    Localization length-doping dependence in GdBa2Cu3-xCrxO7-δ

    , Article Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications ; Volume 466, Issue 1-2 , 2007 , Pages 157-162 ; 09214534 (ISSN) Bazargan, S ; Javanmard, H ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
The bulk samples of GdBa2Cu3-xCrxO7-δ with x = 0-0.3 have been prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method. Structural phases were determined by powder X-ray diffraction. The XRD and the unit cell parameters were obtained through Rietveld refinement of the XRD data. By increasing the doping, the c parameter decreases and the a parameter increases, and by the nearly fixed b parameter, the orthorhombic phase approaches to the tetragonal phase. The resistivity measurements show a strong effect of doping on suppression of Tc. At the first doping step of x = 0.05, Tc decreases abruptly to 57 K, but by increasing the doping, this rate slows down and becomes nearly linear for higher...

Low temperature synthesis of carbonate-free barium titanate nanoscale crystals: Toward a generalized strategy of titanate-based perovskite nanocrystals synthesis

    , Article Journal of the American Ceramic Society ; Vol. 97, issue. 7 , 2014 , pp. 2027-2031 Ashiri, R ; Moghtada, A ; Shahrouzianfar, A ; Ajami, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Synthesis temperature and purity of perovskite materials are key challenges facing the scientific community. This work aims to address these challenges by developing an innovative low temperature synthesis pathway for preparation of carbonate-free perovskite nanocrystals. The method is based on an ultrasound-Assisted wet chemical processing method. Nanocrystals are characterized and observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy techniques. XRD studies show that very fine BaTiO3 nanocrystals (<11 nm) free from any by-products such as BaTi2O5 and BaCO3 are synthesized at 50°C. Moreover, the method developed...

Effect of simultaneous chemical substitution of A and B sites on the electronic structure of BiFeO3 films grown on BaTiO 3/SiO2/Si substrate

    , Article Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Electronics ; Volume 24, Issue 6 , 2013 , Pages 2128-2134 ; 09574522 (ISSN) Ahadi, K ; Nemati, A ; Mahdavi, S. M ; Vaezi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Electrical properties and electronic structure of Bi1-xCa xFe1-yMnyO3-δ grown by pulsed-laser deposition on BaTiO3/SiO2/Si substrate were investigated. Results showed that Ca has drastic effect on symmetry of crystal and electrical poperties of BiFeO3. On the other hand, Mn revealed to have more radical effect on optical properties and energy gap of the compound. XPS results represented that although Ca tend to decrease Fe valence state, Mn tends to stabilize it at 3+ (at least in this concentrations). UV-visible study yielded bandgap of 2.51-2.81 eV (at 300 K) for different concentrations of Ca and Mn. UV-visible spectra also revealed sub-bandgap defect transitions at 2.2 and 2.4 eV....

    , Article Materials Letters ; Volume 72 , April , 2012 , Pages 107-109 ; 0167577X (ISSN) Ahadi, K ; Mahdavi, S. M ; Nemati, A ; Tabesh, M ; Ranjbar, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The morphological characteristics and electronic structure of the BaTiO 3 films grown by pulsed-laser deposition technique have been investigated. AFM and FE-SEM images reveal columnar growth characteristic of these films. Utilizing spectrophotometer, optical band gap of the films were reckoned to be about 3.76 eV. Both dα/dE and PL vs. E plots reveal numerous luminance states in the gap. Despite the presence of many luminance faults in the gap, cations manage to preserve their electronic states

Synthesis and characterization of YBaCu2O5-δ compound

    , Article Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications ; Volume 548 , 15 May , 2018 , Pages 112-115 ; 09214534 (ISSN) Ehsandoust, A ; Sandoghchi, M ; Mokhtari, P ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
YBaCu2O5 compound as one of the possible microstructures of Y3Ba5Cu8O19 has been synthesized. The X-ray diffraction analysis of this compound indicates that its formation is accompanied with the formation of YBa2Cu3O7-δ. The observed superconductivity around ∼92 K supports this. So, it seems that YBa2Cu3O7-δ is responsible for the observed superconductivity in YBaCu2O5, and this phase is not an independent superconducting phase. Consequently, the overall effect of the YBaCu2O5 formation during the Y3Ba5Cu8O19 fabrication process could be a reduction in Tc. © 2018 Elsevier B.V

Pressure dependence of effective Coulomb interaction parameters in BaFe2As2 by first-principle calculation

    , Article Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications ; Volume 548 , 15 May , 2018 , Pages 61-64 ; 09214534 (ISSN) Aghajani, M ; Hadipour, H ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
Pressure dependence of the onsite Coulomb interactions of the BaFe2As2 has been studied by employing the constrained random phase approximation within first-principle calculations. Analyzing total and projected density of states, a pseudogap is found for dxy band at the energy roughly 0.25 eV higher than the Fermi level. Also, by applying pressure the spectral weight of the dxy orbital vanishes while other orbitals remain metallic. The different screening channels, as discussed in four different models, affect significantly on the Hubbard U while the Hund J remains almost unchanged. The average onsite bare and partially and fully screened Coulomb interactions increase with different rates...

The effect of particle size on the structural, magnetic and electrical properties of La0.9Ba0.1MNO3 manganite samples

    Abstract
In this work, the magnetic and transport properties of micro and nanometer-sized samples of La0.9Ba0.1MnO3 manganite have been studied. The temperature variation of ac susceptibility of the nanometer-sized sample shows one transition at high temperature (265 K). On the contrary, the ac susceptibility of the micrometer-sized sample shows two transitions with a high-temperature transition occurring at 240 K and low-temperature transition around 100 K. The high-temperature transition corresponds to the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic (PM–FM) transition (Tc) and is independent of frequency, while the low-temperature transition is frequency-dependent and shifts toward high temperatures by increasing...

Doping of Sm3Ba5Cu8O19 compound with praseodymium

    , Article Journal of Low Temperature Physics ; Volume 198, Issue 5-6 , 2020 , Pages 252-268 Sandoghchi, M ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2020
    Abstract
An investigation has been carried out on the effects of praseodymium doping in Sm3−xPrxBa5Cu8O19 for different values of x. Results indicate that the transition temperature reduces almost linearly with x. Based on the Abrikosov–Gor’kov pair-breaking theory, it has been concluded that the exchange interaction constant is large (Jex = 110 meV) in the Sm3Ba5Cu8O19 compound. In addition, it seems that the hybridization of Pr4f states with O2p–Cu3d states has an important role in the depression of transition temperature of Sm3−xPrxBa5Cu8O19 for the Pr content < 10%. However, for the higher values of Pr, the two observed plateaus at the transition temperatures of ~ 60 K and ~ 17 K, respectively,...

    Abstract
Direct marketing identifies customers who buy, more probable, a specific product to reduce the cost and increase the response rate of a marketing campaign. The advancement of technology in the current era makes the data collection process easy. Hence, a large number of customer data can be stored in companies where they can be employed to solve the direct marketing problem. In this paper, a novel Bayesian method titled correlation-augment naïve Bayes (CAN) is proposed to improve the conventional naïve Bayes (NB) classifier. The performance of the proposed method in terms of the response rate is evaluated and compared to several well-known Bayesian networks and other well-known classifiers...

    Abstract
Naive Bayes (NB) classifier ease of use along with its remarkable performance has led many researchers to extend the scope of its applications to real-world domains by relaxing the conditional independence assumption of features given the information about the class variable. However, fulfilling this objective, most of the generalizations, cut their own way through compromising the model's simplicity, make more complex classifiers with a substantial deviation from the original one. Multi Independent Latent Component Naive Bayes Classifier (MILC-NB) leverages a set of latent variables to preserve the overall structure of naive Bayes classifier while rectifying its major restriction. Crack-free nanostructured BaTiO3 thin films prepared by sol-gel dip-coating technique

    , Article Ceramics International ; Vol. 40, issue. 6 , 2014 , pp. 8613-8619 Ashiri, R ; Nemati, A ; Sasani Ghamsari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this report, crack-free nanostructured barium titanate thin films are prepared by a sol-gel processing method. Glacial acetic acid, barium acetate, titanium tetraisopropyl alkoxide, 2-propanol and deionized water are used as precursors for preparing stable precursor solution. Then very thin films (thickness=26 nm) are deposited on fused silica substrates. In order to prepare crack-free thin films of BaTiO3, much attention is given to solvent evaporation process and a controlled pre-drying process is developed. It is found that the control of the process, especially in the initial stage of drying process is crucial and important for preparation of the crack-free ultrathin nanostructured...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity ; Volume 21, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 3458-3464 ; 10518223 (ISSN) Hekmati, A ; Vakilian, M ; Fardmanesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Distributed power generation and the ever-growing load demand have caused fault current levels to exceed the nominal rating of the power system devices, and fault current limiters are more needed. Superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) forms an important category of current limiters. In this paper, a novel flux-based model for the inductive shield-type high-temperature SFCL is developed based on the Bean model. This model is employed to simulate the SFCL performance in a sample circuit. Utilizing the model, the signal characterization of the limited current is determined. A prototype laboratory scale SFCL has been fabricated with superconducting rings. Yttrium barium copper oxide...

    Abstract
Different compositions of TiO2–BaTiO3 nanocomposites are synthesized with various weight ratios for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications. TiO2 and BaTiO3 nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized by sol-gel and solvothermal methods, respectively and are employed as the photoanode electrodes. BaTiO3 NPs have pure cubic perovskite crystal structure with an average size of 20-40 nm, while TiO2 NPs show pure anatase phase with 15-30 nm size. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) enhancement of the cells is first attained by controlling the thickness of the films for light harvesting improvement. The fabricated DSSC composed of pure BaTiO3 NPs with an optimal thickness of 25 μm shows...

Mechanical and chemical pressure effects on the AeFe 2 As 2 (Ae = Ba, Sr, Ca) compounds: Density functional theory

    Abstract
We have studied the pressure-induced structural, magnetic and electronic properties of AeFe 2 As 2 (Ae = Ba, Sr, Ca) compounds in the framework of density functional theory within the GGA-PBE method. The effects of chemical pressure generated by Sr and Ca substitutions in BaFe 2 As 2 have been investigated. We have found a magnetic transition at the same primitive unit cell volume, around 81 Å 3 for the (Ba⧹Ca)Fe 2 As 2 compounds, which predicts a magnetic transition pressure of 12 GPa for SrFe 2 As 2 . The structural parameters of FeAs 4 tetrahedra are obtained after ionic relaxation and compared with the existing experimental results. The change of these internal parameters is ascribed to...

    Abstract
A practical coplanar Josephson junction left-handed transmission line based on a step-edge junction technique is proposed in high-temperature superconductor technology and analyzed by electromagnetic simulations. The layout is designed for monolayer Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide thin film fabrication process. The propagation stopbands are tunable by controlling bias currents of Josephson junction arrays acting as parallel inductors for unit cells of the transmission line. Unlike the reported designs, each unit cell of our left-handed transmission line is independently biasable due to dc isolation of the unit cells along the transmission line. Being individually biasable is practically...
