    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 21, Issue 6 , 2014 , Pages 2468-2478 ; ISSN: 10263098 Vahidshad, Y ; Ghasemzadeh, R ; Zad, A. I ; Mirkazemi, S. M ; Masoud, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
CuMS2 (M=A1, In, Fe) ternary compounds were synthesized via the facile polyol method in autoclave. Depending on the functional groups of solvent and surfactant, the structure of the nanocrystals can be controlled in the form of wurtzite or chalcopyrite. The chalcopyrite structure was obtained when the precursors solved in the mixture of diethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol 600 and ammonium hydroxide. When the solvent was replaced by ethylene diamine, the wurtzite was obtained along with chalcopyrite (polytypism). The products were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) for analysis of structural properties, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) for studying morphological...

    Abstract
Nanofluids containing Fe3O4 and carbon nanotubes nanoparticles emulsified and dispersed using gum arabic (GA) and tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) were made and characterized for potential use as heat transfer fluids. Due to the interaction between the TMAH and GA molecules, the magnetic nanoparticles and CNTs were physically adsorbed. This paper reports an experimental work on the effect of ultrasonication on thermal conductivity of this aqueous suspension. The characterization and surface morphology of the dried samples were studied by using XRD and TEM measurements. Experiments were conducted in the magnetic nanoparticles mass concentration range 0.494-2.428%,...

    Abstract
A novel combined power and refrigeration cycle is introduced and analyzed from the thermodynamic standpoint. The proposed cycle is an integration of a Kalina cycle equipped with an ejector (EKalina) and an ejector refrigeration cycle (ERC). In order to enhance the overall cycle performance, the possibility of employing two-phase ejectors in combined power and refrigeration cycles is studied. A parametric analysis is conducted to investigate the effects of the key thermodynamic parameters namely turbine inlet pressure, split ratio, basic ammonia concentration, heat source and evaporator temperatures on the cycle performance. The developed model is also verified with available data and it is...

    Abstract
In this study, solvent extraction method has been utilized for separation of molybdenum and vanadium from nitrate solution by utilizing coupling of acid and solvating extractants (D2EHPA and TBP extractants). The outcomes demonstrated that synergistic solvent extraction improves stability of formatted complexes for transfer to the organic phase. The main parameters such as pH value, concentration of extractants, NH4OH concentration as the stripping agent and contact time were optimized at 0.4, 15% (v/v) D2EHPA, 10% (v/v) TBP, 2 M and 30 min, respectively. The maximum separation factor of 24.84 was obtained with a new synergistic mixture of D2EHPA and TBP diluted with kerosene. According to...

The results indicate that a suitable composition for stripping is 1.5 M NH4OH and 0.6 M NH4F. Furthermore, a modified correlation based on dimensionless numbers was derived for the prediction of continuous phase mass transfer in the...

    Abstract
Through a fast, simple, low cost, surfactant-free and convenient microwave-assisted route, narcis-like ZnO nanostructures (10-15 nm size) with flower diameters in the range of 1-2.5 μm were synthesized. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and room temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurements were used to characterize the produced ZnO nanostructures. The principle raw materials - ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) and zinc acetate dihydrate [Zn(CH3COO)2·2H2O] - were both inexpensive. The method was fast, simple and surfactant-free capable of producing larger quantities of zinc oxide...

    Abstract
Novel polyampholytic superabsorbing nanocomposites based on the zwitterionic sulfobetaine monomer [3-(methacrylamido)propyl)]dimethyl(3- sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide were synthesized through in situ polymerization in aqueous solution with different contents of an organo-modified clay (OMMT, Cloisite 30B). Structural and thermomechanical properties of hydrogels were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, and DMTA, respectively. Swollen gel strength of hydrogels was determined by a rheological method. Storage modulus of the hydrogels was considerably improved in comparison with its the clay-free counterpart. The nanocomposite hydrogel containing 15% OMMT possessed the highest gel strength. The glass...

Solvent extraction of molybdenum (VI) and tungsten (VI) by synergism of the mixture of D2EHPA and TBP were conducted in the RDC extractor with perforated structure. The initial aqueous pH, extractant concentration, ammonium hydroxide concentration as a stripping agent, and synergistic enhancement factor were optimized in the initial experiments before collecting column data. In the RDC column, the influence of agitation rate and inlet phase velocities were examined on the hydrodynamic velocities, mass transfer data, and distribution coefficients. The finding data indicated that the impact of agitation speed on the distribution coefficients of molybdenum and tungsten is considerable in...

Electrochemical investigation of electrodeposited Fe-Pd alloy thin films

    , Article Electrochimica Acta ; Volume 56, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 483-490 ; 00134686 (ISSN) Rezaei, M ; Ghorbani, M ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In the present study, the electrodeposition of Fe, Pd and Fe-Pd alloys, in alkaline solutions, has been investigated. Using ammonium hydroxide and trisodium citrate as the complexing agents, it has been shown that the co-deposition of Fe and Pd is achieved due to diminishing the difference between the reduction potentials of these two metals. Cyclic voltammetry results clearly show that the electrodeposition processes are diffusion-controlled and the diffusion coefficients of Fe2+ and Pd2+ are 1.11 × 10-6 and 2.19 × 10-5 cm2 s -1, respectively. The step potential experiments reveal that nucleation mechanism is instantaneous with a typical three-dimensional (3D) growth. At low overpotentials,...
