Design and Manufacturing of a Multi Functional Device For Experimental Fatigue Test and Special Facilities for Symmetric and Anti Symmetric Loading on Gears

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Armin, Amir (Author) ; Durali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The goal of this research is design and manufacturing of a device for fatigue test and 3D crack propagation in spur gear roots. Clearly it should be able to test gear in oscillated bending load and control the amplitude and period of loading. Designed setup in this project using a electro hydraulic actuator can do it up to 50 KN and 10 Hz in amplitude and frequency and a PLC controls it during the test time. System can load gears symmetric or anti symmetric and simulate the effect of shaft misalignments, bearing damage and gear production tolerances on the gear loading. System completely designed, built and tested during this project and using experimental data, its performance was...

Symmetrization and entanglement of arbitrary states of qubits

    , Article Physics Letters, Section A: General, Atomic and Solid State Physics ; Volume 313, Issue 5-6 , 2003 , Pages 330-337 ; 03759601 (ISSN) Asoudeh, M ; Karimipour, V ; Memarzadeh, L ; Rezakhani, A. T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Given two arbitrary pure states |φ〉 and |ψ〉 of qubits or higher level states, we provide arguments in favor of states of the form (1/√2)(|ψ〉|φ〉 + i|φ〉|ψ〉) instead of symmetric or anti-symmetric states, as natural candidates for optimally entangled states constructed from these states. We show that such states, firstly have on the average a high value of concurrence, secondly can be constructed by a universal unitary operator independent of the input states. We also show that these states are the only ones which can be produced with perfect fidelity, by any quantum operation designed for intertwining two pure states with a relative phase. A probabilistic method is proposed for producing any...

    Abstract
In this paper, we analyze a cylindrical waveguide consisting of two layers of bianisotropic material with anti-symmetric magnetoelectric coupling tensors. The analysis is carried out in terms of pseudo-electric and pseudo-magnetic fields which satisfy Maxwells' equations with gyrotropic permittivity and permeability tensors. We show that the rotationally symmetric modes of the waveguide are unidirectional with transverse pseudo-electric and transverse pseudo-magnetic modes propagating in opposite directions. These modes are surface waves whose electromagnetic field is concentrated near the interface between the two anisotropic materials. They follow the contour of the interface even in the...

A successive boundary element model for investigation of sloshing frequencies in axisymmetric multi baffled containers

    , Article Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements ; Volume 37, Issue 2 , 2013 , Pages 383-392 ; 09557997 (ISSN) Ebrahimian, M ; Noorian, M. A ; Haddadpour, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This study presents a developed successive Boundary Element Method to determine the symmetric and antisymmetric sloshing natural frequencies and mode shapes for multi baffled axisymmetric containers with arbitrary geometries. The developed fluid model is based on the Laplace equation and Green's theorem. The governing equations of fluid dynamic and free surface boundary condition are also applied to proposed model. A zoning method is presented to model arbitrary arrangement of baffles in multi baffled axisymmetric tanks. The influence of each zone on neighboring zones is applied by introducing interface influence matrix which correlates the velocity potential of interfaces to their flux. By...

Long-lived and unstable modes of Brownian suspensions in microchannels

    Abstract
We investigate the stability of the pressure-driven, low-Reynolds-number flow of Brownian suspensions with spherical particles in microchannels. We find two general families of stable/unstable modes: (i) degenerate modes with symmetric and antisymmetric patterns; (ii) single modes that are either symmetric or antisymmetric. The concentration profiles of degenerate modes have strong peaks near the channel walls, while single modes diminish there. Once excited, both families would be detectable through high-speed imaging. We find that unstable modes occur in concentrated suspensions whose velocity profiles are sufficiently flattened near the channel centreline. The patterns of growing unstable...

Boundary-layer hygrothermal stresses in laminated, composite, circular, cylindrical shell panels

    , Article Archive of Applied Mechanics ; Volume 80, Issue 4 , 2010 , Pages 413-440 ; 09391533 (ISSN) Nosier, A ; Miri, A. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Free-edge effects in laminated, circular, cylindrical shell panels subjected to hygrothermal loading are studied by utilizing displacement-based technical theories. Starting from the most general displacement field of elasticity for long, circular, cylindrical shells, appropriate reduced displacement fields are determined for laminated composite shell panels with cross-ply and antisymmetric angle-ply layups. An equivalent single-layer shell theory is used to analytically determine the constant parameters appearing in the reduced displacement fields. A layerwise shell theory is then employed to analytically determine the local displacement functions and the boundary-layer interlaminar...
