As the m-banking was received very well, it has embarked upon supply of various services based on different systems and with the aid of various services such as the Short Messaging Service (SMS). However, in spite of its advantages, m-banking is facing some challenges as well. One of these challenges is the issue of security of this system. This paper presents a method for increasing security of the information requested by users with the use of steganography method. In this method, instead of direct sending of the information, it is hidden in a picture...

Estimation of Bank Loan Interest Rate and Determining its Correlated Factors: A Case Study of Listed Companies in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nateghi, Morteza (Author) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mahmoodzadeh, Amineh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Bank loans are one of the main sources of financing for enterprises and the most important source of financing for large enterprises in Iran. Uncertainty about future conditions and asymmetric information between the bank and the firm puts the provision of loans at risk. According to the principle of proportionality of risk and return, the interest rate of bank facilities should be proportional to the risk that the bank incurs in return for granting the loan. In general, the interest rate of bank loans can be affected by three types of risks: the credit risk of the applicant firm, the risk of the lender bank and the macroeconomic environment risk. In this study, we try to estimate the...

The Real Effect of Banks’ Money Creation Ability in a New Keynesian Framework

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Darzi Larijani, Samyar (Author) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mahmoodzadeh, Amineh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In much of the financial economics literature, banks are modeled as financial intermediaries that transfer household deposits to loan applicants. In these models, deposits are obtained from the accumulation of real amounts (household savings). In addition to this, another approach describes banks not as intermediaries of loanable funds, but as money-creators who do not need to accumulate deposit resources to lend. In this study, by modeling the money-creation behavior of the banking network, we try to answer the question that if the bank can create credit and purchasing power for the firm based on its future income, how will the general variables of the economy, including consumption and...

    Abstract
The problem of designing optimum filter banks for different applications is a popular research subject. It has also been shown that principal component filter banks (PCFB) are the optimum filter bank for many application. Existing methods to design FIR PCFBs are based on designing energy compaction filters. In this work we concentrate on designing FIR PCFB with the same frequency response as the ideal one. The presented approach results in filter banks with a very good approximation of ideal PCFB, as verified by simulations. © 2005 IEEE

The International Sanctions’ Impact on Lending Behaviour of Iranian Banks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ekbatani, Sepehr (Author) ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the impact of imposed financial sanctions on Iranian banks is being estimated using micro-level data. Using a panel regression while controlling on some variables and other shocks, we find a decline in both level and slope of granted loans by sanctioned banks. Moreover, we examine the varying characteristics of banks and how they respond to sanctions. Granted loans by big banks are found to decline drastically
and from the prospective of ownership, private banks are also more vulnerable toward sanctions. At last, we seek for balance sheet channels for sanction transmission, and in almost every case the existence of such channel is supported which means, the impact of...

Credit Creation and Fractional Reserve Constraint

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Adibnia, Ali (Author) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mahmoudzadeh, Amineh (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In the banking and macro-financial literature، banks are modeled as financial intermediaries who give loans to the borrowers from their deposits. In these models، deposits are created from the accumulation of real goods. Besides this view، which is used more in the academic environment، others who are most practical، describe banks not intermediaries، but credit creator which do not need deposits to pay loans. In this research، we use credit creation concept in a Neoclassic environment that the central bank’s monetary policy is fractional reserve to answer this question that if banks could create credit for firms based on its future income، while firms have CIA constraints، how do economic...

Financial Contagion ,Interbank Market, and Central Bank Policy

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rashidi Ravari, Pooya (Author) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mahmoodzadeh, Amineh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Financial distress can propagate through different channels such as bank run, deposit interbank market, networks and asset prices. In this paper, with the assumption of deposit insurance, no linkages between banks, no deposit interbank market and fixed asset prices, we show that asset-side shocks might propagate through both loan interbank market and deposit market. However, when there is aggregate liquidity surplus in the banking system, loan interbank market results in the first best allocation. In contrast, aggregate liquidity shortage does not result in optimum allocation. In the presence of deposit and loan interbank market, not only shocks propagate but also they are magnified with the...

Some of these banks create...

Moral Hazard in New Models of Islamic Banking

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bolboli Rami, Hossein (Author) ; Nilli, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This paper by using the basic Principal-Agent model, investigate the possibility of moral hazard in relation of the bank-borrower, meaning the deviation of the granted facility - for the three proposed models in the Islamic Banking (interest free). These models include the use of only authorized exchange contracts, the use of partnership contracts and the combined use of authorized exchange contracts and partnership. This study, by accepting the Mirakhor (2011) model as the optimal case, make sure that in Islamic society, by establishing assumptions such as honesty, the probability of occurrence of moral hazard is low; Hence, moral hazard is not an inherent problem of the Islamic banking...

Blood inventory management in hospitals: considering supply and demand uncertainty and blood transshipment possibility

    , Article Operations Research for Health Care ; Volume 15 , 2017 , Pages 43-56 ; 22116923 (ISSN) Najafi, M ; Ahmadi, A ; Zolfagharinia, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Despite significant advancements in medicine, human blood is still a scarce resource. Only humans produce it, and there is currently no other product or alternative chemical process that can be used to generate blood. For this reason, blood is a vital commodity in healthcare systems. Since blood is also a perishable product, its inventory management is difficult. The challenge is in holding enough stock to ensure a high level of supply while keeping losses from expiration at a minimum. This research will investigate blood inventory management in a hospital, and develop a mathematical model to manage blood ordering and issuing. This study will account for the fact that blood demand and supply...
