    Abstract
In this study, bioglasses in SiO2-CaO-MgO system were synthesized through sol-gel method and the effect of silica and magnesia contents on in-vitro bioactivity of the bioglasses were investigated. XRD patterns showed an amorphous structure after heat treatment at 600°C for 2 h for all glasses and also indicated that after immersion in SBF, apatite particles precipitated on glass surfaces and the rate of apatite formation decreased with increasing Mg/Ca ratio. On the other hand, the apatite formation rate was enhanced with increasing the silica content. Furthermore, magnesia contents increased the compressive strength of the samples. According to SEM, higher Mg/Ca ratio led to increase in...

    Abstract
The aim of this work is to investigate thermal stability of expanded martensite. For this purpose, two martensitic stainless steels, PH 17-4 and 13-8Mo, were low temperature gas carburized. After heat treatment, it was found out that thermal stability of expanded layer of PH 17-4 is higher than that of PH 13-8Mo. Auger Electron Spectroscopy and microhardness machines were used to investigate carbon concentration and hardness of samples, respectively. X-ray diffraction was done to study crystal structures of samples before and after heat treatment

Mechanism of Al-Si codeposition on In738LC through single-step diffusion process

    , Article International Journal of Surface Science and Engineering ; Volume 11, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 1-11 ; 1749785X (ISSN) Nikzad, S ; Abdi, M ; Rastegari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The out-of-pack cementation method was applied to coat the Nickel-based super alloy IN738LC with Si-modified aluminide. Different mixtures of the pack containing pure Al, Si, alumina powders as an inert filler, and NH4Cl as a halide salt activator were used for co-deposition at 950 and 1,050°C. The results showed although the amount of subhalide vapour pressures of Al and Si were equal at 1,050°C, Al atoms diffused only after Si atoms had been deposited. Before heat treatment, the coating thickness formed by the pack containing 2.3 wt.% Al was 6 μm more than that containing 3.5 wt.% Al. After heat treatment, thickening coatings formed within the pack containing 2.3 wt.% Al was less than that...

    Abstract
Pd doped WO3 fibers were synthesized by electro-spinning. The sol gel method was employed to prepare peroxopolytungstic acid (P-PTA). Palladium chloride and Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) was dissolved in the sol Pd:WO3 = 10% molar ratio. The prepared sol was loaded into a syringe connected to a high voltage of 18.3 kV and electrospun fibers were collected on the alumina substrates. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques were used to analyze the crystal structure and chemical composition of the fibers after heat treatment at 500 °C. Resistance-sensing measurements exhibited a sensitivity of about 30 at 500 ppm...

Effect of carbon content on carbide morphology and mechanical properties of A.R. white cast iron with 10-12% tungsten

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 542 , April , 2012 , Pages 113-126 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Heydari, D ; Skandani, A. A ; Al Haik, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Carbide morphologies of white cast iron containing 22% Cr and 10-12% tungsten with different carbon contents (2.34-3.20. wt.%) were investigated. Results indicated that for the as-cast alloys with no heat treatments, the addition of carbon changes the morphology of carbides during air-cooling in the presence of tungsten. Light microscopy analysis revealed that for an alloy with 2.3. wt% carbon, chromium carbides possess coarse gray appearance (GA). Increasing the carbon content reduced the coarse GA zones volume fraction while a finer GA zones emerged. The coexistence of coarse and fine GA phases came to an end at 2.8. wt% carbon, at which only fine GA zones spread throughout the chromium...

    Abstract
In this research, 1050 aluminum sheets in the conditions of annealed and severely deformed by 2 passes of constrained groove pressing (CGP) process were used. Two passes of friction stir processing (FSP) were applied on the specimens. Also, another CGPed specimen was processed by 2 passes of FSP using SiC nanoparticles. The samples were then heat treated to study thermal stability of base metal, heat affected zone (HAZ), thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ), and stir zone (SZ). Microstructure examinations revealed that the annealed base metal was relatively stable upon heating even up to 400. °C and a little grain growth was evident. On the other hand, the CGPed base metal was fairly...

The results showed that in the coating with 12.5 g/L SiO2, the coating hardness enhanced from 453VH to 980 VH before and after heat treatment. Furthermore, the wear behavior of the coating was analyzed before and after heat treatment

    Abstract
This study investigated the effect of intercritical heat treatment temperature on the tensile properties, work hardening and corrosion resistance of dual phase steel. Ferrite-martensite dual phase steel with different martensite volume fractions were obtained after heat treatment at different intercritical temperatures. Microstructure, mechanical properties of steel were measured and the corrosion resistance was evaluated via polarization test. Tensile strength of the specimens increased by increasing the martensite volume fraction up to 48.2%. Further increase in martensite volume fraction led to decrease in tensile strength. Work hardening behavior analyzing showed that in DP steel with...

    Abstract
A simple method for synthesis of W17O47 nanothick plates by annealing sol-gel-deposited tungsten oxide thin films on soda lime substrate has been reported. After heat treatment of the dried thin films at 700 °C in N2 ambient for 60 min, W17O47 nanothick plates with [100] orientation were obtained. According to SEM observations, nanothick plates grew with random orientations on the surface. In addition, it was observed that some of the nanothick plates were constituted from several nanosheets. XRD analysis determined that the nanothick plates were mainly...
