Analysis and Evaluation of Computer Integrated Manufacturing: IRCA Company

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahbari Ganjeh, Sareh (Author) ; Mostafavi, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today in many industrial sectors, technology has made significant progress. Investing in advanced manufacturing technologies, especially computer integrated manufacturing systems is essential in order to survive in a competitive environment, improve performance, response to demand fluctuations and increase customer satisfaction. With available technologies and systems in computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) and its related technologies, the application of CIM in manufacturing enterprises is a reality and can meet the need of complicated manufacturing environment. Implementation of these systems brings many tangible and intangible benefits. But, according to several factors that must be...

Tool condition monitoring based on sound and vibration analysis and wavelet packet decomposition

    , Article 2012 8th International Symposium on Mechatronics and its Applications, ISMA ; April , 2012 ; 9781467308625 (ISBN) Rafezi, H ; Akbari, J ; Behzad, M ; EMAL(Emirates Aluminium) ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Tool Condition Monitoring (TCM) is a vital demand of advanced manufacturing in order to develop automated unmanned production. Continuing the machining operation with a worn or damaged tool will result in damages to the workpiece. This problem becomes more important in supplementary machining processes like drilling which the workpiece usually has passed a lot of machining processes and any damage to workpiece at this stage results in high production losses. In this research features of sound pressure and vibration signals in drilling process are recorded and analyzed in order to detect tool wear. Signal statistical features are extracted in time domain, and the features trends as the tool...

Fault tree analysis for reliability evaluation of an advanced complex manufacturing system

    , Article Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems ; Volume 17, Issue 1 , March , 2018 , Pages 107-118 ; 02196867 (ISSN) Fazlollahtabar, H ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Sharif University of Technology
World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd  2018
    Abstract
In this paper, minimal paths and cuts technique is developed to handle fault tree analysis (FTA) on the critical components of industrial robots. This analysis is integrated with the reliability block diagram (RBD) approach in order to investigate the robot system reliability. The model is implemented in a complex advanced manufacturing system having autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) as material handling devices. FTA grants cause and effects and hierarchical properties to the model. On the other hand, RBD simplifies the complex system of the AGVs for reliability evaluation. The results show that due to the filtering of the paths in a manufacturing system for AGVs, the reliability is highly...

A state-of-the-art review of the fabrication and characteristics of titanium and its alloys for biomedical applications

    , Article Bio-Design and Manufacturing ; 2021 ; 20965524 (ISSN) Sarraf, M ; Rezvani Ghomi, E ; Alipour, S ; Ramakrishna, S ; Liana Sukiman, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Abstract: Commercially pure titanium and titanium alloys have been among the most commonly used materials for biomedical applications since the 1950s. Due to the excellent mechanical tribological properties, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and antibacterial properties of titanium, it is getting much attention as a biomaterial for implants. Furthermore, titanium promotes osseointegration without any additional adhesives by physically bonding with the living bone at the implant site. These properties are crucial for producing high-strength metallic alloys for biomedical applications. Titanium alloys are manufactured into the three types of α, β, and α + β. The scientific and clinical...
