    Abstract
Axial flux resolvers (AFRs) are used in motion control of electrical machines. In this paper, the effects of physical parameters on the accuracy of detected position are studied. The examined parameters are width of slot opening and slot width, number of poles, number of slots per pole and per phase, and skewing of rotor slots. An analytical model based on the winding function method is proposed for the first time in to estimate the error of position signal. The results of the analytical method are verified with 3-D time stepping finite-element method. Finally, the prototype of the studied AFR is constructed and tested. Good agreement between simulation and experimental results confirms the...

    Abstract
This paper proposes a design solution for static eccentricity (SE) in axial flux resolvers (AFRs). There are two definitions for SE in AFRs. The first approach is based on the definition of SE in conventional radial flux resolvers, wherein the rotor axis does not coincide with the stator bore, but the rotor rotates around its own shaft. In other words, it is different in the angular inclination of the rotor and stator axis. Thus, the air gap of the motor is not uniform. In the second approach, which is more common in AFRs, when SE occurs, air-gap length remains uniform. Rotor axis remains parallel with the stator axis, although it does not coincide with the stator bore. This means that there...

    Abstract
Accurate position estimation is an integral part of any motion control system. Besides, instantaneous position of poles plays an important role in electronic drive system of modern PM machines. Resolvers, due to their structure, are the most reliable position sensors in harsh environments. However, resolvers are not as accurate as optical encoders in normal conditions. To increase the accuracy of these sensors, various solutions are used, such as optimization in winding arrangement, rotor and stator contour, slot-pole combinations, and improvements in resolver-to-digital converter. In this paper, fractional slot concentrated winding is used in an axial flux resolver. By the aid of winding...

    Abstract
Among position sensors, resolvers are superior from reliability point of view. However, obtaining lower output voltage harmonics and simple manufacturing process is a challenge in the design and optimization of resolvers. In this paper, a metaheuristic optimization algorithm is used to minimize total harmonic distortion of the output signals, and consequently the estimated position error in concentrated coil wound field resolvers. Meanwhile, to minimize total coil numbers, manufacturing costs, and complexity of the winding process, modified objective function and constraints are proposed. In this way, a modified winding function method is employed for performance analysis of the axial flux...
