    Abstract
The focus of this study is the performance of the relaying network with incremental selective decode-and-forward (ISDF) protocol in non-selective slow Nakagami-m fading channels. To enhance bandwidth efficiency, when the direct transmission is not successful the relay is used to retransmit a clean copy of the source signal. The proposed protocol achieves a significant reduction in the power consumption and an improvement in performance compared to the fixed decode-and-forward (DF). The exact symbol error rate (SER) of M-PSK modulation for the ISDF protocol over general fading channels is derived. However, as the exact SER analysis is very complicated, we provide an approximated SER...

Wideband printed slot bowtie antenna using symmetric vias

    , Article Microwave and Optical Technology Letters ; Volume 58, Issue 6 , 2016 , Pages 1301-1304 ; 08952477 (ISSN) Mazaheri, M. H ; Amani, N ; Jafargholi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This letter presents a symmetrical slot-type bowtie antenna with widened impedance bandwidth and high efficiency. Two symmetric vias are exploited underneath each slot in order to increase the antenna bandwidth up to 84% with simultaneous preservation of high efficiency (>90%), and low cross-polarization (<-10 dB). The proposed antenna is fed with 50Ω ungrounded coplanar waveguide (CPW) with no need to balun insertion and tuning stub. The proposed antenna has low profile and simple structure in comparison with previous complex wideband bowtie antennas. The commercial CST Microwave Studio software is adopted for the simulations. The antenna is fabricated and measured, while good agreement is...

    Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive study on the Full-Rate and Linear-Receiver (FRLR) STBC proposed as a newly coding scheme with the low decoding complexity for a 2×2 MIMO system. It is shown that the FRLR code suffers from the lack of the non-vanishing determinant (NVD) property that is a key parameter in designing a full-rate STBC with a good performance in higher data rates, across QAM constellation. To overcome this drawback, we show that the existence of the NVD feature for the FRLR code depends on the type of the modulation. In particular, it is analytically proved that the FRLR code fulfills the NVD property across the PAM constellation but not for the QAM scheme. Simulation results...

Spectrum-usage-aware resource allocation and multicast routing in elastic optical networks

    Abstract
In this paper, dynamic resource allocation and multicast routing algorithms are proposed for elastic optical networks (EONs). The proposed algorithms find the shortest path trees by modeling either the amount of free spectrum in each link or the link length as the cost function of routing method. The proposed algorithms are simulated in the dynamic operation scenario over the so called US Backbone topology. Simulation results reveal that by considering the cost function of routing algorithm based on the available spectrum in each link will improve the blocking probability while reduce the spectrum efficiency. On the other hand, by considering link length as the cost function, the blocking...

Efficient optical resource allocation and QoS differentiation in optical burst switching networks utilizing hybrid WDM/OCDM

    , Article Journal of Lightwave Technology ; Volume 30, Issue 15 , 2012 , Pages 2427-2441 ; 07338724 (ISSN) Beyranvand, H ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a QoS differentiation framework is proposed for an optical burst switching (OBS) multiservice network. Furthermore, hybrid wavelength division multiplexing and optical code division multiplexing (WDM/OCDM) scheme is used to mitigate the blocking probability of OBS networks. In our study, the measurement criteria of QoS are the blocking probability, OBS network delay, transmission rate, and OCDM probability of error. In order to increase the bandwidth efficiency and control the multiplexing interference effect of OCDM, an advanced optical resource allocation strategy is introduced. The proposed strategy is also compared with a conventional strategy based on random allocation....
