Warranty servicing for discretely degrading items with non-zero repair time under renewing warranty

    Abstract
This paper considers a repair-replacement strategy for a special class of discretely degrading and repairable products under renewing free replacement warranty. Each product may experience N different working states with different exponential hazard functions, before the warranty contract expires. Once the item enters working state i (i = 1,2, ⋯ ,N), it can either fail or move to any of the subsequent working states with different probabilities, given that a transition has been made. In the former case, the best rectification action, replacement or minimal repair, regarding the failure status, i.e., the product degradation level at the failure time and the remaining warranty time, should be...

Nonlinear performance analysis of forced carbon nanotube-based bio-mass sensors

    Abstract
In this effort, an analytical solution is proposed for the large amplitude nonlinear vibrations of doubly clamped carbon nanotube (CNT)-based nano-scale bio-mass sensors. The single walled CNT is modeled as an elastic Euler–Bernoulli nano-scale beam and the size effects are introduced into the mathematical model of the system through Eringen’s nonlocal elastic field theory. The nonlinearity arises due to mid-plane stretching of the bridged CNT, and is accounted for as the von Kármán nonlinearity. The impacts of deposited nano-scale bio-object, its geometrical properties, and its landing position along the longitudinal axis of the CNT-based resonator are considered. The nonlinear equations of...

Bifurcation analysis of milling process with tool wear and process damping: Regenerative chatter with primary resonance

    Abstract
In this paper, the occurrence of various types of bifurcation including symmetry breaking, period-doubling (flip) and secondary Hopf (Neimark) bifurcations in milling process with tool-wear and process damping effects are investigated. An extended dynamic model of the milling process with tool flank wear, process damping and nonlinearities in regenerative chatter terms is presented. Closed form expressions for the nonlinear cutting forces are derived through their Fourier series components. Non-autonomous parametrically excited equations of the system with time delay terms are developed. The multiple-scale approach is used to construct analytical approximate solutions under primary...
