone vapour

    Abstract
    Sulfur quantum dots (SQDs) were fabricated using a facile hydrothermal method and used for the preparation of functional food packaging film and compared the properties with other sulfur-based fillers like elemental sulfur (ES) and sulfur nanoparticles (SNP). The SQDs have an average size of 5.3 nm and were very stable in aqueous suspension. Unlike other sulfur-based fillers, the SQD showed high antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal activity, but no cytotoxicity was found for L929 mouse fibroblasts even after long-term exposure of 48 h.
