    Abstract
A fuzzy controller has been suggested for attitude control of magnetic actuated satellites in order to calculate the desired mechanical torque based on the attitude error including error in the angles and their rates. The problem of selecting proper magnetic dipole based on the known desired mechanical torque has been investigated, two different methods for the purpose has been suggested and the performance of the attained fuzzy magnetic attitude controllers has been shown under two different simulated conditions. © 2009 IEEE

Attitude control of satellites with delay in attitude measurement

    , Article 2013 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, ICRA 2013 ; 2013 , Pages 947-952 ; 10504729 (ISSN); 9781467356411 (ISBN) Bahrami, S ; Namvar, M ; Aghili, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Time delay in attitude sensors is one of the performance limiting factors in controlling the satellite attitude. In this paper, we investigate attitude control of a fully actuated satellite in presence of constant and known delay in attitude measurement. The proposed controller consists of a matrix gain which is computed by solving a time varying matrix differential equation depending on the time delay. We assume that the moment-of-inertia matrix of the satellite is unknown. The controller guarantees asymptotic convergence of the satellite attitude and angular velocity to their desired values in presence of delay. Finally, a simulation example is presented that illustrates performance of the...

    Abstract
In this paper, a new control strategy for optimal attitude tracking control of a multivariable satellite system has been presented. The approach is based on Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) and classical PD Controller for its initial stabilization. It is shown how the network can be employed as a multivariable self- organizing and self learning controller in conjunction with a PD controller for attitude control of a satellite. By using four reaction wheels and quaternion for kinematics representation, the attitude dynamics of the satellite has been presented. In contrast to the previous classical approaches, it is shown how this controller can be carried out in an on-line manner...

Satellite Attitude Determination and Control in Presence of Time Delay

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Bahrami, Somayeh (Author) ; Namvar, Mehrzad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Attitude determination and control system (ADCS) design is usually based on using measurements provided by rate gyros or attitude sensors such as Sun, Earth-magnetic, Earthhorizon and star trackers. In many practical scenarios, vector measurements provided by attitude sensors and the corresponding reference vectors are available with time delay while the angular velocity is measured by Gyro without significant delay. Time delay can cause ADCS performance degradation and even instability of the closed-loop system. Due to the nonlinearity of satellite dynamics and kinematics, controller and observer design in presence of measurement delays has its own complexity. Hence, despite its...

Attitude Estimation and Control of Satellite Using Noisy Measurements

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Firoozi, Dena (Author) ; Namvar, Mehrzad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Satellite attitude determination means specifying its rotation relative to a known reference. To determine satellite attitude, gyroscope is used to measure angular velocity and attitude sensors such as sun sensor, magnetometer, star tracker and earth horizon scanner are used in order to obtain vector measurements. In kinematic control, satellite angular velocity is determined in a way that its attitude converges to desired attitude. Usually, gyroscope and attitude sensors measurements are contaminated by noise which leads to errors in satellite attitude estimation and control. In the literature, gyroscope and at least two vector meaurements are used to estimate and control the...

Development of a radiation based heat model for satellite attitude determination

    , Article Aerospace Science and Technology ; Volume 82-83 , 2018 , Pages 479-486 ; 12709638 (ISSN) Labibian, A ; Pourtakdoust, S. H ; Alikhani, A ; Fourati, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Masson SAS  2018
    Abstract
This paper is focused on the development and verification of a heat attitude model (HAM) for satellite attitude determination. Within this context, the Sun and the Earth are considered as the main external sources of radiation that could effect the satellite surface temperature changes. Assuming that the satellite orbital position (navigational data) is known, the proposed HAM provides the satellite surface temperature with acceptable accuracy and also relates the net heat flux (NHF) of three orthogonal satellite surfaces to its attitude via the inertial to satellite transformation matrix. The proposed HAM simulation results are verified through comparison with commercial thermal analysis...

    Abstract
In this paper a new control strategy for adaptive attitude control of multivariable satellite system has been presented. The approach is based on radial basis function neural network (RBFNN). By using four reaction wheels and Modified Rodrigues Parameters (MRPs) for attitude representation, the attitude dynamic of satellite has been considered. The Lyapunov stability theory has been used to achieve a stable closed loop system. Also to enhance the robustness of the controller, the RBF neural network has been employed to estimate the model base terms in control law. The control objective is the plant to track a reference model. Simulation results illustrate the performance of the on-line...

Attitude Toward World Englishes Among Iranian English Language Learners

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mottaghi, Zahra (Author) ; Rezaei, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Khosravizadeh, Parvaneh (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
According to Yook and Lindemann (2012), attitudes play a significant role in motivation and in the quality and quantity of acquiring a specific language. Moreover, the worldwide spread of English demands a more rigorous focus being directed toward the attitudes of users of English in the group which Kachru (1997) has referred to as the Expanding Circle. Yet, scant attention has been devoted to the issue of World Englishes in Iran. In addition, a dearth of large-scale studies on attitudes toward different varieties of Englishes in Iran has led to deficient theoretical and methodological bases. To niche this gap, the current study tried to shed light on some dark sides of this subject by...

Analysis of gyro noise in non-linear attitude estimation using a single vector measurement

    , Article IET Control Theory and Applications ; Volume 6, Issue 14 , 2012 , Pages 2226-2234 ; 17518644 (ISSN) Firoozi, D ; Namvar, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    IET  2012
    Abstract
This study investigates the effect of noisy measurements of the angular rate in a non-linear attitude estimator for satellites. The attitude estimator uses measurement of a single attitude sensor such as Sun, Earth-horizon, star tracker or magnetometer together with a rate gyro, and guarantees exponential convergence of the attitude estimation error to zero under a no-noise condition. In view of a realistic situation where the presence of noise in gyro measurement is not negligible, this study presents stochastic and deterministic upper bounds for the attitude estimation error resulting from noisy angular rate measurement. A realistic simulation is presented to illustrate the results

Rigid body attitude control using a single vector measurement and gyro

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control ; Volume 57, Issue 5 , 2012 , Pages 1273-1279 ; 00189286 (ISSN) Khosravian, A ; Namvar, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Most existing methods for satellite attitude control assume that full knowledge of satellite attitude is available by algebraic manipulation of at least two vector measurements from attitude sensors such as Sun, Earth-horizon, Earth-magnetic or star tracker sensors. Kalman filtering is usually used when only one vector measurement is available, however, asymptotic stability of nonlinear and uncertain dynamics of satellite is not guaranteed in this case. This technical note presents a coupled nonlinear estimator-controller for satellite attitude determination and control by using a 3-axis gyro and a single vector measurement for a fully actuated satellite. We assume that the moment-of-inertia...

Design of Nonlinear Observer and Controller for Satellite Attitude Estimation and Control

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khosravian, Alireza (Author) ; Namvar, Mehrzad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The goal of the attitude determination is to determine the orientation of a satellite with respect to a reference frame. For this purpose, gyroscopes are used to measure the satellite’s angular velocity. Also, the attitude sensors such as magnetometers, Sun sensors, Earth sensors or star trackers are employed to collect vector measurements. The aim of the attitude control is to calculate the torque which is needed to be applied to the satellite such that its orientation and angular velocity converge to their desired values. It is usual to determine the attitude of satellite first and then use it in the attitude control algorithms. When multiple independent vector measurements are available,...

Attitude estimation and control based on modified unscented Kalman filter for gyro-less satellite with faulty sensors

    , Article Acta Astronautica ; Volume 191 , 2022 , Pages 134-147 ; 00945765 (ISSN) Pourtakdoust, S.H ; Mehrjardi, M. F ; Hajkarim, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
A modified unscented Kalman filter is presented to estimate the quaternion parameters as well as the angular velocities of a rigid gyro-less satellite under faulty sensor conditions. The task is carried out using the Sun sensor and magnetometers as attitude sensors with bounded noise and unknown fault(s). Following the presentation of the satellite attitude dynamics and filtering formulations, a new fault detection and isolation algorithm is proposed. The latter is based on a modified unscented Kalman filter structure for improved fault detection, sensor isolation, and attitude control (AC). A Backtracking Search Algorithm (BSA) is also used to design and optimize the PID controller gains,...

Experimental Attitude Determination Using Thermal Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Abolfazl (Author) ; Pourtakdoost, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The problem of attitude determination (AD) has always been a challenging issue for space missions that is of importance either independently or for attitude control purposes. The problem of AD is generally focused from two aspects: measurement mechanisms (sensoring) and determination algorithms. From the former point of view, there exists a variety of measuring systems such as the Sun sensors, magnetometers, gyroscopes, star and horizon sensors that have been separately or collaboratively utilized for AD. Integrative usage of sensors not only can bring about added advantages in terms of accuracy, but also provides for estimates of attitude during special times such as the Sun eclipse. The...
