    Abstract
The heat transfer phenomenon in a vortex engine was investigated. A mixture of butane and propane was used as the fuel in which the mole fraction of butane and propane was 0.2 and 0.8, respectively. A series of tests were conducted in different conditions of oxidizer and fuel mass flow rates for a vortex engine. The tests were categorized into two groups to find the effects of the oxidizer mass flow rate on the flux of radiation heat transfer and convective cooling at a fixed equivalence ratio. The effects of the equivalence ratio on the heat transfer phenomena at a fixed oxidizer mass flow rate are also determined. The results revealed that the rate of radiation heat transfer to the chamber...

Fibre position effects on the operation of opto-pair fibre displacement sensors

    , Article Optics and Laser Technology ; Volume 43, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 814-819 ; 00303992 (ISSN) Jafari, R ; Golnabi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this article, two optical-fibre probes used in displacement measurements are reported. In one arrangement, two optical fibres with protective buffer jackets are placed together, while in the second arrangement, the protective buffer jackets are removed and the two fibres are placed with the claddings in contact, with a concomitant smaller centrecentre distance. As the core and cladding diameters are the same in both probes, the effect of the centrecentre distance on double-fibre designs can be investigated. The reflected output powers are recorded for the probes as a function of the axial distance from a reflective surface. A theoretical model is also implemented, which considers the...

Power modulation in axial and lateral fiber displacements in a fiber-to-fiber design

    Abstract
In this study power transmission modulation for different fibers in a fiber-to-fiber design using two different light sources is reported. A fiber-to-fiber arrangement is used in which the source light is directly coupled to the first fiber and the second fiber delivers the light to a power meter. Arrangements with three sets of different type fibers are tested in this study and output powers are monitored with the white lamp or red LED as illumination light sources. Using this arrangement the variations of the power as a result of axial (Z-direction) and lateral (X- and Y-direction) displacements of the second fiber are monitored. Theoretical models are also used to evaluate the power...
