Design and Structural Study of Functionalized Nanoporous Catalysts Confined with Ionic Liquids and Their Applications in Some Organic Transformations
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahmoodi Hashemi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The current thesis deals with designing of functionalized nanoporous catalysts modified with organic groups and ionic liquids and their applications for some challenging organic reactions such as synthesis of adipic acid and fatty acid esterifications. In this condition the catalysts show enhanced activity since the hydrophobicity of the surface can tune by applying organic groups. In this regard, oxidation of cyclohexene was performed using hydrogen peroxide as oxidant in the present of tungstate based task–specific ionic liquids and silica–functionalized ammonium tungstate as green catalysts. The results indicate that adipic acid achieves in high yield with excellent selectivity....

Abstract
A green and facile method for oxidation of cyclohexene to adipic acid is introduced using 30% H2 O2 as oxidant. The catalytic system comprises small amounts of Ag2 WO4 nano-rods and a Brønsted acidic ionic liquid (1,2-dimethyl-3-dodecylidazolium hydrogensulfate)

Abstract
The sole industrial process which currently used for adipic acid production is nitric acid oxidation of either cyclohexanol or cyclohexanol/cyclohexanone mixture. Emission of greenhouse nitrous oxide (N2O) gas from this process strongly contributes to global warming, resulting in acid rain and ozone depletion. Herein, we report a catalytic application of a novel dual task-specific ionic liquid (an ionic liquid with two catalytic functions) for oxidation of cyclohexene to adipic acid using 30% hydrogen peroxide. The catalyst showed desirable activity toward oxidation of cyclohexene and some cyclic olefins to produce their corresponding dicarboxylic acids

Abstract
A novel silica-functionalized ammonium tungstate interphase catalyst has been reported as a non-nitric acid route for adipic acid production from one-pot oxidative cleavage of 30% hydrogen peroxide and catalytic amounts of p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA). The catalyst has been simply prepared by commercially available starting material. The structure of the catalyst has been investigated using FT-IR spectroscopy, atomic absorption, TEM, SEM and XRD analysis. The catalyst has shown good to high activity even up to 10 runs of reaction. Simple preparation of the catalyst, avoids using harmful phase transfer catalyst (PTC) and/or chlorinated additives are among the other benefits of this work

Abstract
1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tungstate ([BMIm] 2WO 4) ionic liquid supported onto silica sulphamic acid demonstrated desirable performance for oxidation of cyclohexene to adipic acid. Simple experimental procedure, easy product isolation, catalyst recovery and reusability are some attractive features of this protocol
