Exchange flow between a canopy and open water

    Abstract
This paper theoretically and experimentally investigates the exchange flow due to temperature differences between open water and a canopy of aquatic plants. A numerical model is used to study the interfacial shape, frontal velocity and total volumetric exchange, and their dependence on a dimensionless vegetation drag parameter. The numerical predictions are consistent with the laboratory measurements. There is a short initial period in which the force balance is between buoyancy and inertia, followed by drag-dominated flow for which there is a balance between buoyancy and drag forces. After the initial stage, the gravity current propagating into the canopy takes a triangular shape whereas...

Effects of soft marine fouling on wave-induced forces in floating aquaculture cages: Physical model testing under regular waves

    Abstract
Previous experiments on the fouling/current and fouling/wave interactions were mostly limited to two dimensional (2D) net panels or isolated twines. The current paper deals with the wave-induced forces/moments in three dimensional (3D) physical models of a gravity net-cage. The colonial hydroid Ectopleura larynx, a common fouling organism in the aquaculture industry, was artificially modelled and considered in the current experiments. A clean cage and cages with different fouling lengths were tested under deep-water regular wave trains. The time series of the wave-induced forces/moments in the surge, sway, roll and pitch degrees of freedom were recorded and analysed. The experimental results...

    Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens LFB112 on the growth performance, carcass traits, immune response, and serum biochemical parameters of broiler chickens. A total of 396 1 day old, mixed-sex commercial Ross 308 broilers with similar body weights were allotted into six treatment groups. The assigned groups were the CON group (basal diet with no supplement), AB (antibiotics) group (basal diet + 150 mg of aureomycin/kg), C+M group (basal diet + 5 × 108 CFU/kg B. amyloliquefaciens LFB112 powder with vegetative cells + metabolites), C group (basal diet + 5 × 108 CFU/kg B. amyloliquefaciens LFB112 vegetative cell powder with removed metabolites), M group...
