Investigation on Optical and Catalytic Properties of Noble Metallic Nanoparticles in SiO2 and TiO2 Matrix

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sangpour, Parvaneh (Author) ; Moshfegh, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Akhavan, Omid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Doping metal or semiconductor nanoparticles in transparent matrix have attracted much attention for practical application in recent years. From fundamental veiw point, limiting the charge carriers and exitons in nanometric scales resulted in new quantum phenomena. In this context, transparent films containing metal nanoparticles shows an absorption peak in visible region of spectrom. Thus, by choosing an appropriate metal and controlling the size and concentration of particles in corresponding matrix, we can provide coatings with a wide rang of colors. Furthermore, thin films containing metal or metal oxide nanoparticles had been considered as nanostructure materials in research and...

Designing A Colorimetric Sensor Array Based on Gold, Silver and Gold-Silver Alloy Nanoparticles for Detection and Discrimination of Pesticides

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kalantari, Kimia (Author) ; Hormozinezhad, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to the widespread use of pesticides and their harmful effects on humans and wildlife, monitoring their residual amounts in crops is critically essential but still challenging regarding the development of high-throughput approaches. Herein, a colorimetric sensor array has been proposed for discrimination and identification of triazole fungicides using monometallic and bimetallic silver and gold nanoparticles. Aggregation-induced behavior of AgNPs, AuNPs and Au-AgNPs in the presence of four triazole fungicides produced a fingerprint response pattern for each analyte. Pattern recognition methods, including linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and hierarchical cluster analysis, have been...

Formation of Lanthanum hydroxide nanostructures: effect of NaOH and KOH solvents

    , Article International Journal of Engineering, Transactions B: Applications ; Volume 21, Issue 2 , 2008 , Pages 169-176 ; 1728-144X (ISSN) Mazloumi, M ; Zanganeh, S ; Kajbafvala, A ; Shayegh, M. R ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Lanthanum hydroxide (La(OH)3) nanostructures, including elliptical nanoparticles, octahedral rods and irregular nanoparticles were prepared chemically in NaOH and KOH solutions with 10 M concentration. The obtained powders were characterized with XRD, SEM, TEM and DTA. Crystallinities, morphologies and thermal behavior of the obtained nanostructure powders were investigated under the influence of above mentioned solvents. The effect of chemical's temperature was also determined in one of the solvents (i.e. NaOH). The formation of growth in nanostructure mechanism under the influence of alkali solutions (i.e., KOH and NaOH) have been discussed considerably in this paper

The effect of Au/Ag ratios on surface composition and optical properties of co-sputtered alloy nanoparticles in Au-Ag:SiO2 thin films

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 486, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 22-28 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Sangpour, P ; Akhavan, O ; Zaker Moshfegh, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Gold-silver alloy nanoparticles with various Au concentrations in sputtered SiO2 thin films were synthesized by using RF reactive magnetron co-sputtering and then heat-treated in reducing Ar + H2 atmosphere at different temperatures. The UV-visible absorption spectra of the bimetallic systems confirmed the formation of alloy nanoparticles. The optical absorption of the Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles exhibited only one plasmon resonance absorption peak located at 450 nm between the absorption bands of pure Au and Ag nanoparticles at 400 and 520 nm, respectively, for the thin films annealed at 800 °C. The maximum absorption wavelength of the surface plasmon band showed a red shift with increasing...

Single and double stage sintering of mechanically alloyed powder for nanostructured Ti6Al4V foams usable in cancellous scaffolds

    , Article International Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering ; Volume 7, Issue 1 , 2013 , Pages 43-48 ; 17495148 (ISSN) Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Aryana, M ; Hassanzadeh Nemati, N ; Alizadeh, M ; Ebadifar, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Mechanical alloying and sintering were used to fabricate nanostructured Ti6Al4V scaffolds of highly controllable pore geometry and fully interconnected porous network. Elemental powders were milled for different periods of time (10, 20, 30, 40 and 60 h), mixed with 40-60 vol.-% of 200-400 μm cuboidal NaCl, compacted at 500-600 MPa and sintered according to single or double stage heat treatment regimes at 790 and 950°C under vacuum. After sintering, the samples were soaked in distilled water to washout the NaCl. Foamy microstructures were obtained showing well shaped biopores and fragmentary embedded micropores. The shape of initial NaCl was copied into the biopores which had highly...

Facile synthesis of monodisperse thermally immiscible Ag-Ni alloy nanoparticles at room temperature

    , Article Bulletin of Materials Science ; Vol. 37, issue. 6 , 2014 , pp. 1447-1452 Tabatabaei, S ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Ag and Ni are immiscible, mainly due to their large lattice mismatch. This paper reports on their nanoscale formation of solid solution at room temperature by simple reduction reactions which lead to the amorphous Ag-Ni alloy nanoparticles (ANPs) with mono-disperse distribution. Microscopic and spectroscopic studies confirmed dependence of the alloy composition on size of nanoparticles. In the presence of different ligands such as sodium citrate, polyvinyl alcohol and potassium carbonate a mixture of silver oxide and Ag-Ni ANPs was achieved. Stoichiometry of the Ag-Ni ANPs was also found to be strongly dependent on ligands of the reduction reaction and further study shows without any ligand...

A plastic-yield compaction model for nanostructured Al6063 alloy and Al6063/Al2O3 nanocomposite powder

    , Article Powder Technology ; Volume 211, Issue 2-3 , 2011 , Pages 215-220 ; 00325910 (ISSN) Asgharzadeh, H ; Simchi, A ; Kim, H. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A modified plastic yield function is proposed to predict the consolidation behavior of nanostructured metal powders and metal-matrix nanocomposite powders under uniaxial compaction. The validity of the model is verified for nanocrystalline Al6063 (~100nm) alloy reinforced without and with 0.8vol.% Al2O3 nanoparticles (~25nm). The plastic deformation propensity of these powders is analyzed by linear compaction equations. The yield stress of the powder compacts is shown to be influenced by the nano-scale grains and the reinforcement nanoparticles
