    Abstract
This paper presents a neuro-predictive controller for temperature control of automotive air conditioning system. A numerical model for the automotive refrigeration cycle, which includes transient operating conditions, has been employed in simulations. In this model, which has been created from numerous laboratory tests on a typical passenger car, the vehicle is divided into two linked modules representing the air conditioning (A/C) system as well as the passenger compartment climate. Moreover, the thermal loads have been considered. This system demonstrates variable and large time delays, which is the case in reality. The simulation results show good performance of the proposed controller. ©...

    Abstract
In the last three decades, the world has experienced enormous increases in energy consumption as a consequence of the economic and population growth. This causes renewable energy and energy recovery to become a requirement in building designs rather than option. A direct expansion (DX) air conditioning system is an efficient way to supply fresh and dehumidified air to a built environment a long side it plays a key role in preventing the spread of respiratory diseases. To improve the efficiency of a conventional DX system in hot and humid regions, fresh air dehumidification and conditioning systems with energy recovery measures are the key equipment to reach such a goal. To achieve this goal...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rastegari, Amin (Author) ; Sadr Hosseini, Hani (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This experimental study evaluates the implementation of atmospheric water generator (AWG) apparatus for rural households to supply the needed water. Humid (atmospheric) air is sucked into the condenser and passed through an air filter by a fan; since the temperature of the condenser is lower than the ambient air temperature (dew point temperature), the moist in the atmospheric air is condensed and freshwater is collected which is stored in a tank and after 7 stages of purification will be ready to drink.Data of this project is obtained from Kish Island’s weather station to find the average temperature and humidity. Kish Island is chosen for this project because of its high humidity and...

    Abstract
The penetration of wind generation in distribution networks is steadily increasing and may provide ample business opportunities for aggregators. While, residential demand response (DR) has proven to be a feasible economic tool in smart grids, the quantitative evaluation of various aggregator-based DR services is required to tap the maximum benefits from the DR flexibility. This paper provides an overview of benefits of different DR aggregator services such as minimization of energy cost and wind curtailment given the scenario of large wind generation hosted by distribution network. An optimization model is formulated from aggregator perspective to manage the population of heating,...

    Abstract
In this study, an automotive air conditioning system is simulated by considering HFO-1234yf (2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene) as the drop-in replacement of HFC-134a. The simulated air conditioning system consists of a multi-louvered fin and flat-plate type evaporator, a wobble-plate type compressor, a mini-channel parallel-flow type condenser and a thermostatic expansion valve. The thermodynamic properties of the refrigerants are extracted from the REFPROP 8.0 software, and a computer program is simulated for the thermodynamic analysis. Two different conditions have been considered in this program for the cycle analysis: for the first state, the cooling capacity is taken as constant, and for the...

    Abstract
Proliferation of photovoltaic (PV) panels may cause voltage increases in low voltage (LV) distribution feeders. This issue confines PV hosting capacity of the feeders. To overcome this issue and enable higher PV hosting capacity, a model to manage the operation cycles of the domestic electric water heater and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning loads in order to avoid the voltage rise, thereby increasing PV hosting capacity in LV feeders is presented in this study. The model respects users' thermal comfort by setting the associated temperatures within allowed ranges. To preserve customers' privacy, the presented model is then decomposed into a master problem and several sub-problems...

    Abstract
HVAC systems that use heat-regenerated desiccant wheels to remove moisture can be energy-efficient alternatives to traditional systems. Site-specific conditions and differing application requirements must be understood and quantified before desiccant-assisted hybrid systems can be justified on economic grounds. Although a detailed analysis is generally required, a few key variables drive costs and benefits. When two or more of these key variables favor a hybrid system over a conventional system, then a detailed analysis of the benefits vs. costs of a hybrid desiccant system is appropriate

    Abstract
This paper presents the modeling of a desiccant wheel used for dehumidifying the ventilation air of an air-conditioning system. The simulation of the combined heat and mass transfer processes that occur in a solid desiccant wheel is carried out with MATLAB Simulink. Using the numerical method, the performance of an adiabatic rotary dehumidifier is parametrically studied, and the optimal rotational speed is determined by examining the outlet adsorption-side humidity profiles. The solutions of the simulation at different conditions used in air dehumidifier have been investigated according to the previous published studies. The model is validated through comparison the simulated results with...

    Abstract
Demand response (DR) will play an essential role in smart grids by contributing to the operational flexibility requirement arising from the increased penetration of intermittent renewable generation. However, DR activation could be hampered in the absence of intelligent network management. Real-time thermal rating (RTTR) functions as a smart network management tool for unlocking the network capacities by allowing the network to safely operate during overload states. This paper offers an optimal residential DR approach integrated with RTTR to balance the hourly wind power production. The proposed framework is modeled from the perspective of an electrical aggregator that manages the population...

    Abstract
In this paper, a reduced multiple-model predictive controller based on gap metric and stability margin is presented to control heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. To tackle the strong nonlinearity and large number of degrees of freedom in HVAC system, two approaches, called Reduced Order Model Bank-Multiple Model (ROMB-MM) and Multiple Model-Reduced Order Model (MM-ROM), are introduced. In the first approach, the order reduction is performed prior to multiple models selection and in the second one multiple models selection is implemented before the model order reduction. Furthermore, soft switching is employed to enhance the closed-loop performance as well as to gain...

    Abstract
We consider a demand response program in which a block of apartments receive a discount from their electricity supplier if they ensure that their aggregate load from air conditioning does not exceed a predetermined threshold. The goal of the participants is to obtain the discount, while ensuring that their individual temperature preferences are also satisfied. As such, the apartments need to collectively optimise their use of air conditioning so as to satisfy these constraints and minimise their costs. Given an optimal cooling profile that secures the discount, the problem that the apartments face then is to divide the total discounted cost in a fair way. To achieve this, we take a...

    Abstract
The high penetration of residential air conditioners (RACs) poses a growing concern in emerging fault-induceddelayed voltage recovery (FIDVR) in power systems. FIDVR is expected to be a significant threat to the stability and reliability offuture power grids. Hence, the system planners should carry out appropriate simulation studies to mitigate the severeconsequences of FIDVR events. A key question to implement these studies is how to determine the worst condition whichresults in FIDVR. Most of the actual FIDVR events have been experienced in the hot hours of the day and this issue makes onecurious to think about the relationship between the FIDVR events and the ambient temperature. In this...

New correlation for natural convection of finned tube A-type air cooler

    , Article Applied Thermal Engineering ; Volume 25, Issue 17-18 , 2005 , Pages 3053-3066 ; 13594311 (ISSN) Farhadi, F ; Davani, N ; Ardalan, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
The temperature distribution in a finned tube bundle of an A-type air cooler is investigated. The heat transfer is governed by natural convection. By using a special steam condenser the effect of steam pressure on temperature fields formed outside the bank of finned tubes is studied. It is found that the distribution is approximately the same at various pressures with minor differences. The effects of two-phase flow on temperature distribution are also considered. All 3D temperature contours show maximum values, which highly depend on steam pressures. Moreover, asymmetric steam feeding and probable fouling inside the tubes are possible causes of contour shapes. The experimental Nusselt...
