A practical application of the Delphi method in maintenance-targeted resource allocation of distribution utilities
, Article 2014 International Conference on Probabilistic Methods Applied to Power Systems, PMAPS 2014 - Conference Proceedings ; 2014 ; ISBN: 9781480000000 ; Moeini-Aghtaie, M ; Fotuhi-Firuzabad, M ; Billinton, R ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Trying to find the most efficient and cost-effective decisions on the maintenance of different component types in power distribution systems is an increasingly challenging concern largely driven by the current financial constraints in distribution utilities worldwide. In regard to deal with this challenge, the paper presents a practical application of the Delphi method and the Modified Analytical Hierarchical Process (MAHP) that can be used to find the most critical component types of the system in order to assist in accordingly allocating the available maintenance budget. The proposed approach involves the experience and knowledge held by experts and the historical empirical performance...
A practical approach on optimal RTU placement in power distribution systems incorporating fuzzy sets theory
, Article International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems ; Volume 37, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 31-42 ; 01420615 (ISSN) ; Dehghanian, P ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) infrastructures have so far been brought into the huge amount of focus since the need for a more reliable power system accosting with the catastrophic events of interruptions has been raised. Hence, benefiting from an automation technology which can remotely monitor and coordinate commands to enable immediate response and switching are obviously inevitable. This paper outlines an implementable method in response to the goal of placement of remote terminal units (RTUs) which are in charge for data acquisition and control in a power distribution system. In this light, a new practical methodology based on the robust decision making (DM) method,...
Incorporating experts knowledge in RTU placement procedure using fuzzy sets theory-a practical approach
, Article INTELEC, International Telecommunications Energy Conference (Proceedings), 9 October 2011 through 13 October 2011 ; October , 2011 , Page(s): 1 - 10 ; 02750473 (ISSN) ; 9781457712494 (ISBN) ; Razi Kazemi, A. A ; Karami, G ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
So far, the need for power systems to be control automated has been approached. Moreover, the advent of smart technological infrastructures calls for a more systematic and well-designed schemes for data acquisition process. Hence, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) are going to be considered as a crucial part of smart grid puzzle in power distribution systems. This paper aims to present a novel practical approach to have the RTU placement dilemma unraveled in power distribution systems. Practically approaching in this paper, some pragmatic factors of major importance in this respect are introduced. A framework with which the utility's experts' knowledge could be efficiently exploited is presented...

Abstract
The present context of the electric industry, characterized by competitive markets, privatization, and regulatory of technical requirements forces the power utilities to optimize their asset management practices and develop the requisite decision plans techno-economically. Practically approaching, this paper devises a new support tool based on a multiattribute decision making (MADM) framework in combination with analytical hierarchical process (AHP) to determine the most critical components of power transmission systems. Measure of system-wide reliability performance, outage cost, marginal clearing prices demonstrative of market fairness, and network losses are among the attributes...
