Stability analysis and experimental validation of a control strategy for autonomous operation of distributed generation units

Abstract
This paper presents stability analysis of a distributed generation (DG) controller [1], in an islanded mode, based on the Mapping Theorem and the Zero Exclusion Condition, and validates the results based on a laboratory scale experimental setup. The DG unit is interfaced to the host system through a voltage-sourced converter (VSC). The control strategy regulates the load voltage at the desired value in the islanded mode, despite uncertainties in the load parameters. The frequency of the island is controlled in an open loop manner by an internal oscillator. The experimental results show that the controller provides robust voltage control for a wide range of load parameters, and even maintains...
Investigating the properties of optimal sensory and motor synergies in a nonlinear model of arm dynamics
, Article Proceedings of the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks, 14 June 2009 through 19 June 2009, Atlanta, GA ; 2009 , Pages 272-279 ; 9781424435531 (ISBN) ; Vahdat, S ; Vosoughi Vahdat, B ; International Neural Network Society; IEEE Computational Intelligence Society ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
The vertebrate nervous system produces a wide range of movements flexibly and efficiently, in spite of high complexity and nonlinearity of their motor system. The existence of building blocks in motor system known as synergies can be a convincing solution to overcome the computational complexity. In mathematical perspective, optimal feedback control as a theory of motor coordination provides a coherent framework that leads to optimal synergies. Alternatively, some experiments in vertebrates have shown the involvement of spinal motor primitives in movement execution. The goal of this study is first extracting optimal synergies in nonlinear dynamics case and then investigating their biological...
More details on analysis of fractional-order Van der Pol oscillator

Abstract
This paper is devoted to the analysis of fractional order Van der Pol system studied in the literature. Based on the existing theorems on the stability of incommensurate fractional order systems, we determine parametric range for which a fractional order Van der Pol system with a specific order can perform as an undamped oscillator. Numerical simulations are presented to support the given analytical results. These results also illuminate a main difference between oscillations in a fractional order Van der Pol oscillator and its integer order counterpart. We show that contrary to integer order case, trajectories in a fractional Van der Pol oscillator do not converge to a unique cycle. © 2009...
Molecular dynamics simulation and MM-PBSA calculations of sickle cell hemoglobin in dimer form with Val, Trp, or Phe at the lateral contact
, Article Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry ; Volume 23, Issue 9 , March , 2010 , Pages 866-877 ; 08943230 (ISSN) ; Akbarzadeh, H ; Parsafar, G. A ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
As the delay time and hence nuclei formation play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of sickle cell disease, MD simulation and molecular mechanics-Poisson-Boltzmann surface area (MM-PBSA) calculations have been performed on three systems of hemoglobin; namely dimer of hemoglobin with valine (Hb S), tryptophan (Hbβ6W), and phenylalanine (Hbβ6F) at β6 position. The structural changes due to these aromatic substitutions are investigated. It is shown that β subunits have significant impact on the differences between a dimer and other crystal structures. Transition from a dimer to polymer for Hb S system affects the donor molecule more than that of the acceptor. In the case of donor and...
