    Abstract
A highly chemoselective methodology is described for the N-methylation of functionalized anilines with dimethyl carbonate (MeOCO2Me, DMC) in the presence of ZrOCl2·8H2O. Dimethyl carbonate, which usually promotes methylation at T > 120 C and eventually under inert atmosphere, was activated in the presence of zirconium oxychloride for the desired transformation at 90 C under aerobic conditions. Aminophenols showed good reactivity in this transformation and produced the corresponding N-methylanilines, as the major products, with high selectivity. Catalyst reusability study confirmed that ZrOCl2·8H2O is a recyclable catalyst and its catalytic activity was remained unchanged at least after eight...

    , Article Journal of the Electrochemical Society ; Volume 154, Issue 8 , 2007 , Pages P93-P100 ; 00134651 (ISSN) Lashgari, M ; Arshadi, M. R ; Sastri, V. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
The molecular behavior of some aniline derivatives as corrosion inhibitors of iron and copper in acidic media (HCl and H2 S O4) were investigated quantum-electrochemically by some recently developed models based on density functional theory and cluster/polarized continuum approaches. In this regard, electrical dipole moment, charges on hetero atoms and acidic hydrogen, electronic chemical potential, and extent of charge transfer were determined for both neutral and protonated forms of molecules inside an electrical double layer and correlated to their inhibitory powers. Good correlations were observed for both acidic media. The results were discussed via ion-pair hypothesis and deprotonation...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nayebi Gavgani, Hadi (Author) ; Saidi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Ziyaei Halimehjani, Azim (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, a catalyst-free Mannich reaction is applied for synthesis of 1,3-oxazines as an important class of biologically active compounds. In order to consider environmental application a mixture of water and ethanol is selected as a solvent for the reaction of 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene with formaldehyde and an amine. Primary consideration of substitution effect on the reaction revealed that aniline and its derivatives with electron-donating substituent and halogens, cause higher yield. Aliphatic amines are not good substrate for this reaction with the exception of benzyl amine

    Abstract
This study describes an efficient method for ortho-selective halogenation of N-arylcarbamates under mild conditions for the first time. Although being weakly coordinating, N-arylcarbamates act very well as a removable directing group for activation of C-H bonds. The developed procedure results in extremely valuable halogenated N-arylcarbmates that can further be hydrolyzed to halogenated anilines. The obtained reaction conditions showed broad scope and wide functional group tolerance. All the products were formed in good yields with extremely high selectivity

    Abstract
An easily synthesized fluorescent probe for detecting copper in aqueous samples, with a short response time and at neutral pH, has been investigated. Through the chelation of Cu2+ ions or by binding to CuO nanoparticles, the fluorescence emission of the 2-(aminomethyl)aniline derivative H2L is quenched by over 50%. Spectroscopic determination of the association constants of H2L with some metal ions showed that the ligand has a higher affinity toward Cu2+ than toward other d-block metal ions. The comparative bonding ability of the aniline-based fluorescent probe in d-block metal complexes was studied in solution by a combination of UV-Vis, 1H NMR and mass spectrometry analyses. Besides these,...

    Abstract
The synthesis of diamino triphenyl methanes from aniline and aromatic aldehydes was conducted in near critical water and supercritical water. The reaction parameters, such as temperature, density, and reaction time, have been studied. Significant acceleration of the condensation reaction of aniline and aromatic aldehydes can be achieved by using high temperature water, especially near the critical point, in the absence of any acid catalysts. It has been demonstrated that high temperature water act effectively in the place of conventional acid catalysts

    , Article International Journal of Chemical Kinetics ; Volume 39, Issue 12 , December , 2007 , Pages 681-687 ; 05388066 (ISSN) Harifi Mood, A ; Habibi Yangjeh, A ; Gholami, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Rate constants, kA. for the aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction of 2-chloro-3,5-dinitropyridine with aniline were determined in different compositions of 1-(1-butyl)-3-methylimidazolium terafluoroborate ([bmim]BF4) mixed with water, methanol, and ethanol at 25°C. The obtained rate constants of the reaction in pure solvents are in the following order: water > methanol > ethanol > [bmim]BF4. In these solutions, rate constants of the reaction decrease with the mole fraction of the ionic liquid. Single-parameter correlations of log kA versus normalized polarity parameter (ETN), hydrogen bond acceptor basicity (β), hydrogen bond donor acidity (α), and dipolarity/polarizability (π*) do not...

Parameters including the desorption solvent, amount of sorbent, desorption time, sample...

Synthesis and Investigation of Electrochromic Component Stimuli- Esponsive Based on Aniline Pentamer

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei Zangeneh, Moein (Author) ; Pourjavdi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of polyaniline as an electrochromic conductive polymer was highly regarded. However, due to problems such as poor solubility, the researchers decided to use aniline oligomer as an alternative. Meanwhile, aniline pentamer received more attention due to its good solubility in organic solvents and acceptable conductivity. On the other hand, it is possible to increase the conductivity and also to respond more to stimuli to groups that have certain characteristics. In this study, aniline pentamer and carbazole-derived were used. First, nitro and bromoethanol groups are added to carbazole. Due to its fluorescence properties, carbazole can, in addition to increasing the conductivity, which...

    Abstract
Aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction kinetics of 2-chloro-3,5-dinitropyridine with aniline was studied in aqueous solutions of methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol at room temperature. The obtained results for aqueous solutions indicate that the second-order rate constants are in order of 2-propanol>ethanol>methanol with a maximum at water mole fraction of 0.9. The influence of solvent parameters including normalized polarity (E TN), dipolarity/polarisability (π*), and hydrogen bond donor acidity (α) on the second-order rate constants were investigated and multiple regressions gave much better results with regard to single parameter regressions. Dipolarity/polarisability and hydrogen...

Morphology transition control of polyaniline from nanotubes to nanospheres in a soft template method

    , Article Polymer International ; Volume 64, Issue 1 , June , 2015 , Pages 88-95 ; 09598103 (ISSN) Pirhady Tavandashti, N ; Ghorbani, M ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
John Wiley and Sons Ltd  2015
    Abstract
A soft template route is reported for the fabrication of polyaniline nanospheres via the oxidative polymerization of aniline in the presence of β-naphthalenesulfonic acid (β-NSA) as both surfactqant and dopant, and ammonium persulfate as oxidant at 2-5°C. Control over the morphology and size of the nanoparticles was achieved by changing the reaction medium via addition of an organic cosolvent (i.e. ethanol or ethylene glycol) and by controlling the concentrations of aniline and β-NSA and the molar ratio of β-NSA to aniline. By this means the size of the β-NSA-aniline micelles and the way that aniline monomer interacts with the micelles were controlled. In fact the lower dielectric constant...

    Abstract
Catalysts as the dynamo of chemical reactions along with solvents play paramount roles in organic transformations in long-lasting modes. Thus, developing effective and biobased catalysts in nontoxic solvents is highly in demand. In this report, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) functionalized with-lysine (Lys-CQDs) were generated from entirely nature-derived materials; they were demonstrated to be a promising catalyst for C-N bond formation in choline chloride urea (ChCl/U), a natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES). Among a number of synthesized CQDs, Lys-CQD turned out to be a powerful catalyst in the model reaction with aniline to afford phenyl urea. This type of transformation is important...
