Joint Decisions of Activity-type and Duration, Application of Copula Models

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Arefizadeh, Sina (Author) ; Kermanshah, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Inadequate accuracy of four-step demand models, conducted researchers to use the activity-based models. Decisions such as activity type choice and its duration, play a key role in these models as ingredients. On mentioned cases, deciding process is not in order, but is simultaneous. Existence of biases such as Selectivity, is a motivation to use joint models which include a wide spectrum. Due to lacking closed form for most of these models, researchers often confront to some difficulties. Looking for solution for the difficulties, lighten the idea of using Copula transforms to propose joint models. Enjoying Copulas, a closed form for joint models is achievable. Also, a wide range of...

Spatial Transferability of Activity Choice and Time Allocation Joint Model

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nohekhan, Amir (Author) ; Samimi, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Spatial transferability of behavioral models can significantly decrease the costs and time required for transportation studies. The main aim in this study is exploring transferability of MDCEV joint model used for activity type and duration choices with implementing various transfer methods on different sample sizes. In order to achieve this goal, full information of comprehensive transportation studies conducted in Mashhad 1994 and Shiraz 1999 has been employed. Shiraz city is the region where the model is generated using its data and Mashhad is the region which the generated model is transferred to. Transfer methods studies in this study are Transfer scaling, Bayesian method, Combined...

Concurrent project scheduling and material planning: a genetic algorithm approach

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 16, Issue 2 E , 2009 , Pages 91-99 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Sheikh Sajadieh, M ; Shadrokh, S ; Hassanzadeh, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Scheduling projects incorporated with materials ordering results in a more realistic problem. This paper deals with the combined problem of project scheduling and material ordering. The purpose of this paper is to minimize the total cost of this problem by determining the optimal values of activity duration, activity finish time and the material ordering schedule subject to constraints. We employ a genetic algorithm approach to solve it. Elements of the algorithm, such as chromosome structure, unfitness function, crossover, mutation and local search operations are explained. The results of the experimentation are quite satisfactory

A robust scheduling for the multi-mode project scheduling problem with a given deadline under uncertainty of activity duration

    , Article International Journal of Production Research ; Volume 57, Issue 10 , 2019 , Pages 3138-3167 ; 00207543 (ISSN) Moradi, H ; Shadrokh, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The problem of this paper deals with the multi-mode project scheduling problem under uncertainty of activity duration where only the renewable resources are taken into account and a given deadline has to be met at the cost of recruiting additional resources. A heuristic algorithm is employed to solve this problem, and to maintain the robustness of the baseline schedule, the concept of critical chain project management (CCPM) is applied in which a new definition to resource buffer is considered. A simulation methodology is used to determine the size and location of resource buffers in the schedules in which three different buffer sizes and three different uncertainty levels are considered....

Integration of simulation and fuzzy multi attribute decision making for modeling and assessment of fuzzy parameters

    , Article Summer Computer Simulation Conference 2007, SCSC 2007, Part of the 2007 Summer Simulation Multiconference, SummerSim 2007, San Diego, CA, 15 July 2007 through 18 July 2007 ; Volume 1 , 2007 , Pages 400-407 ; 9781622763580 (ISBN) Azadeh, A ; Seifoory, M ; Abbasi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper introduces how to incorporate fuzzy set theory with discrete-event simulation in order to model uncertain activity duration in simulating a real-world system, especially when insufficient or no sample data are available. A case study is developed to apply this method to select a scenario to implement the maintenance program in a constant work in process (CONWIP) system. The maintenance activities directly or indirectly affect on production system performance such as response time production costs and etc. so we used the fuzzy simulation to determine the maintenance affects on the system performance. Finally we used the fuzzy simulation result to develop a fuzzy multi attribute...

Due date assignment in repetitive projects

    , Article International Journal of Production Economics ; Volume 129, Issue 1 , January , 2011 , Pages 79-85 ; 09255273 (ISSN) Azaron, A ; Fynes, B ; Modarres, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
This paper is concerned with the study of the constant due-date assignment policy in repetitive projects, where the activity durations are exponentially distributed random variables. It is then extended to the case where activity durations follow generalized Erlang distributions. The main feature of this research over the classical PERT networks is that the projects are generated according to a renewal process and share the same facilities. Our approach is first to obtain the project completion time distribution, for each generated project, by constructing a proper continuous-time Markov chain, and then to compute the optimal constant lead time for each particular project. The repetitive...

    Abstract
This article introduces a methodology to integrate fuzzy multiattribute decision making (FMADM) and fuzzy simulation. According to this method, a fuzzy simulation method is applied to study the effect of different alternative on system's performance and decision criteria taking into account fuzzy inputs. Using a fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) and the results of fuzzy simulation, a FMADM is conducted to select the best alternative. This article introduces how to incorporate fuzzy set theory with discrete-event simulation in order to model uncertain activity duration in simulating a realworld system, especially when insufficient or no sample data are available. A case study is...
