    Abstract
Stabilised titania sols were prepared using an additive free particulate sol-gel route, via electrostatic stabilisation mechanism, with various processing parameters. Peptisation temperature, 50°C and 70°C, and TiO2 concentration, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 molar, were chosen as processing parameters during sol preparation. Results from TiO2 particle size and zeta potential of sols revealed that the smallest titania hydrodynamic diameter (13 nm) and the highest zeta potential (47.7 mV) were obtained for the sol produced at the lower peptisation temperature of 50°C and lower TiO 2 concentration of 0.1 M. On the other hand, between the sols prepared at 70°C, smaller titania particles (20 nm) and higher...

Hierarchical rutile/anatase TiO 2 nanorod/nanoflower thin film: Synthesis and characterizations

    Abstract
Hierarchical TiO 2 nanorod/nanoflower thin film was synthesized on fluorine doped tin oxide glass via hydrothermal and aqueous chemistry methods. According to field emission scanning electron microscopy results, the thin film was crack-free and uniform. Primary nanorods had an average diameter of 95 nm and a length of 2 µm. They were perpendicular to the substrate owing to the TiO 2 prenucleation. Growth of the nanoflowers on the nanorods could increase both the specific surface area and roughness. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy showed that the nanorods were rutile; while the nanoflowers were anatase. Efficient electron transfer from anatase to rutile could therefore occur....

New insight into reaction mechanisms of TiCl4 for the synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles in H2O-assisted atmospheric-pressure CVS process

    Abstract
Crystalline anatase TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized in the gas phase using an H2O-assisted atmospheric-pressure CVS process. Simultaneous oxidation/hydrolysis of TiCl4 in the H2O-assisted APCVS process demonstrates the feasibility of facile fabrication and the designed synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles in atmospheric pressure. Kinetics and thermodynamics studies of TiCl4 reactions in the gas phase illustrated oxidation or hydrolysis domination theoretically and were confirmed by experimental runs. Effects of H2O/O2 ratio on the reactions mechanisms, phase formation, size characteristics, morphology, and purity of TiO2 nanoparticles were experimentally studied using various analytical...
