Analysis of Water Governance’s Effects in Urmia Lake’s Basin on Water Resources According to Adaptive Management Framework

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saravani, Soroush (Author) ; Tajrishy, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Lake Urmia is the largest inner lake in Iran that has been dessicated continuously over the past two decades, and most of it has dried up. Urmia Lake basin is one of the country's agricultural and industrial pillars and has more than 5 million inhabitants. The conflict between people’s interests and the environmental ones besides increased demand for water harvesting has led to a reduction in water inflow to the lake. As the water resources management issues became more complex in last two decades with the entrance of political and socio-economical, the concept of water resources management has been promoted in the broader sense of water governance. The solution to the problem of Lake Urmia...

Balance between place attachment and migration based on subjective adaptive capacity in response to climate change: the case of Famenin County in Western Iran

    , Article Climate and Development ; Volume 11, Issue 1 , 2019 , Pages 69-82 ; 17565529 (ISSN) Khanian, M ; Serpoush, B ; Gheitarani, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The effects of climate change have disturbed the living patterns of many people around the globe during the past decade and it has been a key contributing factor to mass migrations. The ‘adaptation’ approach is currently considered the most effective available solution for balancing out these effects. As a result, many researchers are trying to find out how to increase the adaptive capacity of individuals and communities in response to the effects of climate change. The effect of place attachment as a factor which connects human societies to the surrounding environment is undeniable. In this regard, the present study attempts to analyse the role of place attachment in increasing the...

A fuzzy multi-criteria approach to sustainable island-based tourism development

    Abstract
This paper aims to propose a framework by which decision-makers can evaluate and compare alternatives for sustainable island-based tourism development. The uncertainties and risks involved in information and judgment within the evaluation process were taken into account by using a hybrid approach, which combined the Delphi method, fuzzy set theory, and a discrete multi-criteria method based on prospect theory called TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese of interactive and multiple-criteria decision making). The decision making model examined 3 different techniques for aggregating the viewpoints of different decision-makers and explored how the aggregation technique would affect the ranking of the...

Development of an adaptive surrogate model for production optimization

    , Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Volume 133 , September , 2015 , Pages 677-688 ; 09204105 (ISSN) Golzari, A ; Haghighat Sefat, M ; Jamshidi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Recently production optimization has gained increasing interest in the petroleum industry. The most computationally expensive part of the production optimization process is the evaluation of the objective function performed by a numerical reservoir simulator. Employing surrogate models (a.k.a. proxy models) as a substitute for the reservoir simulator is proposed for alleviating this high computational cost.In this study, a novel approach for constructing adaptive surrogate models with application in production optimization problem is proposed. A dynamic Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) is employed as the approximation function while the training is performed using an adaptive sampling...
