    Abstract
Many modern industrialized systems such as aircrafts, rotating turbines, satellite booms, etc. cannot perform their desired tasks accurately if their uninhibited structural vibrations are not controlled properly. Structural health monitoring and online reliability calculations are emerging new means to handle system imposed uncertainties. As stochastic forcing are unavoidable, in most engineering systems, it is often needed to take them into the account for the control design process. In this research, smart material technology is utilized for structural health monitoring and control in order to keep the system in a reliable performance range. In this regard, a reliability-based cost...

Response Spectrum of Retrofitted Structures with Composite Materials to Some Externally Applied Loads

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pahlevanpour, Amirhossein (Author) ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, the use of advanced composite materialsin different structureshas been increased and many industriesextend application of these high-tech materials because of their very high ratio of strength to weight and variation in ply configurationsuch asdifferent fiber angles which can control the response of these planes due to design requirements. One the most recent applications of such materials inreinforcing various structures are preventing crack propagation in aircraft structures and strengthening buildings against earthquakes which have been developed considerably. But, a lot of intact topics in this criterion are available which should be studied carefully. So, according to what was...

Implication, Testing and Application of Composite Patches for Aviation Industry Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moezzy Moein, Hossein (Author) ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
An aerial structure can be at the disposal of the owners of damage or intellectual property during its lifetime, under the supervision of static and dynamic loads and providing information in the field of recognizing temperature, humidity and environmental pressure with high-speed gradient. Capable Composite patches are used to repair damaged areas. Composite patches have unique properties such as high strength to weight ratio and corrosion resistance. In structures modified with a composite patch, various failures occur during loading, including: fiber breakage, matrix fracture, separation of fibers from the matrix or the latest patch from the main structure and failure of the metal...

Investigating and Designing Different Parameters of Composite Patch for Damaged Pipe

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ziyarati Yazdeli, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Abedian, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This paper presents, various parameters of the composite patch for repairing and reinforcement the damaged composite pipe have been investigated. There are various parameters of the composite patch such as Laminate orientation, length, width, material and thickness of the patch. by changing these parameters in each analysis and comparing the results, the optimal patch for the damaged pipe is determined

Patch materials selection for ageing metallic aircraft structure using digital quantitative materials selection methods

    , Article 27th Congress of the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences 2010, ICAS 2010, 19 September 2010 through 24 September 2010 ; Volume 3 , 2010 , Pages 1873-1881 ; 9781617820496 (ISBN) Fouladi, E ; Fayazbakhsh, K ; Abedian, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
When aircrafts reach the end of their service life, fatigue cracks are found to have developed along rivet holes andother highly stressed regions of aircrafts. In order to extend the life of these aircrafts, repairs should be made to arrest these cracks.Composite doublers or repair patches provide an innovative repair technique, which can enhance the waywhich aircrafts are maintained.Bonded repair of metallic aircraft structure is used to extend the life of flawed or under-designed components at reasonable cost.Such repairs generally have one of three objectives: fatigue enhancement, crack patching or corrosion repair.Repair of cracked structure may be performed,by bonding an external patch to...
