    Abstract
    In all types of chromatography for the extraction and purification of proteins, a fixed substrate is needed with which the mobile phase containing the proteins interact with them. This fixed bed should contain grains that have characteristics such as sphericity, high surface area, hydrophilicity, binding power to functional groups, chemical stability, low specific absorption, reusability and low cost. Commercially, the most commonly substrates in the ranges of the molecular weight of proteins are agarose and dextran.     Abstract
    In this study, we attempt to synthesize novel acrylated agarose (ACAG)-based hydrogels with three different crosslinking densities. Acrylate groups were inserted onto agarose (AG) backbone through homogeneous reaction of acrylic monomers with AG backbone. Hydrogels were synthesized through radical copolymerization of a mixture of acrylic acid and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate with ACAG in aqueous solution using ammonium persulfate as an initiator. Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was carried out to confirm the chemical structure of the hydrogel. Moreover, morphology of the samples was assessed by scanning electron microscopy.     Abstract
    Three-dimensional biocompatible porous structures can be fabricated using different methods. However, the biological and mechanical behaviors of scaffolds are the center of focus in bone tissue engineering. In this study, tricalcium phosphate scaffolds with similar porosity contents but different pore morphologies were fabricated using two different techniques, namely, the replica method and the pore-forming agent method. The samples fabricated using the pore-forming agent showed more than two times higher compressive and bending strengths and more than three times higher compressive moduli.     Abstract
    A novel hydrogen sulfide microbial biosensor was developed based on investigating the influence of four design parameters: cell concentration, immobilization bed type, hydrogen sulfide concentration, and geometrical shape of the biosensor. Thiobacillus thioparus was used as the recognition element and it was immobilized on sodium alginate as well as agarose bed.
